My original board

The image background

Reflection on Original

• It doesn’t have any title on top of the board.

• The captured images are vague and taken from a far distance.

• Weak layout

• Cant see the design in real life (could use people and rendering)

• The white background of the images (jpg) should be removed as shown in

the images.

• The project aim was to bring the visitors close to the nature. The design is located within nature but you

don’t feel any elements of nature in the board.

• Not enough descriptive captions below the images.

Research Result one

Empty space

The image in the middle

Presentation board must communicate with the audience without excessive text and images and also be self

explanatory without the designers input. Also the designer should be ware of who the customer is

The text on the left

corner

balance

Page 5: PDF2

Unity, balance, colour repetition (black and white)

Page 6: PDF2

Research Result two

Unity: Is one of the most important concepts, All the elements in the board should look like they all belong to each other.

Space: White space in the board, don’t fill it up! Empty space makes it elegant, professional

Colour: Good colour usage can help you guide the viewer's eyes through the design.

Dominance: To make the certain part of the design standard out to the viewer

There need to be contrast in colours, size of text(for example Title)

Hierarchy: We separate the various part of the design into 3 levels of importance:

Most important , less important, least important and represent them accordingly.

Balance: It need to be harmony in the layout of the design otherwise the viewer become

Confused.

• The colour repetition you can see in the similar colours in the text and in the image

• Well presented layout

• The image on the left captures viewers attention.

Page 9: PDF2

• Title could be more eye-catching font.

• Slanting writings makes the board messy

• Disorganized layout( doesn’t have any harmony)

• Inconsistent font sizes

• Could put the elevation and section in a separate lines.

• The plan, elevation and section description should be clear and below of each image. ( for instance the front view

writing is on top of the image)

Rationale for changed

• Made my drawings seem more natural by rendering and using shadows and adding some trees from real

photos

• Added some people to show the relationship between the design and the surrounding peoples

• Organized my layout more coherently

• Removed the edge lines from sketch up to make the images plain and more clear

• Added a brief description of the project

• Colour repetition.(yellow, green,..)

• Make the main image bigger so it will capture viewers attention!

Page 15: PDF2

How do I intend to develop my skills

• Learning from experienced people.

• Try to see different designers works and receive inspiration.

• Follow journal/magazines and see different art works.

• Having good communication with the staff

• Deeply analysing my mistakes and learning from them.

I have learned how to make my portfolio during the sessions that I had with Matt and Mark. By researching and gaining inspiration

from professional designers works helped me to improve my skills.

I decided to have two ring binders for my portfolio:

• The first part includes five main abilities:

1) Page detail ability

2) Page detail ability

3 )AutoCad,(isometric, plan, elevation,…)

4) 3D visualization in a fancy way (rendering)

5) Sketching (ideas for projects, water colours,…)

• In the second part I decided to put one complete project which was the reception desk.

• Flash Cards

My Portfolio

Page 18: PDF2

1) In the first page I wanted to show the detail drawing ability so I decided to put 3D narrative projects from the first

year. These also show my Auto Cad abilities.

2 ) For the second page I decided to show my model making abilities. So I put different models from different projects

and rendered them. This is effective as it shows my ability of making model alongside the technical drawings to the viewer can envisage the construction.

First part

Page 19: PDF2

In these pages I captured rendered images that shows my 3D visualisation ability.

Flash cards

I have placed three of my finest pieces in A5 size Flash Card. I can use these to send for the company as samples of

work. In this way they can see some of my projects before the interview and I have some more works in my portfolio to

show and explain to them.

This is the development of my logo

I added my initials on the logo.

My logo is a design shaped like a bird which represents freedom of ideas and expressions.

Idea Job 1

I found this job very appealing. Previously I had worked on a project that involved making a reception desk for a vodafone company. I designed the layout and architectural plans by use of technical drawings. I became knowledgeable about materials and their finishes while considering agronomical aspects. I think working in this company will be great for me to apply my technical skills and also to enhance them. This company specialises in furniture design which is related to the project that I did.

here is the website: http://www.ralphcapper.com/

Ralph Capper Interiors are independent furniture consultants, based in Manchester UK since 1975. We create specialist furniture and lighting packages for places to learn, work and play.

Page 29: PDF2

Ideal Job 2

I have found this job suitable for me as I know how to work with CAD and I have learned how to work with 3D visuals

software's which the company uses. Also I took a look at their clients base which included hotels and restaurants. It

would be exciting to work in this kind of places.

I have noticed that during the third year we are going to design a restaurant (or bar). This will be related to the companys

line of work which involves restaurant and café interior design/refurbishment. So when I complete the second year I can

apply my skills of 3D visualisation.

The company’s clients

Some design proposal that I looked at. I found them fascinating and they were related to what I did in some of our projects.

Page 30: PDF2

Here I have wrote a short paragraph describing my characteristics and positive attributes. This will give the reader a good idea of my main aims and goals.

I have listed my educational history and work experience in chronological order so it will be easier for the viewer to understand about my background step by step.

My CV

Here I put my address and phone number.

Page 31: PDF2

Here I have listed my abilities and technical skills. This is effective because it will be show the abilities that are related to design oriented jobs.

Here I mention my outside interests that are related to the arts. This is effective as it shows how arts and design is a part of my life and inspires me make a positive impact on the world.

This is my website

Here is the ‘Home’ section. I described briefly what is the website about.

Page 33: PDF2

In ‘Bio’ section I put my education history, work experience and my skills as I did in my CV.

Page 34: PDF2

In the ‘Project’ section I put projects, from pre university till now in chronological order. In each page I explained

briefly what was the project about and also what I have learned from each project. So in this way we can sees a

timeline of my works.

Page 35: PDF2

In the ‘Contact’ page I put my logo and message box so people can send me a message regarding their

inquiries and comments. Also they can share their ideas about my work so in this way I can improve my

skills and try to solve the problems.

Page 36: PDF2

In my opinion interior design is the combination of both architecture and decorating. The title ‘Interior Design’ can be

replaced with ‘Interior Architecture’ as interior designer should know about the general concepts of architecture and

also the use of space and of placing objects in a position that considers the light effects and material finishes.

Article in this website: http://www.designcouncil.org.uk/about-design/Types-of-design/Interior-design/ indicated that

Interior Design is not just only about home decoration. It is also about redesign and refurbishment. In my opinion

renovation and refurbishment is also related to architecture.

In my opinion interior design is an important jobs. When a person opens his eyes in an office, restaurant, or any other

interior space, the first thing that will capture their attention is the environment. The ‘magical powers’ of an interior

designer can psychologically effect ones mind. If the environment is comfortable for them it will help them to do their job

better whether in an office, school…

The choice of colours is also important in interior spaces. Using dark and light colours also effect our mind and health.

Page 37: PDF2

We had a series of six lectures from ‘Careers and Employability’. I have learned some important things which I will

briefly explain about them below:

• I have learned how I can improve my CV and what are the main things that I should consider in it. So I added and

modified some parts of it. Also I add a new layout as my old CV was too simple for an interior design job.

• We also learned important points for presentations as many jobs ask for an approximate ten minute presentation.

• I learned different ways of job hunting, useful adverbs, job agencies, contacts, social media…

• Designs need to be economically viable so this will limit creativity as costs need to be kept to a minimum and type of

materials taken into consideration.

• Designs need to be appealing to society. The latest trends, fashions need to be considered when designing structures.

Page 38: PDF2

This is my sketch up practice that I have done during my spare time.

Page 39: PDF2

My skills development

Here is perspective drawing sketch. I need to try to draw the lines straight without the use of a ruler.

Page 40: PDF2

Drawing furniture helps me to practice the details and shapes of different furniture from various angles.

I did some drawing from different angles .I should concentrate more on fine details.

Page 41: PDF2

Practicing my sketching skills

Page 42: PDF2

Another example of furniture drawn from different angles. Again I should be aware of that in perspective

drawing s the scale needs to be more accurate.

Page 43: PDF2

I figured out how to scale curve shapes in AutoCAD accurately while I was doing Studio design project.

Page 44: PDF2

• I have subscribe to Grand design magazines

• I play piano and Persian traditional drum

• I paint in my spare time. I am fascinated by water colour and oil paintings.

• I am very interested in following Tv programs that are related to design and architecture.

• I have people in my family that are architects and get advice from them.

• I have got some books form library , I am specially Interested in building restoration as in my opinion buildings

represent the history of a nation and its preservation is very important .

• We had an essay to prepare for the dissertation and I my subject was architecture in modern day Iran and I have

research various buildings in different eras and compare them and see the influence of each style and era.
