Questions To Ask Candidates

As in the last newsletter, here are

some more Constitutional

Questions To Ask Candidates.

 Why is separation of power

safer than concentration of power? Government is “force”

 which Washington compared to

“fire” and said government is a

“dangerous servant” and a fearful

master.” Power should be dispersed

among the people where they can

keep it under control.

 What remedies did the

Founders provide if

government of cials violated the channel of power assigned

 to them? Administrative pressures

from other departments are

provided and if his off enses are

serious he can be impeached for

treason, bribery, high crimes or

misdemeanors.

e started our meetings

for the new year on the

15th of January. Mary

Jane Aurdal-Olson, Board

Member, WashingtonFederation of Republican

Women spoke and gave a

workshop called “Ask Me No

Questions, Iʼll Tell You No Lies”

regarding the importance of

asking specific questions

about a candidate's back-

ground, opinions, qualities and

character. She also swore in

our officers for 2010: DianaLandahl, President; JuDian

Guimbellot, 2nd VP; Linda

Siegel, Secretary; and Loraine

Jankord, Treasurer. (Sharon

Krey, 1st VP, was absent).

. January also brought candidates

to us for both State and US positions.

Sean Salazar and Doug

Cloud both spoke to us as

candidates for office. SeanSalazar, running for U. S.

Senate, spoke and gave a

thorough briefing on his

background and

accomplishments and why he

is running against incumbent

Democratic Senator Patty

Murray. Doug Cloud, running

for State Representative,

spoke briefly about hisrenewed commitment to

defeating US Democratic

Representative Norm Dicks in

a rematch this November.

WFRW Day At The Capitol took

place on a beautiful day on the 8thof February. Pictured here areJuDian Guimbellot, MarlynJensen , Diana Landahl, and BillLandahl.

WFRW Day At The Capitol

On Feb. 8, 2010,Republican Women clubs

from all over Washington

State gathered in Olympia.

The GHRW held its

General Meeting in

Olympia at 9 am to hear

Sharon  Hanek, President

of the Puyallup

Republican Women.

Shegave information on:

Grassroots Strategies,

Understanding Bills, How

to Testify and Working

with Legislators. Because

of Sharonʼs experience,

she gave us lots of hintson what to do and not do.

Following the

information period, we

adjourned to a room

where our lunches were

waiting for us.  While we

were there, numerous

members of the State

Legislature, both theHouse and the Senate,

came to talk with us. Each legislator gave a

brief talk and answered

some questions.

After the meeting with

Legislators, we adjourned

to the main foyer in the

Capitol building and posedfor a large group picture.  I

hope it is a color picture,

since  all of us were

wearing bright Republican

red.

We then visited our

elected officials and left

a message  for them to

not rescind I-960, no newtax and cut spending.

It has become

disappointingly clear...that

the White House is more

interested in playing politics

than in fulfilling its promise

of bipartisanship.
