GEODRILL - Bore rigs for geothermal heat extractionModel Geodrill 8R for radial bores

TRACTO-TECHNIK

• Due to the close-fit installation no annular space remains between the inside of the host pipe and the outside of the new PE pipe.

• The installed PE pipe is industrially manufactured; factory tested and has defined material characteristics

• The effective diameter of the host pipe is only slightly reduced, at the same time the hydraulic capabilities of the new pipeline are im-proved

• The contractor/customer gains a mechanically robust and new pipe with an extended service life

• Shorter construction time and civil engineering works results in minimal dealys to traffic flow and reduced disruption to local resi-dents

• Costs are considerably lower than traditional open trenching me-thods

• PE pipe tension measurements are possible using the GRUNDO-LOG tensile load measuring system

The pipe reduction method

Ever since the 1980‘s when it was acknowledged that pipe bursting technology was a safe and reliable pipe renova-tion method, The GRUNDOBURST pulling rig combined with the QuickLock rods has proved itself in the most dif-ficult applications and jobsite conditions.

In addition to the static pipe bursting method the GRUNDOBURST rig can be applied for various appli-cations, e.g. for „Pipe string re-lining“ and the „TIP – tight in pipe method“. With the „Pipe reduction me-

thod“ a further trenchless application can now be added to that list.

The pipe reduction method allows for a PE pipe string with reduced diameter which adapts to „close-fit“ to inside of the old pipe wall whilst being pulled through the host pipe. A characteristic of this method is the fact that the old pipe’s cross-sectional area at dia-meter is only slightly reduced. At the same time the hydraulic capability of the pipeline is improved.

Five reasons for pipe reduction

The pipe reduction method is applied for the trenchless rehabilita-tion of gas, water and sewage pipes and is beneficial for the:

• Repair of pipe leakages, cracks, aging wear and tear, pitting, cor-rosion etc.

• The rehabilitation of old pipelines which have reduced flow capa-city and impaired structural integrity.

• The installation of a mechanically robust new pipe up to OD 1200 in pressure steps SDR 17 and 11 and in lengths up to 1,500 m.

• The increased capacity of a pipeline network with increased flow volumes e.g. required by a growth in population.

• The prevention of unnecessary traditional open trenching and in-creased civil engineering works.

This is how it works

Once the decision has been made, then the inspection and cleaning of the old pipe/s is carried out The GRUNDOBURST then pushes the QuickLock rods through the old host pipe to the pipe installation pit.

The TT PipeREDUCER installed at pit face then guides the PE pipe string and connects it to the QuickLock rods. During the pulling in process, the PE pipe string outside diameter is reduced by about 5 - 12 % of original pipe manufacturer’s pre-formed size. After the pul-ling in and pipe reduction process the pipe string tension is relieved and the new pipe adapts close-fit to the old pipe’s inner wall (Memory Effect). Electrical welding fittings or mechanical pipe couplings con-nect the new pipe installed to the existing pipeline network.

With the pipe reduction method TT broadens both its competence and procedures (or methodology) in pipe rehabilitation. The custo-mer benefits from a versatile and reliable technology at their dispo-sal , which enables a pipeline in need of rehabilitation to be renovated with a close-fit new PE pipe string whilst also keeping installation costs low.

Reduction cone

FE (Finite-Elements) - simulation of the reduction process to determine the precise dimensions of the reduction cone and the required tensile strength.

Advantages

• Exact layout of the application case assisted by the most modern computer simulation method FEM (Finite-Element-Method)

• Job specific reduction cones• Disassembling is easier due to sectional reduction cone design • Reduction frame is available in three sizes• Compact manual hydraulics for pipe guidance

* PE 100 (20°C)

The reduction frame (image left) is available in three sizes: • RE R500B for pipes OD 250 - 500• RE R800C for pipes OD 500 - 800• RE R1200D for pipes OD 800 - 1200
