The Greek Peninsula of
Pelion
The Country of the Centaurs
The Homeland of the Argonauts
www.holidays-in-thessaly.gr
Our Philosophy The backbone of the thematic fields of activities and of creative programs in general is coupling holidays with the participants’ learning of the subject area, depending on the discipline in the thematic unit they have chosen. We have made up programs for all ages - children, teenagers and adults, through which one can com-bine learning, creating, mental balance and occupation, with the advantages that the region’s nature generously offers.
Pelion. The choice of destination of the peninsula of Pelion, along with the beautiful city of Volos and the sur-rounding Thessaly, enables participants to experience a different Greece. On the one hand from a mor-phological point of view of - mountains, seas, bays, beaches, islands, with their polymorphic nature, with rich and intense environmental features, friendly for participation in daily activities in nature and, on the other hand, to learn elements of Greek language through the rich Greek history and culture from cus-toms and tradition.
Starting from the myths, where Pelion is referred to as the resort of Olympian gods and the land of the Centaurs and the Argonauts, we are then led to the most important Neolithic sites throughout the Bal-kan peninsula, with many Neolithic settlements where strong activity has been recorded in all prehistoric periods, and we reach the modern Greek reality of today.
To travel through time and experience the activities of our choice, coupling the area’s natural riches with its sights, we have chosen the living quarters for thematic activities. Activities, whether they are done in areas with frugal living as the dominant feature, such as custom camp, or made with comfortable living in hotels and tourist accommodation, can be made in arranged areas, depending on the needs of pro-grams and activities. With these features, we escape from the narrow confines of "teacher- student" in a classroom, we replace learning with educational thematic activity and transform the student experience into lifestyle.
Our philosophy aims at the implementation of the thematic programs and activities in Pelion, which will lead us in an intercultural communication and meeting between people from Europe, through their ex-periential acquaintance with the Greek language and Greek culture. The programs seek to infuse the Greek culture into each participant who wishes to discover Greece and its history, combined with the region’s unique nature and thematic activities.
We are waiting for you on the Greek peninsula of Pelion, where we can make you live unique and unfor-gettable moments.

Eastern Pelion... Staring at the Aegean Sea
Pelion - a destination for every season.
A destination for all 4 seasons, either with its endless beautiful beaches, or the picturesque mountain villages, spread like an amphitheater on the mountain slopes, it becomes even more attractive and sought after. Crystal clear waters, beautiful coves and creeks that hug the slopes of the mountain of Centaurs create this unique and magical feel, making it most intense in the natural colors and the deep bright green forest.
Agios Ioannis
Agios Ioannis is one of the most famous seaside villages of Pelion, perfect for holidays throughout the year. Located about 46 km from Volos and accessible through the mountain path on the east side of Peli-on, it invites visitors / vacationers to swim in the emerald waters of the Aegean Sea, in one of the most beautiful and fascinating beaches of the legendary mountain. Every year Agios Ioannis attracts new vacationers from around the world, who, along with the returning visitors, enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. Agios Ioannis is marked by the great climate and the lush wooded mountain, which, downhill, meets the deep blue waters of the sea seductress Aegean Sea. This gorgeous beach runs northwards to meet the beach of Plaka and southwards, where you discover the magnificent beach of Papa Nero. In Damouhari , the blue sea becomes more intense, while the rocky beaches give you a sense of the wild landscape, with greener foliage of trees and more colorful flowers. Seeing the movie Mamma Mia, star-ring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, one understands the reason why Ntamouhari was chosen as the location where most scenes of the film were filmed. This dreamy scenery exudes the feeling of relaxation and carefreeness, while you will feel that you are in a different world, far away from the stress of every-day life. Damouhari is 3 km from Agios Ioannis. Agios Dimitrios is a picturesque village located 40 km from Volos, on a wooded ridge that descends to Agios Ioannis and the sea.

CHOOSING YMCA’S CAMP IN AGIOS IOANNIS PELION
Selecting a camp is definitely a tough decision.
Parents want to be assured that their kids will be safe,
cared for and that they will learn new things.
Kids want to have opportunities to have fun, make new
friends, become accepted. Although this wish list may
not be complete, it touches several of their summer
camping concerns of both parents and their kids. YMCA
camps take seriously into account the concerns of chil-
dren and parents. The glorious tradition of YMCA camps
began in the early 20th century and continues today with
success.
In safe facilities in a unique natural environment campers
can have fun, make new friends, learn to share their feel-
ings and their achievements, understand the importance
of teamwork, responsibility and cooperation. We want
children to experience a camping experience to feel good
about themselves and their achievements and wish to
come back in the next summer. We hope that the memo-
ries they will take with them will have a positive effect on
their life balance. It should be noted that it is possible to
couple with programs for accommodation for any accom-
panying officers parents of children in hotels of the area.
CAMPING PROGRAMS
YMCA as a pioneer of the institution of camps in Greece
introduced since the first years of operation unprece-
dented programs that aimed at the kids’ fun and enter-
tainment, but also at their education and creation of spir-
it of solidarity and cooperation. Sports activities
(individual and group), evening entertainment (theaters,
contests etc.), swimming activities (swimming lessons,
swimming and free play in the sand), trips to the country-
side and work with nature and the environment and cre-
ative activities entertain every day campers depending
on their age and gender.
In Detail :
Kids’ Camps Agios Ioannis Pelion
Camping programs (19/6-21/8)
Groups of campers - Thematic activities and Creative
programs. The Thematic activities enable children to
meet and work with new objects, gain knowledge, train
and create through activities they choose according to
their own impulses and interests. Programs through con-
structions, handicrafts, etc. focusing on the creative occu-
pation of children in showcasing their skills but also on
teamwork. Of particular interest are the activities on the
environment through gaming, the new experiences and
the contact with nature.
30
Sports The camp’s sports facilities, basketball, football, volleyball, beach volleyball, handball, show that for YMCA sports and mainly the development of sportsmanship among campers play a predomi-nant role in the daily program and foster in children a team spirit, the feeling and value of participation. Campers, after having learned the basics of sports, participate in team championships between tents while they develop their individual skills in ping pong, chess etc. The camp’s top sporting event is the Olympic Day during which campers participate in athletics and at the end of the day during a formal ceremony prizes and medals are awarded to the best ath-letes. Entertainment Entertainment in the camp of Agios Ioannis means fun and laugh-ter throughout the day, means evenings of creation and entertain-ment by campers for campers. Children prepare and present the programs, feeling the joy of teamwork, while developing the indi-vidual talents each of them has. Contests involving song, scream-ing, Indian night and masquerades, evenings around the fire and many other unexpected moments are the daily entertainment of campers. Excursions Life in YMCA’s camp is first of all life in the countryside and an en-counter with nature. Unique and unforgettable are the experienc-es of campers from small and large excursions scheduled on each side of Pelion. Coupling education with entertainment and touch and love of the natural environment, campers have the opportuni-ty to experience a different life than city life. Carrying a backpack, boys and girls begin to experience from end to end the magic of Pelion. Pathways into the dense vegetation on trails and stone paths leading to picturesque hamlets where they will stay overnight in the yard of a Pelion church. Excursions to a nearby beach, nights on the mountain, adventure and the legend-ary 3-day safari are unique experiences for the small explorers of Pelion.
Swimming
At the enchanting beach of Papa Nero campers enjoy twice per
day the joy of the sea. Daily learning of swim depending on age
and level of knowledge always under the watchful eye of experi-
enced camping officers and lifeguards. The aim of Pelion camp is
to familiarize children with the sea by providing knowledge of safe
swimming and gaming. "Frogs", "blue and white fish", "flying fish"
and "sharks" through daily exercises they learn the techniques and
improve their level and knowledge. A unique event is the swim-

historical camp of Pelion gathered around the fire under the age-
old plane trees. Come to live unique moments this summer. Our
tradition, knowledge and philosophy carry on on new paths.
Our philosophy makes the difference
Human relations and respect for personality are con-
stant goals. Our concern on a daily basis is to balance
entertainment - education – fun.
The goal is the child’s correct and smooth integration
into society through the participation in the program,
by learning to work as a team member in a wider socie-
ty with structure, organization and institutions.
Campers act at the same time as a unit, so they learn to
sustain themselves, to gain confidence, learn team-
work, communication, mutual respect, companionship
and mutual help.
Boys and girls participate on a daily basis in the multi-
faceted process of camping life , they learn by playing
and having fun to respect the individuality and diversity
of everyone, they experience the meaning of equality,
initiate dialogue and collective processes and swimming
races at the end of the camping season highlighting the
winners of each category.
They strongly live above all friendship and love for fel-
low people. No other camp has to provide so much.It is
no wonder that we are the first camp in Greece!
Our philosophy makes the difference.

Children come to sing
Pelion’s beauties
such beauties unimaginably
purify our hearts.
Let our hymn be heard
At the ends of the earth
and to God they exalt
the eyes of the soul
Pelion, Pelion I sing your praises,
I love and want you,
and wherever I go and find myself
of your name I’ll sing praises.
Hymn of the YMCA Pelion camp
42
Your blue sea
which bursts out fast,
with foaming waves
on rocks, in the sand
and the blue sky
that touches the water,
make your beauties double,
double beauty.
Pelion, Pelion I sing your praises,
I love and want you,
and wherever I go and find myself
of your name I’ll sing praises.
Hymn of the YMCA Pelion camp

I love and want you,
and wherever I go and find myself
of your name I’ll sing praises.
In your enchanting nature
We come small
to become giants n body and soul.

And when after years we'll
Be away from you and great
We’ll yearn like children
Pelion’s life
