Scouting The Bulls: USF currently sits at 6-12 on the season, including 0-5 in BIGEAST action. In their most recent game, the Bulls were deeated, 74-66, at Cincin

nati on January 12. The leading scorers or the Bulls are junior orward AugustusGilchrist and sophomore guard Jawanza Poland, who are averaging 12.9 and

10.2 points per game, respectively. Junior orward Ron Anderson, Jr., is the leading rebounder, pulling down 7.6 boards per game, while junior guard AnthonyCrater leads the squad in assists at 3.7 per game. Head Coach Stan Heath is in his

2010-11 Providence Basketballmeetings in the series, however, USF won the last two meetings, both last season. On January 23, 2010, the Bulls took a 109-105

overtime victory at the Dunkin Donuts Center, then captured the rematch in Tampa, Fla., 99-93. The last Friar win was February 102009, a 77-62 win at the Sun Dome.

On-Deck:The Friars return home to play the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday, January 22 at 5 p.m. on ESPNU at the Dunkin' DonutsCenter.

Providence Versus Louisville: The Friars and the Cardinals have met 14 times in the all-times series, with Louisville leading, 10-4PC has posted a 2-4 mark all-time at home against Louisville, a 0-5 record at Louisville and a 2-1 record on neutral courts against theCardinals. 2010-11 Providence BasketballAmong The Leaders: Providence eatures some o the BIG EAST's leaders in the three mainstatistical categories o scoring, rebounding and assists. Senior guard Marshon Brooks (StoneMountain, Ga.) is second in the league in scoring at 23.2 ppg, just behind Connecticut's Kemba

Walker, who is averaging 25.3 ppg. Sophomore guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is leadingthe BIG EAST in assists with 6.44 per game, while sophomore orward Bilal Dixon (Jersey City,

N.J.) ranks ourth in the league in rebounding, with 8.1 per game. Brooks also leads the BIGEAST in scoring in BIG EAST games, averaging 23.4 ppg in our league games.

Friars All-Time Versus Top-25 Teams: Providence's game versus No. 5 Pittsburgh on January 4was the team's second contest this season against a ranked opponent. The Friars have posted

a 98-220 (.308) mark all-time versus top-25 teams. PC's most recent win over a ranked teamwas an 81-66 win over No. 19/19 Connecticut on January 27, 2010 at Providence. The Friars' last

win over a ranked team on the road was a 66-56 win at No. 4/4 UConn on January 24, 2004.

Friars Need Three Wins To Reach 1,300: Providence has posted a 1,297-864 mark in 84seasons, good or an even .600 winning percentage. The Friars need three more wins to reach1,300 victories. The Friars' 1,200th win was on November 26, 2004, when they scored a victory

over Michigan at Madison Square Garden in the consolation game o the Preseason NIT.

Council Adds 10 Assists Versus Pittsburgh: Sophomore guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn,

N.Y.) added 10 assists in the Friars loss to No. 5 Pittsburgh on January 4. For Council it markedthe ourth time this season he has recorded 10 or more assists in a game. He is averaging6.4 assists per contest to lead the BIG EAST. For the season, he has registered 116 assists. He

currently is on pace to fnish with 200 assists this season, which would rank eighth all-time atProvidence College.

History-Making Pace For Brooks: Senior guard Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) hasscored 20 or more points in 13 o the Friars' 18 games this season. He also has scored 20 or

more points in 11 o the last 12 games and is currently averaging 23.2 points per game. TheFriars have a minimum o 14 games remaining this season (13 regular season games, with

at least one post-season game). I he continues to score at this pace, he will fnish with 741points or the season. This scoring total would be the ourth highest in a single season or aFriar. Jimmy Walker scored 851 points (30.4 ppg) in 1966-67, Eric Murdock scored 818 (25.6

ppg) in 1990-91 while Ernie DiGregorio scored 761 (24.6 ppg) in 1972-73.

Brooks Leads Squad In Scoring: Senior guard Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) is leadingthe team in scoring through 18 games, averaging 23.2 points. Brooks also is one o the team's

leading rebounders, averaging 8.0 rebounds per game. That is a signifcant increase over the 3.2 boards per game he averaged ovehis frst three seasons at Providence. He has twice scored a career-high 33 points this season, frst against Brown (December 6), thenagainst Alabama (December 11).

Brooks Records Another Double-Double: Senior Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) entered the season having played 81 games

during his frst three seasons at Providence. During that time he did not register a double-double. However, Brooks has picked uphis play this season registering a double-double six times, including 25 points and 12 rebounds in the Friars win over Sacred Heart

on December 21. He also has scored in double fgures in scoring in all 18 o the Friars games this season. Brooks has scored 20 or

more points in 14 o the last 16 games.

Brooks Reaches 1,000 Career Points: Senior Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) reached 1,000 points or his career in the winover Rhode Island on Saturday, December 4. Brooks hit a layup with 15:36 to go in the frst hal to reach the mark. He fnished with a

game-high 26 points. Ater 18 games this season, he sits at 1,258 career points. Brooks now has played 99 career games at Providenceand is averaging 12.7 points per game or his career. Brooks is the 43rd player in Providence history to reach 1,000-point mark. He

ranks 22nd on Providence's all-time scoring list.

Brooks Named Player Of The Week: Senior guard Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) was named BIG EAST Player o the Week

on December 13. Brooks helped the Friars to a 2-1 mark on the week. He posted 33 points and eight rebounds in the win over Brownon December 6. Brooks ollowed that up with 28 points and 10 rebounds in the loss at Boston College on December 8. He then

duplicated the 33 point, eight rebound perormance in the win over Alabama on December 11. It marks the frst BIG EAST player o

Coleman Tabbed Rookie Of The Week: Freshman guard Gerard Coleman (Boston,

Mass.) was named BIG EAST Rookie o the Week on Monday, November 29. Coleman

earned the honor ater averaging 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists as theFriars posted a 1-1 mark in two games at the Cancun Challenge in November. Cole-

more points in 16 games, including a career-high 29 points in the Friars game versusWyoming on November 24. He also is one o the teams top three-point threats (24-79) as he is shooting 30 percent rom behind the arc. Last season, Council averaged

Council Adds 16 Assists:Sophomore guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered16 assists in the win over Brown on December 6. The total ties the Providence record

or assists in one game, matching Vin Ernst's 16 assists against Catholic University onFeb. 9, 1963. It marks the frst time a Friar has recorded at least 15 assists in once gamesince Jim Larranaga dished out 15 against Virginia Commonwealth on December 8,

Starting From The Start: When reshman guard Gerard Coleman started in the season-opener against Dartmouth, he became the16th true reshman to start in their frst career game. Coleman's 17 points against the Big Green is the most by a reshman in a seasonopening game. The last time it occurred was 2005-06, when Geo McDermott started in the opener against Vermont. McDermott

scored 13 points, while adding nine rebounds and three assists in the 87-77 Friar victory. Council joins McDermott as one o only sixFriar true reshmen to start in the season's frst game and score in double-fgures.

The Name Game: This season, the Friars eature one o the more unusual name combinations in the country, as they have student

athletes with the frst name Brice and Bryce on the roster. Freshmen Brice Koane (Yaounde, Cameroon) and Bryce Cotton (TucsonAriz.) orm the unique combination. The odds o a team (NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA Divisions I and II) eaturing such a combination are 1-in-1,277 (1,277 represents the number o teams across the NCAA and NAIA divisions). Amazingly, another team eatured

the combination last season, as Dakota State, an NAIA institution in Madison, S.D., had Brice Christensen and Bryce Snyder on itsroster. The odds are overwhelmingly against two teams having such a combination in the same season, with that number coming

in at 1-in-1,629,452.

Providence College Basketball: 2010-11 is the 84th season o basketball at Providence College. Since the program started in 192627, Providence has posted a 1,297-864 mark, good or an even .600 winning percentage. During their 84 seasons, the Friars havemade the NCAA Tournament 15 times and the National Invitation Tournament on 18 occasions.

BIG EAST Preseason Poll:Providence was picked 14th in the 2010 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. It was announced at the annua

BIG EAST Media Day at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, October 20. Pittsburgh was picked as the avorite to win the leaguesecuring 12-o-16 frst place votes. Syracuse received two frst place votes, while Villanova and St. John's each received one. It also was

announced at media day that the coaches had selected Georgetown's Austin Freeman as Preseason Player o the Year, while Fab Meloo Syracuse was selected as the Preseason Rookie o the Year. Coaches are not permitted to vote or their own players or teams.

New Kids On The Block: The 2010-11 Providence men's basketball team is among the youngest in the country, with 11 newcomersThe Friars are, in act, the youngest team in the BIG EAST, as Keno Davis' squad has 11 players in their frst year o eligibility, with nine

true reshmen (Ted Bancrot, Gerard Coleman, Bryce Cotton, Dre Evans, Ron Giplaye, Lee Goldsbrough, Brice Koane, Mike Murray andTom Niemeier) and two returners who did not exhaust a year o eligibility in their frst season at

Providence (Kadeem Batts and Xavier Davis). No other BIG EAST team has more than six playerswho will start the season with all our years o eligibility remaining (Connecticut, Pittsburgh

and Syracuse each return six). By contrast, St. John's will return the most experienced squadin the league, as the Red Storm bring in only one reshman to play along side 10 seniors.

Future Friars: Providence College mens basketball coach Keno Davis announced on Novem-ber 10, 2010 that student-athletes Kyan Anderson (Crowley, Texas) and Markus Crider (Huber

Heights, Ohio) each signed a National Letter o Intent to attend Providence College beginningin September 2011. Anderson, a 5-oot-11-inch, 165-pound point guard attends North Crowley

High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Last season, Anderson led North Crowley to a 33-5 mark.During his three seasons at North Crowley, Anderson has helped the team post a 104-12 mark.As a junior, he averaged 21.1 points, 6.2 assists, 4.0 steals and 2.4 rebounds per game. Anderson

established a school record by scoring 48 points in a game last season. Following the 2010season, he was named to the Dallas Morning News All-Area Team and earned Fort Worth Star

Telegrams Player o the Year honors. Crider, a 6-oot-6-inch, 205-pound orward attends WayneHigh School in Ohio. As a junior, he averaged 15.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8

blocks per game. He led his team to a 20-3 record and the Greater Western Ohio Conerence

Friar Legends Forever: Beore the Cincinnati game at the Dunkin' Donuts

Center on Saturday, February 19, the college will honor teammates Ray Flynn`63 and the late Vinnie Ernst `63, by unveiling banners in the raters o the

Dunk with their names and numbers (14 and 10, respectively). Flynn and Ernstwill become the eighth and ninth members o the Friar basketball amily to behonored as part o the Friar Legends Forever Tradition, which began in 1996.

To earn the honor, the player or coach must have made a signifcant impacton Friar basketball and he must have received national recognition during his

career at Providence. Other honorees include Lenny Wilkens 60, Jimmy Walker`67, Marvin Barnes `74 Ernie DiGregorio `73, John Egan 61 as well as coaches

Joe Mullaney and Dave Gavitt.

Hall of Fame:The Providence College Athletic Department will induct nine mem-

bers into the Athletic Hall o Fame on Friday, March 4, 2011. The 2011 inducteesare John Evans (men's cross country/track), Siobhan Gallagher (women's cross

College All-Stars School Rewards program. The program is geared toward rewarding academic achievement with tickets to Friarmen's basketball games. On Thursday, October 28, Dre Evans and Kadeem Batts visited St. Kevin's School in Warwick, R.I. to talk with

fth through eighth grade students. On Thursday, October 7, Ray Hall, Bilal Dixon, Gerard Coleman, Bryce Cotton and Brice Koanevisited Kent Hospital in Warwick, R.I. The student-athletes shadowed doctors and nurses to learn about various aspects o the health

care feld, while also having the opportunity to meet with patients. On Thursday, September 30, Koane visited Ashaway ElementarySchool in Chariho, R.I., to talk with third and ourth graders.

2010-11 Providence Basketball Head Coach Keno Davis

On April 15, 2008, the Keno

Davis era began at Providence Col-lege. The 36-year-old Davis became

the 14th head coach o the Collegesstoried mens basketball program.

It is an honor to now be a part

o Providence College basketball

and it is a dream come true or meto be in the BIG EAST, Davis saidater being introduced as the new

head coach at the College. I wantto make Providence and the entirestate o Rhode Island excited about

college basketball. I think its at a tip-ping point where we can do something special here!

Davis quickly got to work as he guided the Friars to a 19-14mark in 2008-09. Although the Friars were picked 12th in the

2009 BIG EAST Preseason Poll, the squad posted a 10-8 record inleague play and fnished tied or seventh. As he led the team to19 victories, he established a Providence College record or the

most wins by a head coach in his frst season. The teams 19 overallwins and 10 BIG EAST victories marked the most by the Friars since

the 2004 season. During the regular season, he saw his team earntwo victories over top-15 teams, including an 81-73 win over No. 1

ranked Pittsburgh. It marked just the second time that the Friarsdeeated a No. 1 ranked team and the frst time in 33 years. Davis

also led the team to a win over DePaul in the second round o theBIG EAST Tournament -- the teams frst BIG EAST tourney victorysince 2003. He also led the team back to the post-season as the

Friars earned an at-large bid to the NIT Tournament.In 2009-10 Davis' team was one o the top oensive squads

in the country, scoring 82.4 points per game and ranking third in

the nation in that category.Davis came to PC ater spending the 2007-08 season as thehead coach at Drake University. Davis, a 1995 graduate o theUniversity o Iowa, was named the 2008 National Coach o the

Year by six organizations, including the Associated Press, the U.S.Basketball Writers Association and The Sporting News.

In making the appointment, Providence College PresidentReverend Brian Shanley, O.P. said, We are very excited to have

Keno Davis leading our mens basketball program. We were look-ing or someone who could inspire and I believe he will. Kenotalked to us about developing the right kind o character in his

players and as a priest and a teacher, the thing I care about mostwith respect to athletics is not winning, but its building character.

I believe that we have a coach who will build the character o ourstudent-athletes. And, oh yes, he will win!

In his frst season as a head coach, Davis led the Drake Bull-dogs to a 28-5 mark, which included a 15-3 record in the MissouriValley Conerence. His team captured its frst MVC regular season

title since 1971 and its frst ever MVC Tournament title. Drakebecame the frst MVC school to win both the regular season and

league tournament titles since 2002. For his eorts, he was namedthe Missouri Valley Conerence Coach o the Year. The Bulldogs

also made their frst trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1971.Drake was deeated in the First Round o the NCAA Tournamentby Western Kentucky, 101-99, in overtime.

During the 2008 season, Drake was nationally ranked or a

school-record eight consecutive weeks. The Bulldogs fnishedranked 14th in the Associated Press Poll and 23rd in the ESPN/

USA Today Coaches Poll. Davis had all this success in his frstseason ater inheriting a team that was 17-15 in 2007 and lost

our starters to graduation. His 2008 squad was picked to fnishninth in the MVC.

I believe Keno Davis has the knowledge, passion, commitment and ability to bring Providence College basketball to anothelevel, Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll said

Throughout his career he has demonstrated that he is an excellent leader and teacher. From the frst moment I met Keno, I was

impressed with his competitive nature and his desire to returnFriar basketball to national prominence. His hiring is one o themany steps we have taken to improve the Friar mens basketbal

program.Prior to being selected as the head coach at Drake, Davis

served as an assistant under his ather, Dr. Tom Davis, at Drakerom 2003-07. He began his coaching career in 1995 as an as-

sistant under Bruce Pearl at Southern Indiana. He let SouthernIndiana in 1997 and took an assistant position under Gary Garneat Southeast Missouri State. He was at Southeast Missouri State

or six seasons.Although he never lived in Rhode Island prior to becoming

the Friars head coach, Davis was no stranger to New EnglandIn act, he spent much o his childhood just one hour rom the

Ocean State as he lived on Commonwealth Avenue in NewtonMassachusetts adjacent to the Boston College campus. Davisather, Tom, served as the head coach o the Eagles rom 1977

82. While living in Massachusetts, Keno Davis grew to love NewEngland and appreciate college basketball. He also saw the early

days o the BIG EAST and has watched closely as the league has

become a basketball powerhouse.Keno Davis was exposed to basketball at a very young age ashe watched his ather as a head coach. Dr. Tom Davis is one o thewinningest coaches all-time in the NCAA. In 32 seasons as a head

coach at Laayette (1971-77), Boston College (1977-82), Stanord(1982-86), Iowa (1986-99) and Drake (2003-07), he registered a

598-355 mark (.628), which included 18 post-season appearanceand 16 20-win seasons. He also was named the 1987 Associated

Press National Coach o the Year. When Keno earned the samehonor in 2007, it marked the frst time ever that a ather and son

duo had captured the national coach o the year honor.Keno Davis has written two books on basketball, Pressure

Deense, which was published in 1994, and Camp Success,

published in 2004.Davis and wie, Krista, have one son, Brady, who was born in

2007 and they have one daughter, Mara, who was born in 2010
