Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads Department Level, College Level, Instructor
Classes & Training Requirements
This booklet was developed by the Tennessee Association of Rescue
Squads for students planning to participate in our department, college
and instructor level classes. Included is a guide of prerequisites the
student is required to provide to the TARS State Training Coordinator
in order to attend and participate in our advanced level training
courses. The prerequisites set forth in this document are to be sent to
the State Office via email, fax or mail no later than 2 weeks prior to the
start of class. Anyone who fails to submit their prerequisites at least 2
weeks prior will not be enrolled.
Included in each class description is a detailed list of Personal
Protective Equipment, hand tools, and other required equipment to
help the student come prepared for the classroom and field exercises.
Registrations for advanced level classes will be cut off two weeks
prior to the start of class and onsite registration will not be
permitted. Student substitutions will not be allowed during the
two weeks prior to the start of class.

Basic Department Level Classes
Basic Extrication
TARS has adopted the Jones & Bartlett Vehicle Extrication Levels I & II:
Principles and Practice training program. This program is NFPA compliant
and designed to teach the basics of extrication to the new trainee, as well
as, refresh the experienced extrication technician. This is a department
level class led by certified TARS Instructor I Vehicle Extrication instructors
at the department’s convenience and on their own individual schedule as
time and resources permit.
Course Hours:
Basic Level Class: minimum of 40 hours
Recertification Class: minimum of 20 hours

Student Prerequisites:
Personal Protective Equipment for this class includes:
Structural firefighting gear or extrication jumpsuit, helmet, eye
protection, leather or extrication type gloves, hard sole shoes-
preferably steel toe or any instructor approved type boot. All gear
must meet NFPA compliance and/or standards.

Water Search & Recovery
The Water Search and Recovery Class is designed to teach the
student about the search and recovery of drowning victims. This class
is taught on the department level and is a 4-hour class.

UTV/ATV Operations The UTV/ATV Operations Course is designed to review skills and provide
refresher training guidelines for ESO’s that use specialty UTV/ATVs to
respond to off-road incidents. Participants in this course will have the
opportunity to gain and verify a broad range of competencies and best
practices associated with operating UTV/ATVs. This program consists of the
following topics: extent of the problem, operator selection, protective gear,
pre-planning, basic safety, skills practice and maintenance. This class is
taught on the department level and is suggested to be a 4 hour or 8-hour
class.

Bloodborne Pathogens
This class will introduce the student to information on controlling and
preventing the spread of communicable diseases frequently
encountered by emergency service providers according to OSHA and
CDC standards. The student will learn the correct way of donning and
doffing personal protective equipment such as latex gloves, gowns,
mask, and foot covering. Course is taught on the department level by
certified TARS Instructor I BBP instructors.

Vanessa K. Free
The Vanessa K. Free training program meets the Tennessee Code
Annotated (55-8-194) for emergency drivers. This course covers
emergency vehicle operations and the laws regarding such with
emphasis on the State of Tennessee and is taught on the department
level by certified TARS Instructor I VKF instructors.
Student Prerequisites:
Must have valid driver’s license

The Bloodborne Pathogens program may be taught along with the
EVOC course with no additional charge. The Vanessa K. Free program
may be taught along with the EVOC course at no additional charge.
EVOC- Emergency Vehicle Operations Course
This course by itself does not meet the requirements of the Tennessee
Code Annotated 55-8-194 (VKF Law). It is recommended to teach VKF
along with the course. Participants in this course will have the
opportunity to gain and verify the broad range of competencies
associated with emergency vehicle driving. These competencies
include basic understanding of emergency vehicle operation as well as
the necessary skills for practical application. This course is taught on
the department level by certified TARS Instructor I EVOC instructors at
the department’s convenience and on their own individual schedule as
time and driving course availability permits.

Advanced Extrication
The Advanced Extrication Course gives a more detailed use of tools and techniques for
more complex extrication. Extrication principles learned in the Basic Extrication Program
are built upon to enhance the rescuer’s efficiency and performance in unique and
challenging situations. This course offers more one on one instruction and engages the
students “outside the box” thought process. This is taught on a regional basis by TARS
certified college level instructors.
Student Prerequisites:
Must have Current Basic Extrication certification- a copy of card to be sent in with application.
Personal Protective Equipment for this class includes:
Structural firefighting gear or extrication jumpsuit, helmet, eye protection,
leather or extrication type gloves, hard sole shoes- preferably steel toe or
any instructor approved type boot. All gear must meet NFPA compliance
and/or standards.

Units desiring to host an Advanced Extrication class will be
required to sign a letter of agreement and are required to
furnish or supply the following:
Room suitable for the classroom type setting of up to 40 people with white screen.
Minimum of 20 cars to destroy with a mixture of cars, light trucks and props.
Props for the junkyard- Ex. Light poles, jersey barriers, concrete pipes, etc.
Equipment and an experienced operator for moving vehicles during class
The class host will have 2 free slots in the class
Further equipment and/or display vehicles may be required at the training program request if applicable.
Mass Transit Rescue The Mass Transit Rescue program is designed to give students a well-rounded
education on bus construction and types of buses, as well as, other forms of
public transportation. Discussed in the class are tour buses, trains, and a special
emphasis placed on school buses. Basic Extrication procedures, intermediate
procedures and advanced rescue techniques are taught in a mix of field and
classroom activities. Taught on a regional basis by TARS certified college level
instructors.
Student Prerequisites:
Must have Current Basic Extrication certification- a copy of card to be sent in with application.

Gear/Extrication Coveralls, Helmet, Eye Protection, Leather or

Units desiring to host a Mass Transit Rescue class will be
required to sign a letter of agreement and are required to
furnish and/or supply the following:
Room suitable for the classroom type setting of up to 40 people with white screen.
Minimum of 2 buses either school or touring type to destroy and demonstrate and practice rescue techniques
A new type school bus or any other type to show how
they are built
Approximately 2 cars/light trucks for props to use under
the bus
Equipment and experienced operator for moving the
buses and turning them over

Heavy Rescue The Heavy Rescue program is designed to impact knowledge and development
skills in extrication techniques needed for large trucks, semi-trucks and trailers,
and heavy lifting. Stabilization techniques, access points, and typical cab
construction are some of the subjects covered. This class is a mix of field and
classroom exercises. This class is taught on a regional basis by TARS certified
college level instructors.
Student Prerequisites:
Must have Current Basic Extrication certification- a copy of card to be sent in with application.

Hosting Heavy Rescue Class:
Units desiring to host a Heavy Rescue class will be required
to sign a letter of agreement and are required to furnish or
supply the following:
Room suitable for a classroom setting for up to 40 people with white screen
Minimum of 3 trucks to destroy with 2 of them preferably having sleepers on them
A loaded truck & trailer for lifting and stabilization
Any type of specialty truck to show- Ex. Concrete mixer, gas tanker, etc. (It would also be nice if those had operators to explain their functions)
Large wrecker and experienced operator to turn over and set up scenarios.
Car/Light Truck for props to use- minimum of 2
This class host will have 2 free slots in the class
Farm & Heavy Machinery Rescue The Farm & Heavy Rescue Class is designed to introduce the student to
situations and hazards related to farm and heavy equipment accidents.
Identifying hazards such as fertilizers, pesticides, silo’s, as well as stabilization of
tractor overturns and equipment disassembly are some of the subjects covered.
This is a mix of classroom and field exercises. The class is taught on a regional
basis by TARS college level certified instructors.
Student Prerequisites:
Must have Current Basic Extrication certification- a copy of card to be sent in with application.
Personal Protective Equipment for this class includes:
Participants will be required to furnish and wear NFPA approved Turnout

Hosting Farm and Heavy Machinery Rescue
Class:
Units desiring to host a Farm and Heavy Machinery Rescue
class will be required to sign a letter of agreement and are
required to furnish or supply the following:
Room suitable for the classroom type setting of up to 40 people with white screen.
Different types of farm equip. for use of stabilization and to take drive chains or belt and pulley systems lose to demonstrate entrapment and entanglement
A tractor(s) or large piece(s) of equipment to turn over and stabilize
A working farm with several items to show hazards around farm
Construction type equip.- Ex. Backhoes, bulldozer, logging equip. etc. can be used for stabilization scenarios.
The class host will have two free slots in the class
Basic Trench Rescue The Trench Rescue course is designed to impact knowledge and develop skills
in order to properly shore trenches and to mitigate a trench cave-in rescue
quickly with minimum danger to those involved. It will teach the student how to
utilize equipment and resources already at their disposal as well as recognize
the resources in the community that can be readily used in Trench Rescue. This
class is taught in a regional basis by TARS certified college level instructors.
Student Prerequisites:

ANSI/ISEA Z89.0-2009 (Class E, Type I) Approved helmet or
construction type hard hat
ANSI Z87.0+ Approved Eye Protection
Long Pants, Hard Sole Shoes (Preferably Steel Toe, Leather or
extrication type gloves
Tools Needed and to be provided by student to include:
Hammer (minimum of 16oz), nail apron, tape measure (minimum
25ft), pencil and some type of small writing pad
OSHA 1910/1926.502; ANSI Z359 Approved Fall Protection Safety Harness
and lanyard if applicable

Advanced Trench Rescue The Advanced Trench Rescue course is designed to impart knowledge and
develop skills in order to build on skills and knowledge previously learned in the
basic class. Advanced Trench Rescue course includes more advanced designs
of Trench Rescue with “T” and “X” type trenches. Also, the use of mechanical
shoring devices and other techniques and equipment available to deal with these
type incidents are covered in this course. This course is taught on a regional
basis by TARS certified college level instructors.

Structural Collapse The Structural Collapse course will address in a mix of classroom and field exercises,
the tools and techniques required to mitigate light frame structural collapse in search
and rescue operations. Topics include: structural assessment, building types,
deployment considerations, vertical, horizontal, laced post, sloped floor and raker
shoring will be taught. In addition, breaching techniques, the use of specialized
cameras, and listening devices for searching voids in collapse situations. This course is
taught on a regional basis by TARS certified college level instructors.

clothing to include the following:
ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2009(Class E, Type 1) Approved helmet or construction type hard hat

Hosting Structural Collapse Class:
Units desiring to host a Structural Collapse class will be
required to sign a letter of agreement and are required to
furnish or supply the following:
Room suitable for the classroom type setting of up to 40 people with white screen.
A structure that can be used to work inside and outside to stabilize different areas of the structure also be able to demolish certain parts of the structure if need be
A sea land container can also be used for different parts of the scenarios- but keep in mind a sound structure will also be needed in different areas also
TARS will provide material for the class and all material will be used afterwards to be cut up into cribbing for other classes, and material that can be used for other structural collapse classes will be marked and used again to save on cost when another class comes up
The class host will have 2 free slots in the class
Motorsports Rescue This course provides a basic introduction into response for accidents involving race cars. Includes anatomy of the race car, extrication techniques, motorsports equipment, safety devices, spill control, clean-up, and extinguishing small vehicle fires along with victim removal. The course is taught by certified TARS college level instructors with real world motorsports rescue experience.
Student Prerequisites:
Must have Current Basic Extrication certification- a copy of card to be sent in with application.
Personal Protective Equipment for this class includes:
Structural firefighting gear or extrication jumpsuit, helmet, eye
protection, leather or extrication type gloves, hard sole shoes-
preferably steel toe or any instructor approved type boot. All gear must
meet NFPA compliance and/or standards OR approved motorsports
track safety apparel.
The Motorsports Rescue Class is only scheduled when

Hosting Motorsports Rescue Class:
Units desiring to host a Motorsports Rescue class will be
required to sign a letter of agreement and are required to
furnish or supply the following:
Room suitable for the classroom type setting of up to 40 people with white screen.
Race car(s) chassis or complete race-car(s) to
dismantle and practice extrication techniques
Track at which to perform simulated exercises
along with proper track safety equipment
Portable fire simulation device for fire mitigation
exercises.
Additional race car(s) preferably with driver to
display and explain various types of driver safety
equipment, chassis structure, access points and
hazards associated with the vehicle.
The class host will have two free slots in the

NASAR SARTECH III
The NASAR SARTECH III class is designed to introduce the participant to
the complex concepts of land based search and rescue operations conducted
in the rural environment. This course is intended for all Law Enforcement,
EMS, Emergency Management, Fire and Rescue Personnel that conduct
land based Search and Rescue Missions. In this course the participant will
receive instruction on the importance of proper SAR management, lost
subject behavior, subject finder/locators, defining the role of the search
manager and search personnel, introduction to map and compass reading,
basic land navigation, and team building. The student will also receive
introduction on basic rescue techniques such as; basic rescue knots and
rope utilization for low angle rescue, and basic patient packaging for
wilderness extraction.
The SARTECH III level of certification is the beginning level for SAR
personnel. This level is recommended for any person who responds to and
functions on SAR missions. Persons who obtain this certification are to
function within the limits of the certification described in the NASAR
standards for SARTECH III. The NASAR course that teaches the knowledge
to challenge the SARTECH III is Introduction to Search and Rescue (ISAR)
The examination consists of a (75) seventy-five question written test covering
the candidate's knowledge of search and rescue. A passing grade is 70% or
above.
Upon successful completion of the requirements, a certificate will be issued
to the person by NASAR. This certificate does not constitute a license to
practice the skills taught in a training program or to practice the knowledge
and performance skills that have been evaluated.
The written exam includes questions from the following topics:
NIMS Incident Command System Land Navigation & Orienteering SAR Resources Search Philosophy Search Tactics Clue Consciousness Search Operations Lost Person Behavior Helicopter Operations Communications
Candidates who successfully complete the evaluation process will receive a certificate and patch from NASAR signifying their certification level.
NOTE: SARTECH III is being updated during the first half of 2016. Additions include a small field exercise and test section making SARTECH III a field position. In the future, passing the FUNSAR written test will no longer provide an automatic SARTECH III certificate, due to the addition of the field testing portion.

SARTECH II
NASAR has developed three courses using the NASAR Standards for
SARTECH. These courses are Introduction to Search and Rescue,
Fundamentals of Search and Rescue and Advanced Search and Rescue.
These courses are designed to teach the student the knowledge and skills
necessary to pass the level of SARTECH certification that correspond to the
course.
The SARTECH II level of certification is the intermediate level for SAR
personnel. This level is recommended for any person who functions on SAR
missions as field searchers. The NASAR course that prepares the candidate
to challenge the SARTECH II is Fundamentals of Search and Rescue
(FUNSAR).
There are no prerequisites required for a person to challenge the
SARTECH II examination. However if not challenging, SARTECH III
required.
Certification history does indicate persons who have had formal SAR training
and experience on SAR missions successfully pass the examinations more
frequently than others do.
The SARTECH II examination consists of written exam and a practical exam.
The written exam includes one hundred and forty-five (145) questions
covering the candidate's knowledge of search and rescue. A passing grade is
70% (102 correct answers) or above.
Successfully passing the SARTECH II written test assures the candidate to
be certified at the SARTECH III level whether the practical exam is passed or
not.
Candidates who successfully complete the evaluation process will receive a
certificate and patch from NASAR signifying their certification level. NASAR
does not require a particular re-certification time period but leaves the
decision to the organizations and agencies that utilize the SARTECH
personnel.

SARTECH 1
The SARTECH I/CREWLEADER level of certification is the advanced level
for SAR personnel. The level is recommended only for persons who function
on SAR missions as field searchers and who may function as Crew Leader.
Persons who obtain this certification are to function within the limits of the
certification described in the NASAR Certification Criteria for SARTECH
I/CREWLEADER. The NASAR course that prepares one to challenge the
SARTECH I/CREWLEADER examination is Advanced Search and Rescue.
This examination consists of both a written exam and a practical exam. The
written exam includes one hundred and twenty (120) questions covering the
candidate's knowledge of search and rescue. A passing grade is 70% or
above.
The candidate is also required to successfully complete a four station
practical exam. Should the candidate not successfully complete the practical
exam, only the stations that are failed need be repeated within one year of
the original testing date. The re-testing may be completed at any SAR TECH
I/CREWLEADER examination. If the retesting is done within the one year of
the original testing date, no additional payment to NASAR is required.
However, a host organization may charge a reasonable fee to cover the costs
of hosting the repeat examination.
Candidates must be certified at the NASAR SARTECH II level.
Candidates must have a current Advanced First Aid certification or
above and a current CPR certification or above and provide proof at
exam. An ideal Crew Leader should be at the EMT level or above.
It is recommended, but not required, that candidates have at least one
hundred (100) hours on SAR missions; one hundred (100) hours of land
based SAR training; and at least two (2) years active membership with a
SAR organization.
Candidate needs all equipment required for the written and practical exam.

Swiftwater Rescue Awareness and Swiftwater Rescue I The Swiftwater Rescue Awareness course teaches river dynamics, river hazards, and overviews Swiftwater search and rescue methods and tactics. This course is held as the initial module of the Swiftwater Rescue I course. Swiftwater Rescue I provides students with instruction in swift water dynamics, self-rescue/swimming techniques, ropes and knots, rescue equipment, rescue wading techniques, and technical rope rigging in swift water environments. These courses are combined into 24 contact hours of training that is EXTREMELY PHYSICALLY DEMANDING. It is recommended that the students should be comfortable in the water, should have at least good swimming ability, and should be in good physical condition. Personal Protective Equipment for this class includes:

Gloves- Leather palms must stay on when swimming.
Whitewater, competition water ski gloves, or mechanics gloves
with velcro wrist straps are acceptable.
Footwear- River Work Boots are preferred. No open toe river
sandals can be worn unless worn over dive boots. Dive boots
provide adequate sole thickness or ankle support. Lace up
sneakers may be worn as last resort. Socks are preferred, but
AVOID COTTON SOCKS.
Thermal Protection: Two-Piece Farmer John Wetsuits are
preferred. Artificial fabric t-shirts or paddling undershirts are
recommended as a base layer under the wetsuit. Full body
water or dive suits are acceptable, but wetsuit thickness should
not exceed 3.5 mil. Students wearing thick dive suits or dry
suits will be vulnerable to heat stress- these are discouraged.
Whitewater splash or dry tops may be worn over a Farmer
John Wetsuit. Cotton clothing is also discouraged.
Accessories- Two or more locking aluminum carabineers and
7ft length of 1in nylon webbing or 7mm prusik chord
Throw Bag- Each student should bring a swift water rescue
throw bag containing at least 55ft of water rescue throw rope-
70ft rope bags are preferred
Personal Items: Students must provide their own food water
and any other desired non-alcoholic drinks along with coolers
and ice. Electrical service is not available at Thunder Rock.
Students should also bring their own sunblock personal
medications raincoat etc.
Prohibited Items: Students are prohibited from wearing knives or
whistles in the river. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited by the U.S
Forest Service regulations at the Thunder Rock Campground or
anywhere else at the Cherokee National Forest.
The instructors are in charge at all times. If a student becomes ill injured exhausted or otherwise unable to complete a required course element the student may be restricted from further activities by the Chief Instructor after consulting with the student’s team instructor and/or medical personnel.
Swift Water Rescue II
The Swift Water Rescue 2 course provides students with instruction in paddling and guiding inflatable boats in Swiftwater, advanced tether swimming, big water boating and swims, tether V-lower techniques, and night Swiftwater search and rescue operations. This twenty-hour course is EXTREMELY PHYSICALLY DEMANDING. It is recommended that the students should be comfortable in the water, should have at least good swimming ability, and should be in good physical condition. This course meets the applicable NFPA Technician/Level II objectives.

IN ADDITION:
Safety Equipment- A river knife must be worn or in a readily available position to all
students. A whistle with no moving parts should also be worn by each student.
Lights- Each student must provide at least 1 waterproof light. Helmet-mounted lights
are preferred. Each student should also provide at least 2 green chemlights of at
least 8hrs of duration. The students should provide at least 4 cable ties to secure
chemlights to helmets and throw bags.
Personal Items: Students must provide their own food water and any other desired
non-alcoholic drinks along with coolers and ice. The Saturday lunch must be
contained in watertight container that is suitable for carrying in a whitewater raft.
The Saturday skills are performed on a whitewater in remote wilderness conditions.
Students should plan to be self-sufficient for up to 12 hours for the Saturday river trip.
Students should bring their own sunblock, personal medications, raincoat, etc.
Swiftwater Rescue III Pilot Class
Swift Water Rescue III instructs advanced Swiftwater rescue skills not
addressed by the NFPA. This course is primarily scenario-based, but
will also have advanced skills development content. It teaches and
reinforces specialized rescue swimmer and advanced paddle raft
techniques. Swimming skills include swimming with fins, river board
rescues, cold-water swimming, and strainer rescues. Boating skills
include large group logistics, inflatable boat operations, advanced
paddling techniques, advanced guiding, and rescuing victims that are
not wearing PFDs. This course exceeds the scope of the NFPA
Swiftwater rescue objectives. This class will be taught as a Closed
Pilot class to finalize the draft curriculum initiated in 2015. The
course may be opened up for recent 2016 Swift Water Rescue II
graduates based on the number of returning 2015 students who
will have the first right of refusal. Please check website for

ALL 2015 Swiftwater Rescue III students who attended the initial
pilot class are invited back to attend the 2016 revised pilot class
at no charge. Returning students must fill out an application form.

Basic Rope Rescue skills are preferred, but not required.

Basic Low Angle Ropes Class The Basic Low Angle Ropes Class meets the NFPA 1006 requirements for technical rescue. This course will focus on knots, low and high angle rope rescue set-ups, lifting and lowering systems and mechanical advantage systems utilizing rope techniques. This is achieved using a mixture of classroom and field exercises. This course is excellent for the basic rescuer to gain the basic skillset in dealing with low angle rope situations. While not a prerequisite for the 2016 calendar year, in 2017 this basic low angle ropes training will be required for attendance in Swift Water Rescue and Awareness I class and is also recommended for other Rescue College level classes, especially Basic and Advanced Trench. This information is also extremely helpful to the basic responder to assist in patient removal from a variety of situations normally encountered in the rescue/EMS field.

5 point suspension system…fire helmets are acceptable for this low
angle class)

Instructor I Extrication The Instructor I course is designed to enable a student to teach a class from a
prepared lesson plan. It prepares you to instruct the TARS basic squad level courses
on Vehicle Extrication. Separate modules are offered for Vanessa K. Free, EVOC and
Bloodborne Pathogens, and if attended within 1 year of the initial Instructor class the
additional discipline class fee is offered at half price. Concepts of learning,
communication skills, instructors’ roles and responsibilities, teaching techniques, and
the use of instructional materials are also subject areas included.

Student Prerequisites:
Must be registered and all prerequisite information sent in prior to class. Due to the increased cost, i.e. fuel, towing, etc. to host this class, the fees for the class have gone up. Each student will receive a copy of the Extrication Program upon completion and certification of the class.
Must have a letter of recommendation signed by the head of their department.
Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
Must have been a member of an emergency organization for three years.
Must have current Certification in Advanced First Aid, First Responder or higher medical level training.
Shall have attended Advanced Extrication, Big Rig Rescue or School Bus Rescue within the last 4 years
Proof of all prerequisites must be turned in to the TARS State office at the time of registration.
Students shall have been certified in squad level extrication courses within the
last two years.
Students must be certified in NIMS IS100, IS 200, IS700, and IS800
Personal Protective Equipment for this class includes:
Structural firefighting gear or extrication jumpsuit, helmet, eye
protection, leather or extrication type gloves, hard sole shoes-
preferably steel toe or any instructor approved type boot. All gear
must meet NFPA compliance and/or standards.
Notes: Participants will be expected to interact and address other students in
an instructor role. College Instructors will offer feedback and teaching tips
during a mixture of classroom and field exercises. (All requirements must be
met two weeks prior to the beginning of the class in order to be considered as
an Instructor Candidate.)
As of March 25th 2011, the following changes have been implemented. As and EVOC/VKF/BBP Instructor for TARS you are required to teach and turn in appropriate fees and paperwork to the state office for at least one class every two years after becoming an instructor. Any instructor that does not teach or assist with a class within this two-year window will be dismissed as an instructor from TARS. As an instructor you are required to attend re-certification class every 2 years. Any instructor that misses their recertification class may attend the next year’s class upon paying a $100 reinstatement fee and pay the appropriate fees at the next year’s recertification class. This will get you up to date with your certification and then you will be attending in the correct manner with the date you certified. Classes that are taught and not processed along with the appropriate fees are not considered certified classes and are not valid.

**Any EVOC instructor who has their operator’s license revoked, suspended, or limited for ANY period of time, the instructor MUST IMMEDIATELY notify the TARS Training Officer. The instructor will IMMEDIATELY start teaching and participating in all EVOC classes, and contests within the TARS, until the next Training Committee meeting. **
Notes: Participants may be expected to deliver a five 5-minute talk on a rescue
related topic. Another presentation may be required on an assigned topic. This is a
department level class led by in house TARS certified instructors at the department’s
convenience and on their own individual schedule as time and resources permit.

A two-year certification period remains effective for Level I
Instructors.
The bi-annual fee is $30 per recertification period. This will
be collected at the respective instructor updates. No pre-
registration is required for this class.
Instructors in the Alpha Group need to attend their regional
update on odd years and those in the Bravo Group on the
even years.

Class Host Memorandum of Understanding Agreement
All Squads/Units interested in hosting one of the Rescue College Classes referred to within this document will be required to complete and sign a MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO HOST RESCUE COLLEGE COURSE AGREEMENT prior to the class. The purpose of this agreement is to provide the necessary documentation to ensure that both parties (the host agency and the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squad’s Training Division) are clear and aware in their understanding of the various responsibilities involved with providing training. This agreement describes the expectations that each party agrees to meet in order to provide a mutually beneficial opportunity for all involved.
