WEDDING BANNSII ~ SARAH CATHERINE SMITH & DANIEL PAUL WOOD
THEME: REJOICE IN YOUR GOD, THE GOD OF HOPE AND LIGHT. The world literally grows darker each day this time of the year. But as dark as the world grows, the darkness will not overcome the light. Jesus is the light of the world. He illumines our darkness with His love and truth. We are able to sit in the darkness with confidence that the Lord is with us.
LITURGY OF THE WORD: Today’s readings are readings of hope for a future that is bright with promise. Isaiah announces a year of favor from the Lord in which all manner of suffering is soothed. Saint Paul reminds us to rejoice, to pray always and to give thanks in all circumstances. In John’s Gospel, we hear that the Light has come into the world, and it cannot be extinguished.
TO HELP WITH YOUR HOLIDAY PLANNINGCHRISTMAS EVE/DAY: Sunday, December 24th ~ Monday, December 25th, 2017The Fourth Sunday of Advent will be observed on Saturday evening, December 23rd, and Sunday morning, December 24th. 165TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OPENING MASS THIS SUNDAY Bishop Murry will preside at the 9:30 a.m. Mass followed by a brunch at Ciminero’s, hosted by the Niles Catholic Women’s Club. Parish Council has many fun and community building activities planned throughout the coming year. Please make time to participate in as many of those events as you can. Did you see the very nice article on our parish in the December 1st issue of the Catholic Exponent? If not, there is copy of the article on our bulletin board in the vestibule.
COMMUNION FOR THE HOMEBOUND If someone in your family or a neighbor is homebound, in a nursing home, in the hospital or recovering at home after a hospital stay and would like a visit and Communion, our new Deacon, Frank Marino and other Eucharistic ministers are available to make those calls. Please call the rectory to arrange for a visit.
2018 CALENDARS Our 2018 parish calendars have arrived and are available in the vestibule. We sincerely thank Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home and Shaker and Shaker, Attorneys at Law, for sponsoring our
calendars once again.
STEWARDSHIP Third Sunday of Advent “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18This scripture reading sums up Stewardship. “Rejoice always” means place your trust in God; He will provide all that you need. “Pray constantly” means prayer should be a running conversation with God throughout the whole day, every day. “Give thanks in all circumstances” means even in bad situations, thank God. Suffering a little bit helps build empathy for others in similar situations.

VOCATIONS“Do not quench the Spirit.” The Holy Spirit works in us to help us understand how best to follow God. Yet, our own cares and concerns can deaden the voice of the Spirit. Ask the Lord to fill you with the Spirit to know and follow His call, especially if His call is to be a deacon, priest or religious. To find out more, call Father Christopher Luoni at (330) 744-8451, or email [email protected].
A Family Perspective by Bud OzarToday’s gospel reports “there is one among you whom you do not recognize.” It is hard to believe Christ is present in a family with crazy schedules, suppers that start too late and end too early, cars that don’t start, misunderstandings, frustrations, piles of laundry, unmatched socks and stretched food budgets. The list is endless. The words spoken at Mass, “The Lord is with you,” are not a hope, they are a fact.
The hope we have in Jesus ChristBrings joy into our heart; And when we know
the love of God, His peace He will impart.
JOY. We have inexpressible joy even though we have trials, because our faith is being tested and proven genuine. The end of this faith is the salvation of our souls.
