The Institute organized two day Workshop cum Exhibition “Hortiindia” in its Technology Park at Greater NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh on 18th -19th Feb.2012. The main theme of the workshop was “Innovative Production Systems in Horticulture” - A perfect blend of theoretical and practical horticulture. The main supporters of the Event were Ministry of Agriculture and Food Processing, Govt. of India Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, Govt. of India; Ministry of Statistical & Programme Implementation, Govt. of India; and Akil Bhartiya Grameen Vikas Sanstha, Greater Noida.
Highlights of ‘Hortiindia’His Excellency Dr. Iqbal Singh Lt. Governor Puducherry was the chief guest for the event. The chief guest along with other dignitaries took a round of Training Stands where “Hands on Training” was being imparted to the farmers by international and inhouse faculty of IHT majorly from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orrisa, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Jammu & Kashmir. There was enthusiastic response of farmers and entrepreneurs associated with the cultivation of vegetables in protected conditions in the training.

The event was inaugurated by the chief guest His Excellency Dr. Iqbal
Singh, Lt. Governor of Puducherry, Padamshree Dr. K.L.Chadha,
Chairman, IHT presented the welcome address and gave a detailed
presentation of the achievements and future plans of IHT; distinguished
guests of honour, Dr. Kirti Singh, Dr. M.L.Chadha, Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah -
Members of Advisory Board IHT; Dr. M. L. Chaudhary, Vice Chancellor,
Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, Bihar; Dr. Gorakh Singh, Horticulture
Commissioner, Govt. of India; Shri Sopan Kanchan,
shared the dais and addressed the
gathering at the opening ceremony.

INAUGURATION
In the Presidential address His Excellency Dr. Iqbal Singh deliberated in detail about the
possible income generation by adopting to the innovative technologies demonstrated
by the institute, especially in the small holdings by adopting greenhouse technology.
During the address need for trainings for such technologies was emphasized in
institutes which really had proper infrastructural facilities as demonstrated by IHT. His
Excellency was hopeful that the farmers, Govt. Officials and entrepreneurs will take full
advantage of IHT and get trained in the innovative technologies by the highly competent
faculty comprising of both National and International experts in the different fields.

Institute of Horticulture Technology was established at Greater Noida during the year 2009 with the objectives of providing hands on training to extension workers, farmers and entrepreneurs in modern technology of horticulture including protective cultivation. These trainings ensure a steady supply of well trained manpower that are fine tuned to the requirements of the horticulture industry and help the trainees to participate in the scientific growth of the industry in India.

Srikant Jena, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent)
Statistics & Programme Implementation, Chemical & Fertilizer, Govt. of India and other members of the team
visited stalls of Horticulture departments of Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh- Partner State for the Event and ICAR
stations of Bihar, Manipur, NCAPH, Saveer Biotech Limited and other stalls. The representatives in the stalls
explained the use of innovative technologies in horticulture, centrally sponsored schemes on Micro Irrigation,
National Horticulture Mission and major activities carried out by the respective departments/companies.The Lt. Governor and other dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the state governments and other agri. input companies for bringing in and showcasing the technologies for the visitors.

Interactive lectures formed important component of the event.
The lectures were delivered in different field of horticulture, the
lectures of foreign experts were translated in Hindi by IHT
scientists for the benefit of large number of audience mostly
farmers. The important topics were:
Role of biotechnology in horticulture delivered by Dr. Swapan
Kumar Dutta, DDG Crop Science, ICAR, Government of India,
New Delhi.

His Excellency Dr. Iqbal Singh was very much impressed by the technology displayed by IHT for demonstration and trainings of the farmers. All dignitaries appreciated the technology developed and demonstrated by Institute of Horticulture Technology and emphasized the need for getting farmers, extension workers and entrepreneurs trained in the institute which has state of the art facilities for such trainings.
