Dear Parishioners,

This week we celebrate Catholic Schools Week and are thankful for the blessing that we have in St.

Joseph Catholic School and Mount de Sales Academy. There will be a school open house today

(Sunday, January 28th) from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm if you would like to visit and take a tour of our

school. We still have openings for next year’s school year, so feel free to stop by for a visit.

This year, the Distinguished Alumni Award recipient is Pauline O’Mahony and we are grateful to her

for all she has done for our community and for our school. Congratulations Pauline!

This week we welcome a seminarian to our parish who will be staying with us for the upcoming

months while getting some on-the-job training. Solomon Kaanan has been studying to be a priest for

the Diocese of Savannah and has been studying at St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Boynton Beach,

Florida. His anticipated ordination is planned to take place in 2020. If you see Solomon around the

parish, feel free to welcome him and pray for him on his journey. As Jesus said, “The harvest is great

and the laborers are few. Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His

harvest.”

Thank you and have a blessed week.

In Christ,

Fr. Winchel

Catholic Medical Association The Catholic Medical Association St. Kolbe Guild and the Kol-

be Center are presenting a talk entitled “End of Life Medical

Issues: A Catholic Perspective.” This brief talk will be in the

St. Joseph Social Hall today January 28, 2018 at 3:00

PM. The presentation will discuss issues of planning, decision

making, advanced directives and other topics that confront

individuals and families during emotionally difficult

times. Light refreshments will be served. All are invited. If

you have questions contact Ann Beall at The Kolbe Center

[email protected] or 478-257-4425.

AED Machines And Medical Pagers

There are two AED machines located in different areas of the

church. One is in the back of the church near the elevator on

the wall over the water fountain; the other one is located in the

Social Hall just inside the double doors near the kitchen.

Our ushers are in need of volunteers to assist in an emergency

should the need arise during Mass. Volunteers are needed to

be in possession of our medical pagers during Mass. If you are

in the medical profession and would like to volunteer for this

important service, please see one of the ushers upon arrival at

the Mass you normally attend. We appreciate your assistance.

Lent 2018 We have some very eye-catching dates coming up in our

Church calendar. Ash Wednesday is February 14, and Easter is

April 1. Maybe this is the year to fall in love with Jesus in the

Eucharist, and the year to really become “fools” for Jesus. The

Diocese of Savannah is asking parishes to participate in a

program called Living the Eucharist. It is a time when small

groups meet for Bible study and discussion to further our

understanding of the Mass. It is for adults, youth, and families

---truly a program for everyone. Sign up to participate in six

small group meetings. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity

for growing in your faith!

Confirmandi Meeting Today, January 28th, there is a meeting for the Confirmandi

at 6:30 in the church. Parents and sponsors are encouraged to

attend.

Sunday Envelope System As parishioners we encourage the use of the envelope system

or online giving for your offertory. Since many of you have

taken advantage of the Online Giving option in lieu of using

the envelopes you may want to consider discontinu-

ing receiving them in the mail. If so, please call Cindy in the

parish office at 478-745-1631.

Question of the Week

What kind of “unclean spirits” afflicting some people do I

encounter? Do I risk becoming unclean myself when encoun-

tering those who are afflicted? Can I overcome that risk?

Mass Intentions One of the greatest gifts we can give our living or deceased

loved ones is to offer prayer for them. If you would like to offer

a Mass Intention, call or come by the parish office to make

your request. The suggested stipend is $10 per intention

which includes a card to be sent to the family.

Altar Servers I would like to thank all those who attended the altar server

introduction session. Please make sure you get your

of these sessions and would like to serve please contact Jim
