• Square 1 Art paper
• Watercolor paint
• Paintbrushes and water
• Pencil & eraser
• 9”x 6” black construction paper
• 9”x 6” white construction paper
• Scrap construction paper in various colors
• Glue & scissors
• Black Sharpie marker
Phase 1
• Read to students the book, Tacky the Penguin, or any other penguin themed book.
• Paint a striped background.
Phase 2
• Review the book and look closely at the shape of penguins. Show a photo of a real penguin.
• Lead a teacher-directed drawing of a penguin. Student should practice in a sketchbook or on practice paper.
• Demo how to draw the parts of the penguin on black and white paper and details like feet, bill, hats and scarves on scrap paper.
• Students draw the following:
• Penguins body and flippers on black paper
• Belly, eyes and iceberg on white paper
• Bill, feet, and any “winter wear”
Phase 3
• Demo how to cut out all shapes and arrange on paper.
• Once arrangement is satisfactory, glue shapes to center of paper. (A dot is a lot!)
• Sign name with Sharpie marker.

Phase 1
• Introduce students to George Rodrigue and his Blue Dog paint-ings (visit http://georgerodrigue-foundation.org/education for great resources.)
• Draw Blue Dog, make sure to include the following:
• Oval for his head and a large “U” underneath for his body
• Eyes and add some “eye-brows”
• Muzzle and nose
• Two ears and four feet
Phase 2
• Review George Rodrigue’s Blue dog.
• Paint Blue Dog.
Phase 3
• Sign name with Sharpie mark-er.

Phase 1
• Show students examples of theart of Romero Britto. Discusslines and colors he likes to use.
• Students should draw a blockletter of their first name initial- draw big and filling the space.
• Draw 4 straight lines acrossthe paper. Students may use astraight edge to guide them.
• Erase any lines inside of theletter.
• Fill in letter with various pat-terns (lots of pattern handoutsavailable online.)
• Trace letter and patterns withblack marker.
Phase 2
• Review Britto’s pop art.
• Complete letter patterns andtracing with black marker.
• Add patterns to the back-ground, a different pattern foreach space.
• Trace pencil lines with blackmarker.
• Color background with variousmarker colors.
Phase 3
• Complete coloring.
• Sign name with black marker.

Phase 1
• Show students Edward Hop-per’s painting Lighthouse Hill.
• Draw a horizon line just above the middle of the paper.
• Draw the shore on the left side of the paper.
• Draw the lighthouse on the shore, it should extend from the top of the paper to the bottom (there are great step by step instructions available online for a more detailed description of how to draw a lighthouse.)
Phase 2
• Paint drawing.
Phase 3
• Trace all original pencil lines with a black marker.
• Sign name with black marker.

• Draw an even number of linesfrom the dot to the edge of thepaper.
• Choose two complementarycolored markers and color thebackground.
Phase 2
• Complete Op art coloring.
• Trace pencil lines (betweeneach color) with a black marker.
• Show students examples ofcontour line drawings.
• Students should draw a con-tour line drawing of their shoe onsmall white paper- draw big andfill the space!
Phase 3
• Complete contour line draw-ing.
• Trace with a black marker.
• Cut out and glue to center ofpaper covering the dot.
• Sign name with black marker.
