THE MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known

that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought

thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins,

my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful

and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,

but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

2 ST. BARNABAS CATHOLIC CHURCH

PENTECOST SUNDAY

Dear Parishioners:

We are in the process of reopening the church, thanks be to God! Thank you as well for understanding that this process is taking some time and that we are scheduling on a week-to-week basis. We pray that we will continue

to make progress as quickly as circumstances allow and with no setbacks.

Several notes:

1. We are scheduling Masses and confessions on a week by week basis as we reopen. While there may be the possibility of Mass indoors in the near future we will continue to be prepared to offer Mass outdoors. Confessions will be offered outdoors for some time to come as our indoor confessionals are simply too small for current conditions. For outdoor Masses you should bring a lawn chair, something to kneel on, and an FM radio set to 98.9FM. Cars may park in the back of the parking lot (nearest Hill Valley Drive). Please leave room close to the church for lawn chair seating. Those planning to sit on lawn chairs should park behind the school.

2. Out of concern for safety our Masses will be simple with the fewest number of people possible near the altar and with singing to be kept to a minimum.

3. The church building may be used for funerals, weddings, and memorial Masses with seating not to exceed state and county limits.

4. We are still working out details on the materials and methods to clean properly the inside of the church after larger groups are present. This will permit us to open the church safely much more frequently, for example when we have several Masses back-to-back on a Sunday morning.

5. When on church grounds please be sure to maintain proper social distancing and avoid grouping together. These days the wearing of a mask when in public is considered proper etiquette. Etiquette is not primarily about how one feels about one’s self, but rather about how one helps another person to feel more comfortable in a social setting.

6. At Holy Communion let us take our time, maintain social distancing, and allow the minister to place the sacred host either on your outstretched tongue (without leaning forward) or into the palm of your flat and steady hands (without grabbing). Thus will the priest or minister be able to distribute Holy Communion without touching anything but the sacred host.

7. Archbishop Thompsons and the other bishops of our state have dispensed all Catholics from their Sunday obligation to attend Mass through August 15, 2020.

• Each person must decide for themselves whether they are ready to return to church.

• If you tested positive for COVID-19 or exhibit any symptoms please stay home.

• If you are sick or have a pre-existing condition or health factors that require you to take special care of your health please stay home or in your vehicle.

8. Mass from St Barnabas will continue to be made available on the parish website (www.stbindy.org)

9. Please sign up for e-mail messages on our website or check it frequently for up-to-date information about our schedule.

10. The Adoration Chapel will reopen in due time. We await the permission of the archbishop before reopening the Adoration Chapel. We will have a time for Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursday evenings.

11. Provisions are being made for Holy Communion to be brought to our beloved sick and shut-in parishioners. Please check the website for up-to-date information as we want to be very careful to do this in a safe manner.

12. Children who have prepared will make their First Holy Communion at our regularly scheduled Masses. Parents should be sure not to delay bringing their children to receive this most august sacrament.

13. The St Barnabas School Class of 2020 will be together for Holy Mass and graduation exercises on Wednesday evening June 3. Congratulations to these fine graduates and all who graduated grade school, high school or college this Spring under these unforeseen conditions. May God bless all of your future endeavors.

Let us continue to pray for one another and be patient with one another during these days when we are so eager to get all of this behind us. May God bless you always.

God bless,

Fr Mahan

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

A simple thank you is inadequate to express the deep appreciation for all of the prayers, cards, meals, gifts, and support given to me and my family during my battle with the COVID-19 virus. It was truly a blessing to know that my family was being held in the palm of God’s hand while I was in the hospital. I am certain that I am here today because of your intercession and the care I received at St Francis Hospital.

The pillars of St Barnabas (Hospitality-Prayer-Formation-Service) became more than words for me and my family and we are thankful to ALL. We were and are truly thankful that God put our family in a such a Holy and Blessed community, St Barnabas.

Outreach MinistrySherry Meyer is a lay missionary from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis who has been working in Arua Diocese of northern Uganda for over 28 years. She grew up on the southside of Indianapolis, taught at Roncalli and was principal at St. Roch For the past 18 years she has worked to established a Catholic radio station for the diocese which has now been broadcasting 15 years in English as well as several tribal languages on three (soon to be four) frequencies.

St. Barnabas parish has supported Sherry for many years through the Outreach Ministry. Each time you share your treasure with the parish, the parish shares a small part of that with ministries such as Sherry’s in Uganda. Sherry is working to develop a new site for the 4th radio location. This new site does not have a water connection and she has asked us to assist in getting them hooked up with water.

Because of your generosity to the parish we are able to grant this request. Through the radio station they are able to share the Good News of the Gospel with another area of Uganda. THANK YOU for your commitment to stewardship.

The Outreach Ministry team meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. New members are always welcome. Contact Connie Merkel at [email protected] for more information.

To learn more about Sherry and her ministry find her on facebook at Sherry Meyer.
