Woody Guthrie: His Life, Music & Life by Stan Paregien, Sr
ISBN: 9781301025206 Price: $2.99 USD. 306 pages. Words: 110,670. Language:
American English. Published: September 29, 2012. Category: Nonfiction,
Americana, history, music, biography of Woody Guthrie, Oklahoma history.
This eBook is a carefully researched study of the life, music and myth of famed
singer-songwriter Woody Guthrie.
Woody Guthrie was born and reared in the hardest of times. But as he became an
adult, he took advantage of America’s eagerness to mythologize the working man
into a grassroots hero (as in John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath). He adopted
the persona—the music, the speech, the look and the habits--of the poor working
class he observed in his travels. He hardly ever stepped out from behind that
image, though he was in fact an intellectual with a gift for writing poetry, novels,
and songs that connected with the young and the old, the educated elite and the
nearly illiterate.
The Okie from Okemah, Oklahoma may one day be seen as one of the most
creative persons in the world. Though he died way too young, he left a treasure
chest filled with his songs and poetry, his books of fiction, his cartoons and
artwork, and his large number of audio recordings. Without question, he was the
most prolific writer of folk songs America has ever seen.
His work was amazing, both in its volume and its variety. In a little over a 17-year
span, Woody produced two novels, over 500 cartoons, several oil paintings, some
3,000 lyrics and poems, and hundreds of audio recordings. And others may yet be
discovered.

The Day Jesus Died By Stan Paregien, Sr Price: Free, for a limited time! ISBN: 9781301302468 100 pages. Words: 46,350. Language: English. Published:
January 4, 2013. Category: Nonfiction, religion, truth, atheism, hope, gospel.
This eBook is Version 2.0 of a book of Stan Paregien's which was originally
published in hardback in 1970. It grew out of his research, writing, sermons and
life's experiences during his years as the preaching minister of the University
Church of Christ in Las Cruces, NM. It deals with such still-current topics as the
importance of truth, atheism, racism and the meaning of the gospel.
Thoughts on Unity by Stan Paregien, Editor
This manuscript was first published as a hardback by W. Carl Ketcherside and his
Mission Messenger press of St. Louis, Missouri in 1971. The Ketcherside family
kindly had a Kindle version published on Amazon.com on March 28, 2013. For
now, it is only available at www.amazon.com. ASIN: B00C4L9E2I 321 pages.
First published in 1971, Thoughts on Unity addresses the paradoxically divided
state of a Christian unity movement that began at the end of the first decade of the
nineteenth century. It also provides valuable insight into the thinking of
recognized Christian leaders of varying hermeneutical perspectives as they
grapple with the difficulties that have dogged the movement almost from its
inception. The book further illustrates the subtle nature of the impediments that
confront any effort to unite men and women upon a consensus of interpretation of
scripture which they regard as normative for their lives.
What has happened throughout most of the two hundred year history of the Stone-
Campbell restoration movement, however, is instructive not only for the heirs of
that movement, but for anyone seeking to better understand the obstacles that
continue to prevent a credible witness before an unbelieving world to the abiding
reality that is in Jesus.
From the 1971 edition publisher, W. Carl Ketcherside: "This book gathers up into
one compact volume the best thinking of those men in our day. It represents
recommendations from the most legalistic to the most liberal, as it should. There
has been no attempt to sift and exclude, or to seek for conformity to any school of
thought or point of view. Indeed, the thesis is accepted that, in this time of
intellectual ferment, the astute reader, given all of the facts, will be able to form his
own convictions and be responsible for them. This is the first time that all of these
writers have appeared together inside the covers of a single volume. It is doubtful
if all of them would consent to appear together physically upon the same platform,
but here they can be heard and their presentation can be examined at leisure. And
from unbiased scrutiny there may be kindled a flame of concern which will glow
with sufficient intensity to light the pathway to a closer walk together in the
decades which lie ahead."

A Note from Stan
Marketing is always the hardest part of any self-published book. Each of us only
has so many friends and acquaintances . . . and no money to spend on a big
advertising campaign.
So I simply ask that you share this "flyer" with other folks you know who like to
read. That's it. Simple, but it will be a big help.
Thanks for your interest in my eBooks.
