FROM THE DIRECTORS PODIUM DATES TO KNOW Check PopeBand.com for the full band calendar. Many thanks to all of the folks who made our 8 th grade visitation experi- ence a success! It is a huge undertaking to bring nearly 100 additional students into the mix for a rehearsal and football game. The amount of planning, logistics, and supervision needed is massive. Now that we have had the experience together and met our potential future members, we need to keep up the communication and encour- agement for them to be a part of our high school band. Please speak with the 8 th grade families every chance you get. If you are part of the same outside of school activities, take a moment to share with them the benefits of high school band. Historically, we have had numerous 8 th graders tell us “I don’t want to do high school band”. Once we get them to give it a try, they are hooked and participate throughout the next four years. Some of them even have gone on to become music teachers! At the very least, sug- gest to those who are uncertain that they give it a one year trial. They earn elective credit, and they get to experience band first-hand before making a final decision on the next three years participation. Remember… high school band is not “just like middle school band”. There are new opportunities, new experiences, and a lot of new friends to be made. Spread the word! We would love to see the majority of the 8 th graders continue in the Pope Band Program! son Ferry on Friday 10/27 between 4–7 p.m. Road Runner will pay us $1.49 for each packet picked up, and picking up your packet early will get you a raffle ticket! This year we will be having Lifetouch coming to Pope to have professional pictures taken of all March-ing Band and Guard members! We will be having these pictures taken in the Pope band room starting at 4:00 on Tuesday, October 24, right before the Community Show. This is a great opportunity for you to get a professional picture of your Band/Guard student in full uniform with instrument/flag. As the pictures are being taken by the same company that photographed the band as a group, they are offering an 8x10 “Sports Mate” option of a solo portrait of your student paired with the band group picture. Printed flyers will be coming home in early October, but please feel free to browse and preorder your portrait package here: www.lifetouchsports.com Picture Day ID#: AG017895X1. All CMB and FNB students will be photographed. Lifetouch is also contributing a portion of portrait sales back to the PBPA!Student not in marching band or guard? Stay tuned for picture day for all concert band students in the spring! Any questions? Please contact Leslie Ann Dunn at [email protected].
