With its outstanding mechanical properties and excellent processability, PEEK is ideal for components functioning in a wide range of highly aggressive environtments. It can withstands extreme pressure and continuous temperature of up to 260°C (500°F) and deliver enhanced performance that results in longer service life and reduced downtime. High Temperature Resistance Withstands continuous operating temperature of up to 260°C (500°F) and even higher temperatures for shorts durations. Good Wear and Abrasion Resistance Outstanding wear resistance over wide ranges of pressure, velocity, temperature and counterfacial roughness. Good Electrical Properties Maintained over a wide frequency and temperature range. Suitable for both microwave transparent and EMI/RFI shielded enclosures. Radiation Resistance Thermoplastic materials exposed to electromagnetic or particle based ionizing radiation can become brittle. Due to the energetically stable chemical structure of PEEK, components can successfully operate in, or are frequently sterilized by, high doses of ionizing radiation. Good Flame, Smoke and Toxicity Highly stable and requires no flame retardant additives to achieve a V-O rating at 1,45 mm (0.057 in) thickness UL94. The composition and inherent purity of the material result in extremely low smoke and toxic gas emission in fire situations. Main combustion products are CO and CO 2 ; Approved in aeronautical and mass transport applications

General Properties of PEEK Because of its inherent strength, thermal and chemical properties, PEEK continues to replace metals and other materials in a wide variety of applications.

Hydrolysis Resistance Retains mechanical properties and dimensional stability when exposed to water or stream at elevated temperatures and pressures. Tribologycal Properties Tribology may be defined as the interaction of contacting surface under an applied load in relative motion. If the surface of a material is viewed on a microscosopic scale, a seemingly smooth finish is, in fact, a series of asperities. Therefore, if two materials are then place in contact and moved relative to one another, the asperities of both surface collide. The removal of asperities may be considered as wear, and resistance to the motion as a frictional force. PEEK are used to form tribological components due to their outstanding resistance to wear under high pressure (p) and high velocity (v) conditions. Lubricity Inherently hard, lubricious surface offers abrasion resistance for low maintenance operation. High Purity Victrex PEEK materials are inherently pure with exceptionally low levels of ionic extractables and excellent outgassing characteristics. Chemical Resistance Excellent resistance to a wide range of chemical environtments including jet fuels, salt spray, and chemical/biological agents even at elevated temperatures. Excellent chemical resistance against bases, acids, organic, and inorganic reagents even at high temperature. Superior resistance against all automotive fluids. i.e. lubricants grease, break fluid, coolants, …

PEEK applications : Bearing shells, piston rings, valve seats, gears, seals, aviation, cog-wheels, pump vanes, fittings, plug connectors, wafer carriers, etc.
