Transcript of Grace NewsGrace News addition to the Grace choir, Carol sings with the Arts District Chorale, ......
Dear Church Family,
The day has arrived! This Sunday,
June 2nd, immediately following our
10:50 worship service, we are all invit-
ed to bless and – for the first time –
feast our eyes upon our new kitchen and fellowship
hall! This has been a dream of the congregation and
its pastors as well as a need for many, many years and
it has come true!
As a church family, you will be part of blessing this
new facility, and you will get a peek at the Agape ex-
pansion in the basement as well. I believe that you
will be amazed, impressed, and grateful! Some of you
will remember the online picture of a very old, non-
functioning, and gigantic South Bend stove. This
same stove – completely refurbished, functioning su-
perbly well, and shining (thanks to David Lightfoot) –
is one of the centerpieces of our new kitchen! This is
only one example of the transformation that has oc-
curred over these past few months. You will not want
to miss this moment in time!
On this same day, we will welcome our eight new
Project Transformation interns to Grace and to our
community! To celebrate their arrival, we will be serv-
ing finger foods in our new kitchen immediately fol-
lowing worship and the blessing of all things new.
You will be doubly blessed on this day – you will
see a new creation, and you will meet the young
people who will be working with Grace to trans-
form the lives of those in our community!
We are blessed to be a blessing, and I am anticipating
with great joy sharing this time with all of you.
Whether you have been one who has dreamed about
this for years or whether you have just arrived on the
scene, you are a part of the joy!
Grace and Peace,
Judith Reedy

MUSIC MEANDERINGS
by Michael Manes
As we head into the home stretch for our choir season rest in July, we have only four more Sundays in the choir loft. I hope you will continue to thank the choir for their dedication to singing each Sunday. You won't want to miss this Sunday as we sing an "O Brother Where Art Thou" style anthem, "I Hear the Prophet Callin' ," with Cassie Finley leading off with a solo. It is normally sung in the style of nasal singing from the hills of Tennessee, quite a bit of fun! Speaking of fun, if anyone would like to sing or play a solo during the month of July, we welcome volunteers from the congregation to provide special music in the absence of the choir.
From our most talented redhead... "Carol St. George is a soprano who's been part of the choir since her 24-year-old son was in utero. By day, she's a freelance cop-ywriter (like Peggy on "Mad Men"). In addition to the Grace choir, Carol sings with the Arts District Chorale, where she has performed her favorite choral piece, "Lux Arumque" by Eric Whitacre. Carol enjoys being married to artist and famous postage-
stamp illustrator Cap Pannell. Her passions are singing, art, books, animals, birds, and chocolate." Tonnie Duncan sings in the tenor section. He came to us from the choir at Munger Place United Methodist Church. Tonnie, who lives in the neighborhood, has enjoyed singing at Grace for several years. He is one of the most faithful of our choir mem-bers because he never misses a Wednesday rehearsal or Sunday in the choir loft!

Christina’s Corner
Our children went roller skating
on Saturday. We had an absolute
blast! Some of them had skated
for the first time while others sped
around the rink like pros. To say
the least, some of us were less
experienced and still have bruises to this day. All in
all, it was a wonderful day full of laughter, fun, and
fellowship.
In other news, the Project Transfor-
mation interns will arrive this Sunday,
June 2nd. We have eight talented in-
terns who will be facilitating the pro-
gram. These are all young adults who
are inspired to make a difference in our community
by improving the children’s literacy. Let’s give them
the Grace welcome with food, fellowship, and love at
Grace Gathering this Sunday!
If you would like to volunteer with Project Transfor-
mation, please stop by the volunteer table. This is the
last Sunday we will have a table set up for you to reg-
ister. However, please contact me if you would still
like to volunteer. All volunteers are required to be
MinistrySafe certified before they can volunteer with
children. As always, Grace UMC, thank you for your
support.
The youth mission trip is coming up. Don’t forget to
drop your check or cash in the offering plate with
your stock fund donation. Every dime goes toward
our mission trip. Just make sure you write “youth
mission” in the info line of the check or write it on
the envelope. Thank you for your generosity.
Vacation Bible School is Monday,
July 8th to Friday, July 12th from 5:30
to 8pm. Please register your children.
Registration sheets are on the table
directly outside the office. We also
are in need of volunteers so talk to me
if you’re interested. Please join us for the “Fun Fair
Everywhere” VBS adventure!
Blessings,
Christina

One Last Blessing…..from Billie, a Grace Intern
Dear Grace family, Not only do you know how to welcome and support interns – you also know how to send off your intern – and just when I thought you could not possibly bless me more. Your reception following my last service was symbolic of God’s abundance. What a great idea to gift me with a recipe book! It is my newest favorite because it will bring us together at the table, even when geographically far apart. These meals will deeply nourish me in
more ways than one. More than anything, the gift of your love and encouragement continues to change my life. I tru-ly know now how Paul felt when he wrote to those he loved, thank-ing God every time he remem-bered them. In Philippians 1:7 (which we just studied in the So-journer’s Table class), Paul adds that it’s right for him to think that way about all of them because “you hold me in your heart.” An-other possible translation of that,
according to my Harper Collins Bible, is that it’s right because “I hold you in MY heart.” Oh – I surely do! I will constantly pray with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you. You ARE my Grace family. May God continue to lavishly love and bless you, as you have loved and blessed me.
Your Grace intern, Billie
The entire congregation is invited to preview the renovated kitchen and witness the blessing of the sanctuary, the windows, and the kitchen! We will welcome our interns from Project Transformation who will be worshiping with us, and we will celebrate with finger foods and all sorts of delicious food and drink in our new Fellowship Hall. You will be the first! Please plan to stay and celebrate immediately following worship.

Stephen Ministry Leader’s Training in Dallas
Since its inception in 1975, Stephen Ministry has provided congregations with the training, resources
and ongoing support to organize and equip a team of lay-caregivers (called Stephen Ministers) in their home churches. Stephen Ministers provide competent, Christ-centered care and support to people experi-encing grief, divorce, serious illness, job loss, loneliness, disability, and other life challenges.
There will be a one week Leader’s Training Course in Dallas on July 14-20, 2013 at the Westin Park Central. If anyone feels called to this ministry, please visit the website: http://www.stephenministries.org for detailed information about the program, the requirements, and the cost of participation. If GUMC has a member (or members) interest-ed in this ministry, the church needs to enroll in the program and pay a one-time enrollment fee.
