During this day camp, designed for youth ages 5-10, youth will learn basic gardening techniques, food safety, local foods, beekeeping, and SO much more! Youth will be actively engaged in a garden learning about plants and soil while planting their own seed and harvesting from vegetable plants! Space is limited, first come first serve, cost is $15, the day camp runs from 9:00am-4:00pm at the Pender County Agriculture Cen- ter, Auditorium in Burgaw, NC. Snacks and materials will be provided but youth need a bag lunch and sun- screen for working in the garden! For registration forms please visit the Pender County Cooperative Extension website located to the left of this column or call Lauren Brown, 4-H Agent at 910-259-1235. Surfs Up! 4-H Surfing Camp– July 28 Are you interested in learning how to surf?

What about learning more about ocean

conservation and marine biology with a

side of surfing? If your answer is YES, then

the 4-H surfing camp is for you! It is going

to be held July 28 from 8:30am-11:30am,

cost is $35, space is limited, registration

is due by July 14th, for ages 10-18! Par-ents are responsible for transportation to

County 4-H” and “Like” our page to receive weekly updates and keep

track of what 4-H is doing! 4-H photos are posted there along with helpful information about upcoming 4-H

events!

‘Days Long Ago” Tobacco Farm Life Museum Day Camp The Tobacco Farm Life Museum located in Kenly, NC is partnering with NC 4-H to bring forth a fun and interactive day camp designed just for 4-H’ers! Pender County 4-H will be going with Duplin County 4-H on July 14 from 8:00am-4:00pm. The cost is $15 for the day, transpor-tation is included, youth must bring a bag lunch. The day camp is for ages 7-12! Youth will participate in a guided tour of the museum, churning butter, interacting with a blacksmith dur-ing demonstrations, and taking traditional wagon rides. We will meet at the Pender County Agriculture Building and then travel to the museum in Kenly, NC. Hurry as space is limited, registration is due by July 5th! 4-H Member News A great big “Thank You” to all of the 4-H’ers,

club leaders, and volunteers that came out and

helped with the Blueberry Festival! Caraline

Wright, Ashley Oyler, and Emily Oyler from the

Spirit Riders 4-H Club will be representing Pen-

der County 4-H at the upcoming NC State 4-H

Horse Show on July 6-10 in Raleigh, NC. “GOOD

LUCK GIRLS!!”

Lillie Hansen, Morgan Hansen, and Morgan Wil-

son from the Buddies 4-H Club all presented for

the first time at the Southeast District Activ-

ity Day held on June 24, 2011 at Lenoir Commu-

nity College in Kinston, NC. All three youth par-

ticipated in the cloverbud category which is non-

competitive and all received ribbons for their

outstanding presentations! Pender County 4-H

would also like to recognize 10 year old Aidan

Shepard, a 4-H Member At Large for his win-

ning presentation in the Electric category! He

will go on to compete at the state level with all

of the other district gold winners at 4-H Con-

gress in July. Please see photos in the insert

page!

Pender County 4-H is made possible by all of the

parents, club leaders, and volunteers that con-

tinue to show their support for the program!

You all deserve a great big, “THANK YOU!”

This year, Pender County 4-H is participating in

the International Exchange program! We have 2

4-H host families, one is going to host a 30-day

Japanese student, and the other a year long

Ukraine student. These students will be partici-

pating in Pender County 4-H activities, so please

everyone make them feel welcome if you get the

chance to meet one of them! We are very

excited to be able to share 4-H with them!
