10) Spend 15 Minutes Each Day Planning Your Day

– Find a place that is relatively free of distractions

– Review your long-range goals

– Make sure the number of tasks and the amount of time required by each is well within the time available in your day

– Set specific daily goals for tasks

– Anticipate obstacles

Step 1: Make a list of everything you would like to accomplish today, including tasks that are not urgent.

Step 2: Give a value to each item on the list (ABC System)A – Vital tasks – MUST be doneB – Important tasks – Should be doneC – Relatively trivial tasks – Could be done

– When others know what your goals are, they can hold you accountable to achieving them

– Find mentors who have the knowledge in those things you are trying to achieve

7) Keep Your Workspace Clean

– A clean and tidy space creates an atmosphere without distractions and stress and supports people being focused.

– People will take you more seriously when your space is in order. Messy offices scream “disorganized individual”

– One inbox – All papers on your desk should go into one inbox to be addressed. Inbox lines up with your prioritized daily tasks. Remainder of desk should be tidy.

6) Stop Multitasking

– Turn your prioritized daily tasks list into a schedule. Blocks of time help.

– 5 Goals to achieve each work week = 1 Per Day. Put your head down and get one big thing done each day.

– Avoid over-commitment. Be realistic about what you can do in the time you have. Don’t be afraid to say no.

– Do difficult things quickly; waiting doesn’t make them easier.

– Don’t always ask for a deadline. Deadlines can become excuses to procrastinate

– My Day, Friday - On Fridays, do everything you’ve been putting off lately and go into the weekend with weight off your shoulders

4) Be A Problem Solver

– Don’t always rely on others for the answer or for help when a little extra work or research will help you find the solution and become more educated

– By being a problem solver you are essentially helping to manage others’ events because they don’t have to solve your problems

– Google search, sit back and think about the problem, take the time to learn how to do it once so you know how to do it in the future

– Keep your inbox below 10 emails that entail you to take action

– Create sub-folders for main categories

– Clean out your sub-folders once a month

– Flag your critical emails that require immediate response

– Consistent emails coming through derail your progress on vital tasks

– When you are going through email, read each email thoroughly (don’t scan) and respond with accuracy

– Build email time into your calendar

– Find “me-time” activities that align with your governing values

– It’s ok to do things that aren’t “productive” if they are done in moderation

1) The Mindset

– A valuable employee accomplishes his/her job responsibilities, but is always searching for ways to do it better or enhance the things that he/she works on.

– Initiative generally begins with frustration. When you get frustrated at work, make a list of those things and then brainstorm the things you can do to remove that frustration.

– Challenge the process but only challenge it if you plan to provide a solution

– Don’t rely on the students to direct your schedule

– Identify the chapter’s issues and work with officers to improve those issues. Build>Talk
