Recording and Playback Dataflow
Shown in this diagram is the dataflowduring a typical recording session. ThePentek Transceiver Board contains a 2-chan-nel 200 MHz A/D for digitizing two inputanalog channels. The digitized outputs aredownconverted by the two DDCs (DigitalDownconverters) and moved on to the PCsystem memory via the PCI Express inter-
face. Both the DDCs and the PCIe interfaceare implemented in the board’s FPGA.Data then moves from the system memoryto the Recording System RAID Controllerand is then recorded to disk via the SATAinterface. DMA controllers conduct all datatransfers, bypasssing the CPU for guaranteedreal-time operation.
Recording Dataflow
Playback Dataflow During a playback session, data storedon disk moves through the SATA interfaceof the Playback System RAID Controller. From there, data is passed to the PC systemmemory through the PCIe interface andthen to the Pentek Transceiver board throughits PCIe interface, all via hardware DMAcontrollers for real-time operation.
This board also contains DUCs (DigitalUpconverters) which upconvert the data tothe original IF frequency bands. Two 800 MHzD/As convert the data to analog form andprovide signals that are identical to theanalog signals that were originally recorded.
These can be further analyzed with anyWindows-compatible analysis software.

The user can easily move between screens to setconfiguration parameters, control and monitor a recording, playback a recorded signal and monitor board temperature and volt-age levels. The signal viewer, integrated into the recording GUI,allows the user to monitor real-time signals or signals recordedon disk.
➤ built to survive shock and vibration.Stress to the motherboard and CPU heatsinkis mitigated by multipe attachment pointsto stabilize the PCB. All fasteners and connec-tors are retained with locking mechanismsand shock-isolated drive bays.
High-speed, high-volume, thermally-controlled fans offer maximum airflow andare designed for long life. Additionally, extended temperature operation is possiblewith an optional high-temperature CPU.
Flexible ArchitectureThe RTR 2746 is configured in a 4U 19"
rack-mountable chassis. Systems are scalableto accommodate multiple chassis, in order toincrease channel counts and aggregate datarates. All recorder chassis are connected viaEthernet and can be controlled from a singleGUI either locally or from a remote PC.
Multiple RAID levels, including 0, 1, 5,6, 10 and 50, provide a choice for the requiredlevel of redundancy. Up to 48 removableSATA SSD drives are available, allowingup to 24 terabytes of real-time data storagespace in a single 4U chassis.
