WHO IS LEBOHANG KGAPOLA

Born and bred in Mpumalanga Lebohang is a middle child of three,

raised in a Christian home where her burning passion for singing began

in church. Her extraordinary unique hoarse alto tone came to light on

Sunday mornings, belting out solo performances of classics such as

“Amazing grace”, “Lamb of God” and” ‘I surrender all’. These are her

all time favourite songs which carry sentimental value to the bubbly

extrovert. They remind her of the way her mother would lead them and

of the start of her music ministry. Lebohang was the youngest member of

an adult choir in her local church, it was impossible to overlook the quality

of her voice as it surpassed her years, she became the centre of

attraction for music concerts , remarkably becoming a force to be

reckoned with in her home town at the tender age of 7.

Over the years she has joined various bands and choirs ranging from

wedding performances to corporate gigs, lounge gigs, festivals and

television shows. Today she is associated with the likes of Khaya

Mthethwa, Neville D, Ernie Smith, Loyiso Bala and Israel Houghton.

She has graced television screens of big music shows like; Afro Café,

Gospel Alive, Stripped Down and the game show ‘I LOVE South Africa’

becoming the first lead vocalist in the first season of the show.

THE GROWTH

Lebohang moved to Pretoria in 2011 in

pursuit to fully focus on performing and

studying part time. Over the years she has

met and performed with different bands and

artists like: Just Friends, Apple soul, Zuri-Afrika,

Morning Dew, Den Wade, Paseka, Morayks, Dj

Micks, Kelly Khumalo, Neville D, Khaya

Mthethwa and Israel Houghton& New Breed.

In 2011 Lebohang succesfully auditioned for New Breed Africa

and met Israel Hoguhton and Neville D for the first time , it was

a divine appointment because in the following year she met

Khaya Mthethwa during the recording of the “New Breed

Africa” album which both Khaya and Lebohang were a part of .

In 2013 Lebohang was invited by Khaya to record the TV show

“Gospel alive” and she has since then become Khaya’s back up

vocalist, which led her to a feature in his debut award winning

gospel album “The Uprising” released in 2014. The song ‘This

generation’ has been a blessing in and outside church

dominations with over 18 506 views on You tube and many

downloads on I TUNES. The song is very dear to Lebohang’s heart

as it is a declaration song of our generation, which speaks about

knowing who we are in God and the power and courage we find

in God’s word.

HER JOURNEY

Lebohang’s ability to sing almost any music genre is

evident in the kinds of TV shows she has worked on ( Afro

café , Stripped Down and I love South Africa ), although

her heart lies with gospel music, she has excellently done

back up vocals for different artists ranging from Afro pop,

jazz, house music , kwaito, rnb, hip pop and Afrikaans

music. Lebohang believes one can glorify the Lord in other

genres of music, “the quality of one’s work reflects Christ in

you, whether on pulpit or in the office”. And since the stage

is her office, she does her work so excellently that God is

reflected in her. “GOD is the one who gives you ability

and strength and creativity to do what u do…whether it is

considered “God’s work” or not. Everything I do is for the

glory of the Lord, that He be known as the giver of the

gift of music in me, whether it’s gospel or not. He is still

glorified.

HIGHLIGHTSIn 2012 New Breed Africa (founded by Israel Houghton)recorded an album in which a song “Rain down” is a soundtrackfor the movie “I’m in love with a church girl” In 2014 Lebohangwas graced with the honour of ministering in Johannesburg withIsrael and New Breed, she then traveled with Israel&NewBreed to Ghana and Nigeria for more ministry work.Performing with Khaya Mthethwa in 2013 on South Africa’sbiggest talent show Idols is also one of Lebohang’s highlights ofher music journey.

HIGHLIGHTS 2014Lebohang performed the song “Beauty of difference”

and “Our God is Awesome” with Neville D and Brian

Temba on Etv’s morning show Sunrise. The song has

over 4 924 views on Youtube where Neville D features

Khaya Mthethwa and Lebohang Kgapola .

In 2014 June the first, Lebohang was covered by

one of South Africa’s biggest newspaper “Sunday

Sun” on page 15. Lebohang has also been covered

twice in a local Christian newspaper KRUSH in her

hometown.

In 2015 Lebohang was featured on the prime time

Gospel TV show “Gospel Classics” as a guest solo

artist.

Another highlight was her first television interview

on channel 340 Dumisa TV on the show ‘More than

words’ which played on the first of October 2014.

HIGHLIGHTS 2016-17During the 2016-17 period, Lebohang was

featured on various albums like: Khaya’s award

winning live DVD, The Dawn, Loyiso’s Kingdom

Come studio album and Ernie Smith’s album

called Closer.

She also did backings on Musa and Robbie

Malinga’s Mr Serious Album.She also was a finalist at the 4th Annual SA Indies Music Week, held at

Gold Reef City, Johannesburg, South Africa. Currently she is working on

her own music which is set for release in the near future.
