Why Vietnam?Industry developments, news and project opportunities:
77 plants to join electricity market in 2015, accoun ng for nearly 70% of the total capacity of the en re na onal power system. This is among the moves to enable the Na onal Load Dispatch Centre of Vietnam (NLDC) to run the power wholesale market in January 2016.
Vietnam Oil & Gas Group is expected to reach an agreement by 2015 with Exxon Mobil Corp. on a $10 billion natural gas and power project, the country’s biggest of its kind - to develop its natural gas fields, es mated to be the fourth-largest in East Asia, which it will be used to fuel a planned 2,500 megawa power plant.
The Vietnamese government intends to accelerate the deployment of smart power grid to enhance the power system opera on efficiencies. EVN is currently establishing an infrastructure to manage these new networks coming on-line in the not too distance future.
New Power Sta on Builds - A budget of US$83 billion has been announced to build 90 new coal fired plants by 2020. Vietnam an cipates power demand to more than triple to 330 billion kilowa hours (KWh) between 2011 and 2020 due to urbaniza on and industrializa on needs of her growing economy.
Transmission & Distribu on Grid Upgrades - In December 2012 it was announced that US$ 730 million had been allocated through to June 2020 for transmission grid upgrades.
Urban Infrastructure, Metro Networks & High Speed Rail - In addi on to extensive investment in metro systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City a US$33 billion,1600 Km high speed railway, with Japanese funding, is expected to reduce journey mes between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam has been gradually moving towards a petrochemical industry comprising of all phases of a produc on line - with new refinery builds at Nghi Son (PetroVietnam, Kuwai KPI, Idemitsu and Mitsui) , Vung Ro (Technostar), Nhon Hoi (PTT, Aramco) and refinery capacity upgrades at Dung Quat (Gazprom Ne ) which add to a net power demand from the new petrochemical industry sector, which will also drive new process engineering and automa on technology needs in Vietnam.
