Location • The penobscot indians lived in what today

is Maine, U.S.A• They lived along the penobscot River.

Spring• In spring:• They planted crops such as: squash, corn,

bean and other vegtables.

• Made birch barkcanoes and different tools.

Summer

• They traveled down the river to the seashore.

• Men fished• Wemen and children helped look for other

animals: crabs, oysters, and clams.• They also gathered fruits: cherries,

berries, and wild grapes.

Fall and Winter• Hunted wild animals: deer, elk, bear,

caribou.• In winter they went back to their villages.• Used thick clothes out of animal skin to

protect from the cold weather.

Penobscot Live Was Taken Away

The Europeans settled in the new world they:

• Took the Penobscot culture away• They where made slaves, there for their

freedom was also taken away.• Reduced the population .• Entered Penobscot into the war.

Europeans Settling in the New World

• The Penobscot Land was taken away

• All their material where stolen, letting the indians with no economic resources

• Families of the Penobscot where separated

• Got new sicknesses brought by Europeans.

Samuel de Champlain-First European (French) explorer to arrive to the Penobscot land in 1604.-Never settled in the Penobscot land; he just came to trade with them.-Missionaries came with him to teach catholic religion, and the Penobscot beliefs and rituals were partly changed.

Allies- Champlain helped the

Penobscot to resist the English attacks.

- Champlain started a great alliance between France and the Penobscot.

The Penobscot Winning The War- The English tried to force the Penobscot out of

their home in the 1600’s.- Bashaba, who was the Penobscot leader

resisted the English attacks for twenty-seven years with Champlain’s help.

The English Won The War- In 1682 Bashaba was killed by the English.

- Since 1682 everything was failure for the Penobscot.

- In 1697 the Penobscot surrender.

European and Penobscot Interaction

For the Penobscot:• New way of living. They

became passed form Native Americans to just normal citizens.

• They had to make the obligatory change of changing and adapting to a new culture.

• Penobscot population was reduced to almost cero.

European and Penobscot Interaction

For the Europeans:• Earned a lot of lands, because they stole

them to the Penobscot.• Goods where stolen from the Penobscot.• They earned lot of knowledge from this

tribe.

The Penobscot, are sons of God which their soul was killed by the cruel Europeans. More than 10,000 brave Penobscot died in combat defending their beautiful land and community.
