Peer review assignment Trends and Strategies in the Creative Industries 2009-2010 Erasmus University Rotterdam Lecturer: Mathijs Leendertse Student: Charly Rozenberg, member of the http://joindigitallearning.blogspot.com/ blog. Peer review of the blog http://dobelievethehyve.wordpress.com/ , “Social networks 2.0, do believe the hyve” Introduction Social networks are a new way of communication between people. It is part of the web 2.0 revolution on the internet and shows the willingness of people to socialize in a more personal way, sitting behind a computer and reaching a lot of people with the same interests with the click of a button. This blog shows what can be done with social networks, the pro’s and con’s, with the Dutch social network site “Hyves.nl” in mind as a case study. In this peer review I will sum up some major and minor points of the blog with some recommendations at the end. Major points A first glance at the website put a smile on my face. It looked clean and there is a great overview of what can be seen. From the left to the right, it goes from the most important information (the blog itself), to the information on the writers themselves, ending with a fourth column which sums up the video’s used in the blog. The video embedding in this last column is really great. It works fast and it is easy to use. The column on the far left, the column with the actual blogs, looks also very clean. There are not enormous amounts of text and when you would like to know more, you can go on clicking and find your way towards the information. A look at the content makes it instantly clear what the blog is about and what the group and the individuals (with the more personal essays) want to achieve, a discussion about social networks and the link to reality. What I cannot find at the moment is a general consensus on what the group as a whole would like to achieve at the end of the assignment or a more direct link to the question on which the blog is based upon. Minor points Yet, there are some minor points I would like to address. Though the site looks very clean, it is still quite a lot of information in four columns. It would like to suggest to put the column with the information about who is who underneath the video column on the right and to widen the blog column on the left, that is what it is all about. Another point is about the essays and presentation. I personally prefer the essays and presentations to be embedded on the site. Now I have to download them. Also the snapshot option is not always working perfectly and is sometimes even slow. Recommendations As I said before, widening of the column with the articles makes it more clear what is to be read first, what is important. All the other information is for later or other purposes. For me, the blog looks very tight and the overview by itself is great, but it lacks some user convenience (which of course is a very personal thing!).

Peer review of the blog http://dobelievethehyve.wordpress.com/, “Social networks 2.0, do believe the hyve”

IntroductionSocial networks are a new way of communication between people.

Major pointsA first glance at the website put a smile on my face.

Minor pointsYet, there are some minor points I would like to address.

RecommendationsAs I said before, widening of the column with the articles makes it more clear what is to be read first, what is important. All the other information is for later or other purposes. For me, the blog looks very tight and the overview by itself is great, but it lacks some user convenience (which of course is a very personal thing!).
