Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourselfwith PDF Standardizer using this Quick-Start

Guide.

This Guide will describe to you step by stepeach option and choice that you will have tomake in order to create a PDF Standardizationflow.

This Quick-Start Guide will also introduce youbriefly to the three technologies that are em-bedded in PDF Standardizer :

Alwan CMYK Optimizer Library

Enfocus FullSwitch

Enfocus PitStop Server is the world leadingsoftware for PDF preflight and control.

PDF Standardizer is supplied with the latestPitStop Server Library available.A library version means that you can use PDF

Profiles in your PDF Standardizer flow, but you willnot be able to create or define workflows usingPitStop Server as a stand-alone application.

PitStop Server Library embedded in PDFStandardizer will allow you to use Enfocus PDFProfiles(.ppp), Enfocus Action Lists(.eal),generate Preflight Reportsand, of course, useEnfocus Certified PDF technology.

PDF Standardizer is supplied with industrystandard Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF Profilesfor PDF Preflighting and Certification. Included

GWG PDF Profiles are version 1v4 profiles thatare compliant with the PDF/X-1a:2001 outputintents.

Alwan CMYK Optimizer is the world leadingsoftware for color preflight and standardization.

PDF Standardizer is supplied with the latestCMYK Optimizer Library available.

A library version means that you can use CMYKOptimizer Standard settings that are availablein your PDF Standardizer application, but youwill not be able to edit these settings.You also can not create or define workflowsusing CMYK Optimizer as a stand-aloneapplication.

CMYK Optimizer library embedded in PDFStandardizer offers CMYK Optimizer Prepressedition features.This editionallows you to Standardizer TACvalues, color separation and GCR for all your

PDF files, CMYK Optimizer also allows you tooptimize your files separationfor a specificoutput process.

With PDF Standardizer you can make yourworkflow compliant with ISO12647, GRACoL,SWOP... Standard printing conditions.PDF Standardizer is supplied with industryStandard ICC Profiles from ECI andIDEAlliance, However, you can also usePDF Standardizer to make a custom outputprocess (a digital press...) match a Standard

FullSwitch offers FTP and e-mail file reception,file sorting based on file type and namingconvention, flow management, and automatedemail notification to operators or customers.

FullSwitch is based on configurators that allow

third-party applications to be integrated easilyin a flow.

Setup and automation of those applications isfully controlled from within FullSwitch.

To use third-party applications, you juste haveto install them on PDF Standardizer computer.

PDF Standardizer is based on the full version ofFullSwitch.

Install and launch PDF Standardizer.Upon startup you will be asked to choosebetween a FullSwitch flow or PDF StandardizerWizard.

FullSwitch Flow

Choose PDF Standardizer, then click the Finishbutton.

PDF Standardizer Wizard will start.

This Wizard will help you create and define aStandardized PDF workflow that meets yourneeds in a very simple way.

The Wizard will ask you simple questions,and depending on your answers, a flow

corresponding to your needs will beautomatically created for you.

Remember that you will always be able to findadditional information and explanation abouteach possible answer in the Information field asshown below:

Question 1:Where are your input files produced ?

If you know, please tick the origin of the PDF files

you receive.If you do not know tick I dont KnowThe answer to this question will determineStandard Input ICC Profiles for the flow.If you choose:

Europe: ECI/ISO12647 ICC relevant Profiles willbe used.USA: IDEAlliance ICC relevant Profiles will beused.Everywhere:ECI/ISO12467 ICC Profiles will beused.If your PDF files originators use non standardRGB or CMYK profiles, you can choose Customand select these profiles manually.

Question 2:Are you processing...

PDF Standardizer allows you to set flows that arecompliant with the latest Ghent PDF Workgroup

1v4 specifications.

These specifications require that Adsand otherDocuments be processed distinctly.Difference between the two is the following:

Ads:Allows only 1 page PDF documents.

Any document: Allows one or multiple pagesPDF documents.

Question 3:

Would you like to use any embedded profile(s)and intent(s) ?

If you would like to use any ICC profileinformation embedded in a PDF file, tick Yes.

If not, please tick No.

If you are not sure, please tick I dont know.PDF Standardizer will adapt and use the chosenDefault Profiles.

Question 4:Where are you input files printed?

If you know, please tick the destination of thePDF files you produce.

If you do not know tick I dont KnowThe answer to this question will determine aStandard Output ICC Profile for the flow.If you choose:

Europe: ECI/ISO12647 ICC relevant Profiles willbe used

USA: IDEAlliance ICC relevant Profiles will beused.

Everywhere: ECI/ISO12467 ICC Profiles will beused.

I dont know: ECI/ISO12467 relevant ICC Profileswill be used.

Question 5:On which printing process are your filesprinted?

Please choose your output printing Processamong the available options.If your output process is a digital press, a digitalprinter, or an analog press having a customprofile, please tick Digital / Custom.

This will allow you to use your custom output

process profile. If you are not sure, please tickI dont know. PDF Standardizer will use arelevant ECI profile.

Question 6:How do you want to manage spot colors?

This dialogue allows you to define Spot Colorsmanagement of your PDF documents (Q2)

If you are not sure, please tick I dont know,your spot colors will be kept unchanged.

Question 7:On which paper are your files printed?(Available paper options depend on the proc-ess you have selected in Q5)

Please choose your actual paper category.

If you are not sure, please tick I dont know.The best category of paper for the output proc-

ess will be selected.

Question 8:What would you like to do?

Preflight: allows you to preflight your file tocheck if it has is any PDF or color compliancyproblem. This option does not fix any

encountered problem.

A preflight report is saved in the flow Reportfolder.

Standardize:allows you to preflight and fix mostPDF and color compliancy problems that maybe found. A preflight report is also saved in theflow Report folder with found errors, warningsand successful fixes,

A successfully Standardized and certified file willhave no Errors left after Standardization.

Question 8-1:Transparencies Management:(appears only if you choose Preflightin Q8)

Reject: PDF containing Transparent Objects willbe put in Error Folder.

Allow:PDF containing Transparent Objects willbe processed by the following flow steps (CMYKOptimizer and PitStop certification).

Note! Transparencies are not compliant withGhent PDF Workgroup 1v4 specifications.

Question 8-2:Transparencies Management:(appears only if you choose Standardizein Q8)

Put in Error Folder: if PDF contains transparentobjects, it will be put in flow Error Folder.

Flatten and Rasterize:if PDF file containstransparent objects, corresponding pagewill be Flattened and Rasterized by CMYKOptimizer.

I dont know: If you are not sure, please tickI dont know. PDF containing TransparentObjects will put in Error Folder.

Notes !If you chose Preserve Spot Colorsoption in Q6and Flatten and Rasterizeoption in Q8-2, filescontaining Spot Colors and Transparencies willbe put in Error Folder.

Please note that rasterizing PDF pages is a CPU-consuming and disc space-consuming process(100 GB free space recommended)

Question 9:What would you like to achieve?

Define the kind of output CMYK separation you

wish to achieve:

Standardize Output Ink Coverage (TAC):Maximum TAC of your output separations willbe limited to your desired value. If you choosethis option, all files TAC will be checked but onlythose having high TAC will be processed.Files having compliant TAC will remainunchanged.

Standardize Output Separations (GCR):Separations GCR will be harmonized to yourdesired option.

Both: This option will standardize all your filesoutput TAC and GCR to your desired settings.This is a recommended option to avoid highink density problems and to improve printability

and stability on press as well.

I dont know: If you are not sure, please tickI dont know. Standard and secure TAC andGCR values will be used by the software.

Question 10-1:Define your desired ouput TAC:(appears only if you choose StandardizeOutput Ink Coverage (TAC)or Bothin Q9)

Custom TAC:You can define your desiredmaximum TAC if it is different from above defaultvalue.

Question 10-2:Define your desired Output Black Generation(appears only if you choose StandardizeOutput Separations (GCR)or Bothin Q9)

Output Profile standard GCR: Default OutputProfile GCR according to your previous choices.

Alwan General Purpose GCR: Alwanrecommended GCR according to your previouschoices.

Question 11:Settings Summary

This last window will summarize all your settingsgiven your answers to the Wizardquestions.

Please name your new flow. This will be thename of your flow root folder.

Define the root directory where the flow main

folder and subfolders (IN, OUTPUT, ERROR) willbe sitting. If you choose Defaultoption, the flowroot folder will be created in your User / PublicFolder.

Enfocus PitStop Server and Alwan CMYKOptimizer are now configured and FullSwitchflow is automatically created.This Settings Summary is available in the flowdescription field:

To end the flow creation process, click the Donebutton.

If you want to create more flows, click on NewFlow. Wizard will start a new flow creationprocess.

Error Reportsfolder contains reports of files thatcontain errors that were not possible to fix.Corresponding files are not fully compliant with

ISO PDF-X1a and ISO 12647.You may want to fix these files or print themknowing found errors and risks.

PDF Standardizer workflow is automatically created according to your choices

6 - Merge OK Reports (Merge Tool)OK Reportsfolder contains reports of files thatare compliant with ISO standards.

Corresponding files are fully compliant with ISOPDF-X1a and ISO 12647. You can send them toany printer or print them in total security.

7 - ERROR (OutPut Error Folder)Files that contain errors that were not possibleto fix will be put in ERRORfolder.These files are not fully compliant with ISO PDF-X1a and ISO 12647. You may want to fix thesefiles or print them knowing found errors andrisks.

Example of errors that can not be fixed:Not embedded fonts, OPI links missing, etc.

8 - OUTPUT (OutPut Compliant Folder)Files that are fully compliant with ISO PDF-X1aand ISO 12647 are put in OUTPUTfolder .You can send them to any printer or print themin total security.

9 - GenericProblem (Rename Job)When a PDF Standardizer flow fails to handlea job for any reason that is not related toPitStop Server or CMYK Optimizer checks andfixes, corresponding file is renamed and put inProblem Jobsfolder.

10 - Problem jobs (Dedicated Folder)When a PDF Standardizer process fails to

handle a job, the problematic job is moved tothe Problem Jobsfolder.
