An Open Letter To Lance MaloneBy BRENT KENTON JORDAN

Penny Press Contributing Editor

Editor’s Note: Brent Kenton Jordan is the author of a book, Stripped, detailing his real life experience as a bouncer at the very Las Vegas topless club in the center of the G-Sting investigation, Cheetahs. This is what he has to say to former Clark County Commissioner Lance Malone. Malone is currently being tried on related charges in San Diego. For transcripts and wiretaps go to www.LasVegasCrooks.com.

Lance:You no doubt remember me. I was the Cheetahs bouncer with the shaved head who avoided you at all

costs and rolled his eyes at your inane attempts to impress twenty-year-old strippers with your lies about your importance to the club.

The truth you failed to realize while you were leaning on that beer bar, was that your pretty features and perfect hair were no match for the BS detector inherent in every successful topless entertainer.

I am reminded of your lies then, by the way your lawyer is suggesting in your defense that you didn’t really bribe anybody, while you are being tried now as a defendant in the first Operation G-sting trial.

Lance, it’s time you had a reality check: You were a bag man. Your sole purpose, your entire job description for Cheetahs (for which

you received a lot of money), was to shuttle cash from your boss, Mike Galardi, to whichever politician had their hand out at the time.

Basically, that’s it. You identified which politicians were the greediest, or most corrupt, and

you scurried back to Galardi with the information, and the dollar amount it would take to buy a vote.

This is not to say you didn’t have an effect on Cheetahs. You did –– a horrific effect. Through your inept attempts at “lobbying” (or whatever term you chose that helps you sleep at night), you helped facilitate the downfall of a multimillion dollar topless club empire.

You helped turn a local business man into a mob boss, and you prompted the FBI to employ the Patriot Act against your employer—the first and only time the all-powerful anti terrorist tool has been used against an American citizen suspected of white collar crime.

This is not to say Mike Galardi is not at least equally responsible for the fate that has befallen him. He is.

He, by his own admission, was engaged in illegal activities –– bribing public officials.

Galardi made many, many mistakes, and now he at least has stepped up to take his licks for those mistakes.

But I have to tell you, Lance, I believe Mike’s biggest mistake was you. He trusted you, and you led him down a path from which he will never emerge.

Now, your lawyer claims you didn’t know you were bribing politicians with the money Galardi was giving you for that purpose.

You dispute his claim that he gave you $10,000 dollars –– cash –– to pass along to the insatiable politicians with whom you had cultivated your illicit relationships.

You seek to discredit your former boss, intimating he is a liar. If I did not find that so pathetically, revoltingly ironic, it would be hys-

terical. If you did not pass on that money, then you were not performing the job

you were being paid to perform. What other purpose could you have possibly served for Cheetahs

Topless Club? You know nothing about the business. You are a former cop and a failed politician. You were hired for your knowledge of how to accept a bribe, and how to

offer one. Other than that, as far as the club was concerned, you were use-less. As it turns out, the fact that you are now on trial proves that ultimately, useless would have been the very best thing you could have been.

Lest you think I have nothing but criticisms for you Lance, take heart. I do give you one bit of respect and credit, and it is a large one: Your cowardice and inability to stand up and take responsibility for your

actions seemed to trigger your self-preservation instinct, and you hired the best criminal defense attorney money can buy. If there is any chance at all of you sliming your way out of your dirty deeds, the legendary Dominic Gentile will show you the way.

However, knowing what I do of you, and having had to listen to Mike Galardi lament your incompetence and impotence (indeed your existence) over the years, I will say this: If Mr. Gentile accomplishes the seemingly impossible, and finds a way to save you, he deserves his own showroom at the Mirage, for he has just demonstrated the greatest magic trick ever witnessed by man.

The Communist Party controls China. Those Communists are not America’s friends. Never, never forget those two facts. Never.

Internally, China’s ruling

Politburo Standing Committee (PSC) consists of nine men, all of who are highly educated engineers. Each is a specialist in either domes-tic or military development. All are hardened people who think system-atically. For almost a decade, the PSC has sought out foreign inves-tors that could bring China the best technologies in the world, even as that government sends tens of thou-sands of its brightest people abroad

to acquire the best educations that America and Europe can provide. Most of these people return to China where they are a nucleus of tal-ent that is educating more Chinese. Thus, China is already producing five times more engineers and scien-tists that America and this ratio will increase in the years ahead.

As part of this learning process, the Chinese have allowed foreign companies to locate in China, where they can use cheap labor to produce goods they can ship into the U.S. market. For most of these com-panies, the Chinese required half ownership in the enterprise and in all cases full access to the technology.

The Clinton Administration accelerated this process, allowing U.S. companies to sell or give the Chinese some of America’s most advanced technology in exchange for access to China’s markets.

The Bush Administration, by cutting taxes so sharply and running

such large federal budget deficits, created a situation where the Chinese could use the dollars earned from their U.S. trade surpluses to buy U.S. Treasury instruments. Today, China holds more than $650 billion of U.S. federal government debt and will acquire another $100 billion by the end of 2005. In sum, China is one of America’s principal bank-ers. Unless President Bush wishes to raise taxes, he must assure that China continues to finance a big part of the U.S. federal deficit. The President’s no new tax pledge gives the Chinese a powerful lever over his economic policies..

One reason China built up such a large dollar reserve is to be able to defend itself against any foreign attempts to manipulate its currency. Engineers think that way. Today, China’s reserve level is more than sufficient to withstand such an attack.

With its currency reserves in

place, and now possessing the best U.S. manufacturing technologies, the PSC is ready to take their nation to the next phase of development. China is now buying the sources of its raw materials and the distribution networks for the goods that it sells. China will soon be able to avoid the global mineral cartels, and sell its goods through its own distribution network. The Chinese purchase of IBM’s personal computer division and Maytag are examples of China buying both brand names and global distribution networks. Unocal is an example of China taking control of a key raw material. Soon China will not be dependent on the global oil cartel, or copper cartel, or cotton, or tin, or steel, or anything else.

China is using its stash of cash to shortcut what would otherwise take decades to accomplish.

The Governments of Japan and Europe, of course, will never permit

China Buying American...the sale of significant corporations, such as Unocal, to foreign governments. But the U.S. Government will. This past week we saw a collective gasp in Washington after the Chinese announced their bid to buy Unocal.

Despite that outburst, the Unocal deal will be concluded, as well as the sales of dozens of other U.S. companies. It will happen for several rea-sons.

First, President Bush is a radical free trader. To him and his Administration, this sale is little more than globalization in action. U.S. companies can buy firms in other nations, why cannot the Chinese do the same here is their reasoning. They never quite make the connection that the buyer in this case is the Chinese Government or that the Chinese may be motivated by something other than profits.

Second, the editorial boards of the three major newspapers that shape elite opinion in Washington will support the deal. Today, extremist, free traders are writing the editorials of the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and The New York Times. Despite the clear failure of NAFTA, these same papers are calling for the passage of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) and then its expansion to cover all of the Americas. These editorialists seem immune to experience, preferring theory to reality.

The Journal is already outspoken in its support for this deal. The Times and Post will follow, giving their own caveats, but ultimately saying the U.S. should do nothing to stop the transaction.

Third, the major electronic media will publicize the story, but editorially support the outcome. The reason is simple: these enterprises continuously curry favor with the Chinese Government because they have other enter-prises at stake. Rupert Murdock’s Fox Network is only part of a global complex that does massive business in China. Murdock changed his citi-zenship from Australian to U.S., almost two decades ago so that he could qualify to buy American television and radio stations. His loyalty to the U.S. is just about as deep as it was to Australia. His priorities are political power and profits.

NBC is owned by General Electric, which has major investments in China. Do not expect NBC to put profits behind the interests of the United States.

CBS no longer matters. Time/Warner, and its CNN, are just transnation-al organizations trying to wiggle their way into the Chinese market. No real opposition or hard-hitting criticism will come from them. ABC is owned by Disney, which sees China as a major expansion market.

Fourth, Alan Greenspan, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, remains

the hard-core internationalist, free trader and corporate enabler that he always has been. Soon after the Unocal deal was announced, he quickly warned that it would be harmful to the United States if any action were taken to interfere with the forces of the market. He, too, seems to have overlooked that this is a foreign government that has often expressed hostility to the United States. He never seems to have con-sidered that the new Chinese owners might give precedence to the needs of China rather than merely seek a higher return on their investments. Today, American economists seem to think like that. I think most have been separated from reality far too long and need a little time in private life, unprotected by lifetime tenured

pay and benefits in academe.Fifth, U.S. investment banks

stand to make billions of dollars in fees by having sell U.S. corpora-tions and distribution networks to the Chinese. Goldman Sachs, which is 20 percent owned by Japanese interests, is handling the Unocal sale. Morgan and dozens of other lesser investment firms have offices in China. Most would sell the Washington monument if they could earn a buck.

Sixth, few economists will oppose this deal. Only a handful has the courage to risk being labeled a protectionist. Most will sneer that we went into a panic two decades ago when the Japanese went on a spending spree. They will point out that the Japanese got burned when they bought Rockefeller Center and

some high priced golf courses. Yes, Japan has its share of high-flying Donald Trumps. They were fools and lost money.

But most Japanese investments were strategic. Japan’s compa-nies took over America’s advanced manufacturing industries – machine tools, semiconductor manufactur-ing equipment, printing presses, and textile machinery, among dozens of other industries. Try to buy an American-made robot. Today’s economists also ignore that Japan had a $160 billion trade surplus last year, the highest of any in the world. Despite the scoffing of U.S. economists, the Japanese are not stupid business people. Neither are the Chinese.

Seventh, most corporate CEOs are quite willing, for the right price, to sell their companies to the Chinese or anyone else. Most of those executives have no concern, no loyalty, and no sustaining interest in the welfare of this nation. They quickly inform anyone they run “global corporations” with ties to no nation. The fact that their com-panies were founded in the United States, are located in the U.S. and were often subsidized by American taxpayers means nothing. The two focal points for these people are how much will their stockholders get and how much will they get personally reap once the deal closes. And the order in which I put those priorities is probably inverted.

Finally, Congress will not stop China from buying the core of the

U.S. economy because they are the weakest, most corrupt bunch of politicians since the Gilded Age. Virtually every project Congress now considers is a commercial trans-action, where the beneficiary must provide campaign funds or support to the political parties or specific Members. This Congress merits the minimal low regard in which it is held.

The only ray of hope, and this may be nothing but a foolish wish, is that U.S. investment bankers, the global media, the Bush Administration, and this passive, corrupt Congress are unable to contain themselves and allow China to go on a historic buy-ing spree. In the resulting clamor, voters can then see how their futures are being sold away and how cor-rupt and weak our leaders are, how damaging unilateral free trade really is and how they are being cynically manipulated with emotional issues such as gay marriage and flag burn-ing.

Seeing “globalism” in the raw will be most enlightening for most Americans and if the scale and pace of sales are what I anticipate, even America’s lackey media will be unable to keep it disguised.

Hopefully, voters will turn out of office these dangerous fools and replace them with people ready and able to lead us on the long, expen-sive, hard road back to prosperity and independence.

If not, Americans should think about learning a few Chinese phras-es.

OPINIONFrom The Publisher...Is It Time For A New American Revolution? Two Hundred and twenty-nine years ago on Monday, a group of fairly ordinary men pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor as they issued the founding document of our nation, the Declaration of Independence.

That document has no legal standing today, but every year since then, we pause on July Fourth to honor it nonetheless.

Why?

Because, more than any other document ever produced in con-nection with the founding of this nation, it sets forth a real defini-tion of the American Spirit.

It suggests that people are more important than governments. It suggests that all men are created equal. And that we have rights which aren’t necessarily enumerated under the law. Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness.

Somehow, we don’t think that those men—worried about being governed from afar—ever envisioned what this nation that they founded would become. They just wanted self-government and it took extraordinary action to get it.

But here we are, 229 years later and, believe it or not, many of the problems they were trying to address back then are still with us in some form today.

We have a government which, absent vigorous watchdogs, would maintain central databases on its owners for “security” purpos-es.

We have a Supreme Court which believes in “state’s rights” when it is convenient and centralized government when the question is not so convenient.

Take two of the more interesting decisions the court has rendered in the past weeks.

In the case of the state of California, where the voters have voted to legalize medical uses of marijuana in contravention of Federal law, the Court ruled that the interstate commerce clause applied, despite the fact that the case in question dealt with a state licensed grower who by state law could only grow and sell the weed inside California.

It appears that the Court is willing to limit the freedom of the voters of California to address their own problems.

In the case of New London, Connecticut, the court ruled that the right of eminent domain remained with the local government, even if the purpose of the seizing of private property was to give

it to another private party for “redevelopment” purposes.

So, is it time to have another revolt and assume that 229 years is just too long to expect a democratic republic to respect the rights of its constituents?

We think not.

That lack of respect for we the people probably started among the nascent bureaucracy before the ink on the Declaration of Independence was dry.

Even though these breaches of common sense came through the highest court in the land, we can still correct them through the very tools which we were given in the next major document, after the Declaration. That would, of course, be the Constitution.

In the case of California’s marijuana problem, we need to suggest to Congress that a Federal law which cannot be overridden by a vote of the states needs to be repealed. If it is not, it is time to repeal the tenure of those in Congress until we get a law we can live with.

In the case of the local governments which like to steal people’s land for what everyone but technocrats acknowledge is a non public purpose, local voters must organize and get rid of those they elected in the first place.

The process still sort of works.

Here in Nevada—as rapacious and venal as our state legislature has proven it can be—they still managed to make it more difficult for the Clark County Commission and the Las Vegas City Council to steal the property of us little guys. (Utah has an even tougher law. And in Michigan, the state’s Supreme Court actually ruled such takings illegal under state law.)

And if the Nevada lawmakers had not acted, we could still simply remove both the County Commission and the City Council peace-fully.

We don’t need to have a violent revolution to change mistakes.

We can do it at the ballot box.

Because, if we don’t use the tools which are already available to us, why bother to complain at all?

The price of liberty is, and has always been, eternal vigilance.

We get the quality of government we ask for. FRED WEINBERG

When They Come To Take Your Property, Kill Them

Greedy local government bureaucrats and their chosen fat cat devel-oper friends got a shot in the arm from the Supreme Court last week when the high court sided with the City of New London, Connecticut in the case of Kelo v. City of New London, Conn.

The city of New London can now seize the ground that contains the 15 homes, knock them down and lease the property to a private developer for 99 years. No public use was argued by the city, just an increase in the tax base, and incredibly, five justices saw it the city’s way, while four justices dissented led by Sandra Day O’Conner.

The New London Development Corp., the quasi-public agency behind the redevelopment project already owns 90 acres on the Thames River, but the company wants the ground that contains the 15 remaining homes in the area and used an eminent domain action to secure the remaining prop-erty.

But, for some homeowners whose families have lived there since 1901, no price is high enough. Of course most readers remember that the Constitution’s Fifth Amendment contains the clear language that no person should “be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just com-pensation.”

For anybody but local government bureaucrats and a handful of Supreme Court justices, things like highways, police stations, and court-houses come to mind as examples of “public use.” And “just compensa-tion” means what amount of cash a seller demands in exchange for his or her property.

But now, the Fifth Amendment has been perverted to the point where “public use” means any private use that generates more tax dollars for city hall and “just compensation” meaning whatever the local government goons can steal the property for. “Promoting economic development is a traditional and long accepted function of government,” said Justice John Paul Stevens.

Judges should give city councils and state legislatures “broad latitude in determining what public needs justify the use of the takings power,” he added.

Justices Anthony M. Kennedy, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer joined him.

Dissenting Justices said the court was ignoring the basic rights to pri-vate property that were written into the Constitution.

Justice O’Connor said all property was now potentially subject to sei-zure. “Nothing is to prevent the state from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton, any home with a shopping mall, or any farm with a factory,”

she said.Justice Clarence Thomas noted that redevelopment schemes hurt the

poor, minorities and the elderly.“Over 97% of the individuals forcibly removed from their homes by

the ‘slum clearance’ project upheld by this court (in 1954) were black,” Thomas said.

Here in Las Vegas, Ngai Pindell, who teaches property law and land use regulation at UNLV’s Boyd Law School, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the court addressed a difficult case “in the principled way.”

“The case shows how hard it is for cities to balance individual protec-tions and public benefits,” Pindell said. “There’s potential for abuse on both sides, and the court opted for a flexible approach as opposed to a more rigid per se test. And I think that’s appropriate, given the difficulty of the decisions involved.”

Abuse on both sides? Does Pindell consider it abusive if a property owner wishes to continue to own his or her property rather than be forced to hand it over to government so a new Costco or Home Depot can be built to generate more tax revenue? And, this guy is molding the minds of aspiring barristers? We should all start sleeping in shifts.

United States Conference of Mayors Executive Director Tom Cochran released a statement that included: “The Supreme Court joins with The United States Conference of Mayors, as well as the National League of Cities, the National Association of Counties, the International City/County Management Association, the National Council of State Legislators, the Council of State Governments, and the International Municipal Lawyers Association in recognizing that without the use of eminent domain, cit-ies cannot make the changes necessary to sustain healthy economic and demographic growth.

The power of eminent domain provides elected officials at all levels of governments one of the basic tools they need to ensure the growth and well-being of their communities. “What he really means is to ensure growth of tax revenue and well being of government and government employees.

Harry Pappas, whose family’s property in downtown Las Vegas was taken by the City of Las Vegas and given to the Freemont Street Experience, a joint venture of the downtown casino owners, provides a clearer perspective:

“America now is just like the Nazi countries or the communist coun-tries,” Pappas told the Review-Journal, recalling how his mother’s family lost their property in Greece to the Nazis during World War II.

“They just took the Fifth Amendment out of the Constitution,” he said, referring to the amendment prohibiting government from taking property “without just compensation” and “due process of law.”

“When they come to take your property, kill them,” Pappas said.

Commentary: Albert ThomasTrading Vs. Investing

I often hear from people, “I don’t trade. I invest. I buy a mutual fund and I hold it”. Mr. Investor, did you know you are trading on a regu-lar basis? Are you aware that mutual fund manag-ers are changing their positions by selling certain stocks and buying others?

Mutual funds must report quarterly what stocks they are holding. You can get those reports if you want them. I can’t see where it will do you any good if you are going to blindly hang on to the fund.

A few professional traders will request these breakdowns only if a fund is greatly outperform-ing the market. They will see what stocks the fund manager has that is making this fund do so well and may buy those stocks. Very clever.

Did you notice that the investor is only look-ing at the best funds and not at the underperform-ers or the average performers? Now check your portfolio. Is what you own in the top most profit-

able funds for the past 3 or 6 months?I know your broker told you that you have to

look at the returns for the past 5 or 10 years. What nonsense. Do you care what the fund has aver-aged for the past 5 or 10 years or do you want to own one that is making money now?

Fund managers are constantly trading trying to increase the return for their investors. It is a shame most of them have not done a better job. They are always comparing themselves to the S&P500 index. When they do that well they think it is wonderful and they never stop bragging.

The S&P500 index is an average of the mar-ket. Mr. Fund Manager gets excited doing an average job. Does your boss like it when you are average? He expects more from you. And you should expect more than average from any invest-ment you make especially if it is recommended by an “expert” broker or financial planner.

If anyone does an average job he will be employed until the boss finds someone who will do a better job and then Mr. Average can find the door. That should be the same way you examine

the stocks and funds you own. The nonperform-ers should be sold and new ones found that will make money or go to cash. Don’t rely on your broker. His company never wants you to sell.

Investors who buy for “the long haul” are long term traders. They are not knowledgeable enough to sell when the market is going down as it did in 2000. When there is nothing to invest in then cash is the best position you can have. Having your portfolio in cash in a one or two percent money market account will many times outperform owning stocks or mutual funds.

Everyone who invests is a trader. It is only the time period that is different. AL THOMASAl Thomas’ best selling book, “If It Doesn’t Go Up, Don’t Buy It!” has helped thousands of people make money and keep their profits with his simple 2-step method. Read the first chapter to receive his market letter for 3 months at www.mutualfundmagic.com to discover why he’s the man that Wall Street does not want you to know.

.50-Caliber Ban Advocates Merely Amusing Bin LadenBy JOSEPH P. TARTARO

Executive Editor, Gun WeekSpecial To The Penny Press

Somewhere Osama bin Laden is laughing. So, too, is Abu Musab al-Zarkawi, and any one of the thousands of ter-

rorists that have graduated from an al Qaeda training camp. The joke is simple, one they understand easily, because it is a comedy

of misdirection being perpetrated on an American public deeply concerned about their personal, community and national security.

The authors of the flimflamery that is the current, much-publicized cam-paign to ban the private sale, possession and use of rifles—including single-shot models—capable of firing .50-caliber cartridges are deadly serious, but either totally unaware of their subject or purposely avoiding a thorough examination of their claims.

Most American military men and women and serious firearms and bal-listics experts aren’t laughing either, because they know enough about the subject to see why this is not a joke but a public policy mistake. They know that passage of bans on such firearms, like the one enacted in California, will have zero value in deterring terrorists.

However, some well meaning public officials and commentators con-tinue to press for such bans at the federal and state level. To them, it is incomprehensible that the Connecticut and Illinois state legislatures, that are far from averse to enacting more gun control laws, have failed to approve the .50-caliber prohibition measures introduced this year.Simple Explanation

The explanation is simple: the issue is so complex, and a full discussion may cause the widespread publication of information that could really help professional or budding terrorists. However, there are some aspects of this policy issue which are, or should be, common knowledge.

Let’s start with the claim that “powerful .50-caliber rifles” are more dangerous to American security than all other centerfire rifles, because they are capable of punching a hole in steel a mile away. According to the Violence Policy Center (VPC) and other ban advocates, that makes these rifles capable of shooting down airliners during takeoff and landing, and would make other important targets more vulnerable. They promise that an immediate ban will make us all safer.

That’s the part that has bin Laden and company laughing. As they have been demonstrating almost daily in Iraq and Afghanistan, and more recently in Pakistan and Indonesia, terrorists and their ilk don’t need .50-caliber rifles, or any other long-range rifles, to destroy government and civilian targets of opportunity or kill hundreds or thousands of innocent people. They don’t need .50-caliber rifles to shoot down helicopters, or to snipe at individual American military personnel. They also don’t need them to take out armored personnel carriers.

Terrorists have a lot of other options for mass destruction as they proved at the World Trade Center even before Sept. 11, 2001, in Oklahoma City and more recently in several world capitals.

They also know that if they want to target airliners, there are plenty of centerfire rifle cartridges that will do such dirty work out to 1,000 yards or so. Of course, they also know that to be truly accurate at such ranges, what-ever rifle they employ will need a very good riflescope.

Terrorists are well aware of the real differences between various rifles and their cartridges. Not every .50-caliber cartridge is the same; there are many different types of .50-caliber ammunition. In fact, not every .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun) cartridge is the same. Some, particularly those made for long-range accuracy and armor-piercing capability to military specifications, aren’t available on the civilian market.

Al Qaeda-trained terrorists also know something about logistics. For maximum mobility and stealth in urban areas, they don’t want to rely on any weapon that is overly heavy and cumbersome. Given their choice, what-ever their target, terrorists prefer easily handled, smaller cartridge, assault

rifles or submachineguns. If there’s bigger work to be done, they’ll opt for a shoulder-fired RPG (rocket propelled grenade).

Repeat DemonstrationsGiven those tools, or even wire, handy knives or box cutters, the well-

trained terrorist has repeatedly demonstrated that he or she is capable of maximum damage to military, government and civilian targets by whatever means employed.

The VPC’s Tom Diaz can appear on television as often as he can get before a camera, and he can even continue to show maps of Washington, DC, irresponsibly instructing where to position one’s self to illegally fire on vulnerable important targets of our government. He can continue to promise those targets will be safe as soon as all .50s are banned. He can get people like Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) to give speeches, issue press releases, have photographs taken with a .50 BMG rifle, but when all is said and done, no one will be any safer if those .50-caliber guns are banned.

That’s what bin Laden is really laughing about. The people he hates so much and is so determined to destroy are wasting their time and their precious resources debating useless bans on guns he has little interest in because of their limited utility to the terrorist cause.

The average gunowner should also be aware that, as Ronnie Barrett, president of Barrett Firearms Co. that manufactures arms for the military, law enforcement and civilian markets, has noted, a ban on a particular class of rifle because it chambers a cartridge that has the ability to penetrate tar-gets is only a precursor to bans on more centerfire rifles and cartridges.

“Now, we are only talking about those powerful .50 calibers, right? That’s what is in the VPC’s direct orders. Now, remember they are banning rifles because specific targets named in our infrastructure are susceptible to damage. Now tell me, what centerfire rifle cartridge won’t penetrate those targets? What centerfire rifle cartridge is not powerful? Not many or not any? So in order to comply with the spirit and intent of the law the Attorney General or State Secretary must add those cartridges to the banned list. The big lie is exposed. They aren’t just talking about .50s. They’re after your hunting rifles, centerfire target rifles—just about any rifle you own,” Barrett noted.

Like the great “assault weapons” hoax that was finally passed for a 10-year period in 1994, the .50-caliber ban scheme is an attempt to split gunowners with deceit and emotion, when the reality was that the gun ban did not prevent crime. It made no one safer. And no one has been damaged by its sunset. Debate Continues

The debate continues, of course, with many in the media editorializing about the immediate need for bans on .50-caliber rifles. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has already signed such a bill into law. The New York state Assembly has passed a similar measure which is now before that state’s Senate. Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is already blasting Gov. George Pataki and state Senate Republicans for not embracing the ban legislation and other gun-control bills passed by the Assembly.

However, not all lawmakers are ready to duplicate the .50-caliber mis-take that California has made. While some states are still weighing similar proposals, others have already decided.

The issue failed to get any traction in Connecticut and Maine. In Illinois, where the issue may be far from over this year, a proposal to ban .50-caliber rifles was narrowly defeated during the regular legislative session.

For those who believe that only the military can be trusted with such firearms as the .50-calibers, I noted that on June 6 a Norfolk, VA-based Navy destroyer inadvertently fired a .50-caliber machinegun bullet into a neighboring barge in the Norfolk harbor, which penetrated the interior of the barge without injury to any crew members.

The Navy said it was an accident. However, bin Laden is probably still chuckling at the logic of

Americans.

Imitate God By Walking In LoveThe world is full of unhappy people today—people who are wandering aimlessly through life because they haven’t discovered God’s purpose for their lives. This is not an over-sight on God’s part—He longs for us to discover our purpose. And He has provided a wealth of information in the Bible to help us find it.Sometimes He leads us in a particu-lar direction to let us know a specific purpose He has for us. If that doesn’t happen, then our purpose is to be obedient to God’s Word by letting our lights shine by showing His love to other people. As Christians, we are to be salt and light to a needy world, and we are to walk in love toward others. The Bible tells us we are to be imita-tors of God. Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]. And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us… (Ephesians 5:1,2). We are God’s representatives here on earth, and we are to imitate Him by walking in love. This isn’t always easy, and it cer-tainly doesn’t happen effortlessly. Walking in love requires making a decision every day of our lives that we will do it on purpose. We must decide to treat people right even though they may not be treating us right. We must keep doing nice things for people even if they don’t appreciate us. Sometimes it is dif-ficult, but it helps to remember that we are not doing it just for people. We are also doing it for God, as our ministry unto the Lord. Everybody has needs. We are sur-rounded by people who need to hear a kind word—people who need to know that someone loves and cares about them. And God wants to use us to help meet their needs. People need someone to encourage them to move forward in pursuit of God’s plan for their lives. The Bible tells us that Satan comes to tear down and discourage people, but God wants to

use us to lift them up and encourage them. I know that I could not have come from where I started in ministry to where I am today if God hadn’t provided people along the way who imitated God by standing alongside me and encouraging me. No one is an island—we all need someone who will stick with us and encour-age us even in the hard times.People are valuable to God, and He wants us to treat them like they’re valuable. We can do that by being complimentary—magnifying the

good in them instead of the bad. We can speak to them with a kind and gentle tone of voice, and let them know, both by our words and our actions, that they are important to us.Jesus not only commanded us to love others, but He also set an example for us. If we truly want to obey Him, we must imitate Him by walking in love toward the people around us.If you have a desire to imitate Christ, I encourage you to make a decision every day that you will find a way to be a blessing to someone by exhibit-

ing the love of God. There are all kinds of ways to let people know that you care about them, so start looking for opportuni-ties to be a blessing to others. And as you sow into the lives of others, believe God for a harvest in your own life.
