1. BASIC USES• Adhesion to high density
polyethylene peel and stick laminates.
• Adhesion to liquid applied air and vapor barriers and building wraps.
• Termination and transition seals.
• Joint sealant for difficult to adhere to surfaces.
• Adhesive for Pecora XL-Span Silicone Transition Membrane system.
Limitations:Pecora AVB Silicone should not beused in the following applications:
• Water immersion or below grade appli-cations.
• On surfaces requiring painting with tra-ditional organic based coatings.
• As a structural glazing sealant
4.TECHNICAL DATAPecora AVB Silicone meets or exceeds therequirements of the following industryspecifications: • ASTM C920 Type S, Grade NS, Class
25, Use G, M, A and O (Polyethylene) • Acceptance by U.S. Department of
Agriculture for use in meat and poultry processing plants.
5. INSTALLATIONSurface Preparation: Clean all surfacesby removal of foreign matter and contami-nants such as oil, dust, grease, frost, water, surface dirt, old sealants or glazing com-pounds and any protective coating.
Porous substrates and precast concretepanels using form release agents other thanpolyethylene film should be cleaned bygrinding, saw cutting, blast cleaning (wateror sand), mechanical abrading or a combina-tion of these methods which will provide asound, clean and dry surface for sealant
application. Dust, loose particles, etc. shouldbe blown out of joints with oil-free com-pressed air or vacuum cleaned. Metal, glassand plastic surfaces should be cleaned bysolvent procedure or by mechanical means.Soap or detergent and water cleaning treat-ments are not recommended. Cleaning ofall surfaces should be done on the sameday on which the sealant is applied.
CAUTION: Solvents may be toxic and/orflammable. Refer to solvent manufacturer'sinstructions or Material Safety Data Sheet.
Priming: Pecora AVB Silicone does notrequire priming on most common sub-strates including most air and vapor barriermaterials. When sealing surfaces not pre-approved by the Pecora Technical Servicegroup, we strongly suggest adhesionpretesting, either in the field or in our labo-ratory.
Where primer is indicated, P-225 should beused on porous substrates and P-120 onnon-porous surfaces.
Pecora offers complimentary adhesion andstain testing in its laboratory on actual fieldsamples of substrate from the jobsite or onrepresentative samples from the same lots.Contact Technical Service for details.

3. PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONPecora AVB is a single component; 100%silicone sealant designed to adhere to lowsurface energy materials utilized in tradi-tional and novel air and vapor barriers.Pecora AVB Silicone is designed as an inte-gral component for transition sealsbetween dissimilar materials in air andvapor barrier systems.
Product Advantages:• Primerless adhesion to difficult to
adhere to weather resistant barriers.
• Excellent weatherability: Because of its100% silicone composition, it is virtuallyunaffected by UV, precipitation, ozone, and temperature extremes.
• Resilient: Will remain flexible underextreme temperature conditions.
• Superior green strength.
• Compatible with natural stones andother porous surfaces susceptible tostaining or silicone fluid migration

Precautions: Use with adequate ventila-tion or wear an appropriate NIOSH approved respirator. Contact with uncured sealant or with vapors generated during curing may cause respiratory tract irritation. Contact with skin or eyes may cause irrita-tion or allergic reaction. Avoid contact and wash thoroughly after handling. May be harmful if swallowed. Refer to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for more infor-mation.

8.MAINTENANCEIf the sealant is damaged and the bond isintact, cut out the damaged area andrecaulk. No primer is necessary. If thebond has been affected, remove thesealant, clean and prepare the joint inaccordance with the instructions under"INSTALLATION".
9.TECHNICAL SERVICESPecora representatives are available toassist you in selecting an appropriate prod-uct and to provide on-site applicationinstructions or to conduct jobsite inspec-tions. For further assistance call ourTechnical Service Department at 800-523-6688.
Application: Install backup material orjoint filler. Apply sealant in a continuousoperation. In cap bead glazing, tool thesealant applied at the sill so that precipita-tion and cleaning solutions will not pool.
Refer to Technical Bulletin #166 and #189for a list of substrates that have been testedand approved for use with Pecora AVBSilicone.

• 07 25 00 - Weather Barrier07 26 00 - Vapor Retarder07 27 00 - Air Barriers
Application:
Transition Seals: Care should be taken toavoid sealant application to adjacent sur-faces. Sealant should be applied in a continu-ous operation using sufficient material toensure continuous air seal and adhesiveperformance. A minimum 3/8” bond line isrecommended to achieve sufficient bondingand air barrier performance. Apply sufficientuniform pressure to ensure contact to allsurfaces to be joined.
Joint Applications: A thin bead of siliconewill accommodate more movement than athick bead. The bead should be no thickerthan 3/8" (9 mm) and no thinner than 1/8"(3 mm) for joints where excessive move-ment is expected. Ideally, the ratio of jointwidth to the sealant depth should be about2:1 when appropriate. Lap sheer jointsshould have a bead width which is equal toor greater than the total anticipated move-ment. Small curtainwall panels and litesshould allow a minimum width of 1/4" (6mm) for the sealant bead. Larger panels forwhich a great deal of movement is expect-ed should allow a minimum width of 1/2"(12 mm) for the sealant bead. Glazing ofplastic lites and panels fabricated from plas-tic require larger than usual joint dimen-sions due to the high coefficients of thermalexpansion/contraction.
Tool Time: (Initial skin): 25-35 minutes at77°F (25°C), 50% humidity. Higher tempera-tures and/or humidity will shorten this time.
Cleaning: Immediately remove all excesssealant and smears adjacent to joints withmineral spirits. Also use mineral spirits forremoving uncured sealant from equipment.Remove cured sealant by scraping, sandpa-pering, etc. (Caution: mineral spirits is flam-mable and toxic. Observe manufacturer'sprecautions.)
Shelf Life: Pecora Air-Vapor Barrier has ashelf life of 12 months from date of manu-facture when stored in unopened sausages
