Arrive at Steamtown National Historic Site. Steamtown NHS is an industrial heritage site dedicated to the role that steam railroad transportation - and the people who made it happen - played within America's Industrial Revolution. Enjoy short train ride! It will depart from the park's Museum Core Complex. This train ride encompasses a 3-mile, 30-minute round trip through the rail yards crossing the Lackawanna River and passing the historic Radisson at Lackawanna Station hotel (former DL&W Railroad passenger station and offices), before stopping near the University of Scranton and beginning its return to the roundhouse boarding area. Enjoy free time exploring! The exhibits in Steamtown's History and Technology Museums include films, historic photographs, artifacts, railroad cars, and a sectioned steam locomotive. Since 1953, Roadside America has been one of the most iconic roadside attractions in the country. The Choo Choo Barn is a true work of art, built by one family over the last 70+ years. Our ever-changing display is located along Route 741, just east of Strasburg. Measuring over 1,700 square feet, the Choo Choo Barn display is home to scenes right out of Lancaster County and America. Dont miss the famous fire scene complete with REAL squirting water! In all, there are over 150 animated figures and 22 operating trains. Its like nothing youve ever seen before – and you dont have to be a train fan to enjoy the Choo Choo Barn! After your visit to the Choo Choo Barn, save time for The Shops of Traintown, featuring specialty retail shops and Isaacs Famous Grilled Sandwiches. We have something for everyone, all in one stop! Arrive at New Freedom, PA and experience the Northern Central Railway. Steam Into Historyis an excursion railroad that makes time travel possible! The Sunday Brunch Train leaves the station in New Freedom at 1:00pm and arrives at Glen Rock Mill Inn at 1:30pm; brunch and additional time to explore the Mill and downtown Glen Rock is from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. The train departs Glen Rock at 3:00pm and arrives back in New Freedom by 3:30pm. Arrive at Ma & Pa Railroad, take a train ride or take a walking tour of the historic Ma & Pa Rairoad Heritage Vilage at Muddy Creek Forks. Depart and return to hotel. Monday, June 29th, 2020 Day 3 - Railroad Museum and Olde Lincoln House Enjoy breakfast at the hotel then arrive at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. The museum's collection has more than 100 historic locomotives and railroad cars that chronicle American railroad history. Visitors can climb aboard various locomotives and cars, inspect a 62-ton locomotive from underneath, view restoration activities via closed-circuit television, enjoy interactive educational programs, and more! Arrive at West Chester Railroad Co and take a 90 minute train trip along the beautiful Chester Creek Valley in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Enjoy the train ride with lunch box. Arrive at John James Audubon Center. The John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove is situated on a historic 18th-century site. The farm where 18-year-old John James Audubon lived when he first came to America from France in 1803. Here, he developed a technique for drawing birds "from life" that would allow him to become one of the world's best-known wildlife artists. The hundreds of life-size portraits of birds contained in his seminal work The Birds of Americahelped inspire the formation of the National Audubon Society. The site includes the original three-story farmhouse, built in 1762, miles of nature trails along the Perkiomen Creek, and a brand new building, featuring indoor and outdoor exhibits focused on birds, art, and conservation. The Center is open seven days a week, from 9:30am-4:30pm. Trails are open dawn until dusk every day. Please enjoy Mill Grove! Tuesday, June 30th, 2020 Day 4 - Hopewell Furnace and Colebrookdale Railroad Enjoy breakfast at the hotel prior to checking out. Arrive at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site and learn how American industrialization began. Hopewell Furnace showcases an early American industrial landscape from natural resource extraction to enlightened conservation. Operating from 1771-1883, Hopewell and other "iron plantations" laid the foundation for the transformation of the United States into an industrial giant. The park's 848 acres and historic structures illustrate the business, technology, and lifestyle of our growing nation. Arrive at Boyertown, PA, and enjoy a lunch on own in this small, rural town. Next, head to Colebrookdale Railroad, also known as the Secret Valley Line, tourist railroad. Board one of our meticulously restored century-old rail cars for a two-hour expedition into one of the most scenic and historic regions in the northeast. Once the province of pioneers and patriots, the Colebrookdale is your ticket to a verdant land lost in time. Return to the station and depart for the Daniel Boone Homestead which is a historical site in Birdsboro, PA, telling the story of Daniel Boone’s youth in Pennsylvania’s Oley Valley and illuminates the daily lives of the region’s 18th-century settlers through the eyes of the Boone, Maugridge, and DeTurk families who occupied the site.
