DPA Scarecrows on the Square Applications The Annual Scarecrow on the Square is gearing up and applica-tions for the event is rapidly approach-ing. Applications will be ready for pick-up at the Downtown Paris Association office on September 21. Applications must be completed and the registration of 15-dollars must be submitted to DPA no later than October 1st. Set-up day is on October 2nd. Participants must contact DPA for setup time. All proceeds will benefit the DPA.

Monarchs, Bees and Pollinators Event at Tennessee NWR Visitor Center The Tennessee Na-tional Wildlife Refuge invites you and your family to come on over and join us from 10:00 -3:00 pm at the refuge visitor center located at 1371 Wildlife Drive in Springville, TN as we celebrate our all-important pollinators. The day will feature speakers and activities that focus on Monarchs and other butterflies, bees and insect pollinators. Partner organiza-tions assisting with the day include the Friends of Tennessee NWR, Quail For-ever, and the Kentucky Lake Beekeepers Association. A series of speakers will present programs that will include: 10:00 am - Danny Kimberlin – Monarch Con-servation – Friends of Tennessee NWR. 11:00 am - Bernie Leslie/James Hin-ton – Bees and Beekeeping - Kentucky Lake Beekeeper’s Association. 12:30 pm - Susan Woods – Native Gardening for Pollinators - Master Naturalist. 2:00 pm - Glenn Lee – Our Native Pollina-tors - Entomologist. The day will also include activities for the family on the back patio. A demonstration bee hive and

beekeeping equipment will be on hand provided by the Kentucky Lake Bee-keepers Association. Quail Forever will be hosting an activity that teaches about the Monarch Life Cycle. Entomolo-gist Glenn Lee will have lots to show about our native butterflies and insects. The day will also include a tour of the refuge’s new demonstration pollinator patch where live Monarch caterpillars, butterflies, and native plants are easy to see. The Friends of Tennessee will also have children’s crafts and will be show-ing children about milkweeds and how to plant them in seed cups. Free milkweed seeds will be available for all attending.For those wanting to picnic on the back patio overlooking a beautiful bay of Kentucky Lake, the Friends of Tennessee NWR will have hotdog lunches available for $5.00. All proceeds to benefit putting on free educational events at the refuge.The Refuge holds monthly free programs held at the new refuge visitor center sponsored by the Friends of Tennessee NWR that attempts to connect people with nature. Paris Landing to Participate in National Public Lands Day Paris Landing State Park will participate in the National Public Lands Day on Septem-ber 22. Help make the park beautiful dur-ing the Land beatification event set from 7 am-4pm. Volunteers will help with landscaping, flower beds, park signs, trimming bushes, placement of bird houses, and so much more. You can also learn more about the Tennessee River by attending the Modern Day Huck Finn event. Patrons will get a guided boat ride from Paris Landing State Park to Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park with an over-night camping adventure on the bank of the Tennessee River. The event is 65- dollars for Adult and 45-dollars for Kids 7-12. All food is provided. That event begins at 10am at the Paris Landing Ma-rina.
