• Not provided is labelling by means of software which is not approved by Murrplastik.

• Not provided is labelling of paper.

3.3 Choosing an installation site

• Position the unit on a level, stable surface that is larger than the unit itself. The unit will not operate properly if it is tipped up or tilted.

• Avoid using locations where the printer will be exposed to extreme fluctuations of temperature or humidity. Protect the unit from direct sunlight, excessive light and sources of heat.

• Avoid using sites that might be exposed to impacts or vibrations.

• Keep the unit away from dusty areas.

• Position the unit near to a mains socket, so that no extension cable is required if possible.

• When transporting or storing the printer, it must not be tipped up, stood on one of its sides or turned upside down. Otherwise, the unit may leak ink.

3.4 Using the device

While the printer is printing, keep your hands out of the machine and do not touch the ink cartridges. There is a risk of injury!

• Do not move the print head by hand – if you do, you may damage the

equipment.

• Do not block the housing openings.

• Do not cover the housing openings.

• Do not insert any objects into these slots.

• Avoid spilling any liquids onto the unit at all times.

• Always use the power cable supplied with this unit. If a different power cable is used it can potentially cause fires or electrical shocks.

• Connect all parts of the system to mains sockets that have been properly earthed. No mains socket may be used if items of equipment such as photocopiers or fans are already plugged into it, and these units are regularly switched on and off.

• Do not connect the printer to switchable or timer-controlled mains sockets.

• Do not connect socket boards or extension cables in series

• Do not use the computer system near areas of potential electromagnetic interference, such as may be generated by loudspeakers or cordless telephone base stations.

• Note that the type of electricity source used must match the details on the equipment’s label.

• Do not use any power cable if it is damaged.

Page 8: p³b operating instructions - Murrplastik Systemtechnikiframe.murrplastik.de/.../p3b_operating_instructions_0632HA_8902865309.pdf · 3.3 Choosing an installation site • Position

8

• If you use an extension lead socket with this unit, take care to ensure that the total power consumed by the connected equipment does not exceed the maximum permitted power consumption for the extension lead socket.

• Also take care to ensure that the total power consumed by the equipment connected to a wall outlet does not exceed the maximum permitted power consumption for the affected mains socket.

• Do not attempt to service the device yourself.

• Isolate the unit from mains power and request servicing from a qualified service technician, if any of the following scenarios occur:

- The power cable or plug is damaged.

- Liquids have leaked into the unit.

- The unit has suffered a fall or its housing is damaged.

- The unit is not working properly or its performance is impaired.

• If the printer is operated within Germany, please observe the following:

- The building’s electrical installation must be protected using a circuit breaker (10 A or 16 A), so as to ensure an adequate level of protection against short-circuiting and overvoltage.

- If the mains plug has become damaged, replace the cabling or contact a qualified technician. The fuses built into the mains plug must only be replaced with fuses of the same form factor and the same rated value.

- If you use a cable to connect the printer to a computer or a different piece of equipment, check to ensure the proper alignment of the plug connectors. Each connector can be plugged only when aligned in a certain way. If you try to plug a connector when it is wrongly aligned, then both pieces of equipment connected by the cable may be damaged.

9

• Always turn the unit off by using the power button on the control panel. When you press this key, the mains LED lights up briefly. Do not disconnect the power plug until the mains LED light has gone out.

3.5 Ink cartridge handling

• Always store ink cartridges out of the reach of children. Cartridge contents are not edible.

• If you get ink on your skin, clean it off using soap and water. If ink should get into your eyes, wash it out immediately with plenty of water.

• Shake new ink cartridges four or five times before opening the package.

• After opening the packaging, ink cartridges must not be shaken, since otherwise ink may leak out.

• Use the ink cartridge before the date printed on the packaging.

• Do not attempt to take the ink cartridges apart or to refill them. This can damage the print head.

• Do not touch the green IC chip on the side of the ink cartridge. This can have an adverse effect on normal operation and the printing process.

• The IC chip on this ink cartridge contains a large number of cartridge-specific details, such as e. g. information about the ink cartridge status. This ensures that the ink cartridge can be removed and replaced as many times as necessary. Note, however, that ink is consumed every time a cartridge is inserted into the unit, since the printer always performs a self-test.

• If you remove an ink cartridge in order to use it later, make sure that you protect the ink outlet from dust and dirt, and store the cartridge somewhere near the printer. The ink outlet features a valve, which avoids the need for covers or plugs. If the cartridge comes into contact with an object, however, ink may leak out and cause staining.

Page 10: p³b operating instructions - Murrplastik Systemtechnikiframe.murrplastik.de/.../p3b_operating_instructions_0632HA_8902865309.pdf · 3.3 Choosing an installation site • Position

10

• Do not touch the ink outlet or the area around it.

• Do not remove or pull on the label, because this may cause ink to leak out.

• Always install an ink cartridge immediately after opening the packaging. If the ink cartridge is unpacked and then left out for a while before being used, it may then be impossible to print with it.

• Always store ink cartridges with the label at the top. Do not store ink cartridges upside down (label at the bottom).

Cartridge ink information:

The inks used in the cartridges are ECO solvent inks. These inks do not release any harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the workplace. Specialised air purification systems are therefore not required. The use of milder solvent agents in the inks causes less wear on the print heads, and reduces expenditure for servicing and cleaning.

3.6 Repairing the unit

• Do NOT attempt to repair the equipment yourself. The opening or removal of covers can lead to contact with parts conducting dangerous electrical current and other hazards, as well as voiding product warranties. Contact the manufacturer or a customer service point authorised by the manufacturer.

• If the unit has suffered a fall or the housing is damaged, unplug the unit from the mains and contact the manufacturer or a customer service point authorised by the manufacturer. Otherwise there is a risk of electrical shock.

• If the unit becomes unusually hot, starts producing smoke or unusual odours or if you spill liquids onto the equipment by mistake, then you must unplug the unit from the mains immediately. Contact the manufacturer or a customer service point authorised by the manufacturer.

Page 11: p³b operating instructions - Murrplastik Systemtechnikiframe.murrplastik.de/.../p3b_operating_instructions_0632HA_8902865309.pdf · 3.3 Choosing an installation site • Position

11

• If the unit no longer works properly, although it has been used in accordance with the usage instructions, then configure the unit's settings only as described in these usage instructions. Incorrect changes made to other control elements can damage the unit, and often require time-consuming work to be performed by qualified technicians in order to restore the normal operating condition of the equipment.

In chapter 16 you will find detailed instructions for returning defective devices for repair.

3.7 Radio interference This product complies with Directive EN 55022 (CISPR Publication 22)/Class B. If you connect the equipment to a computer, take care to ensure that you use a USB cable that is not more than 3 m long.

exchangeable base plate (b). These are used to position the label plate frames precisely for printing. The carrier plate can hold up to six base plates.

3. Now lay out the label plate

frames (d).

Ensure, that the labels do not tower up. This may cause blocking of the print head during operation respectively down-grade printing results.

4. Retract the carrier plate. To do

so, push the carrier plate gently into the printer until automatic retraction takes place.

Now the printer is ready for printing.

IMPORTANT! The carrier plate must be pushed inside the device BEFORE a print job is sent.

16 Shipping instructions for return In case it becomes necessary to return the p³b for whatever reason (e. g. service, repair) it is essential to observe the following points:

• The device must not be shipped with full waste ink tank. The ink tank must be emptied and reinserted correctly resp. replaced by the empty ink tank supplied. Optionally a piece of absorbent fabric can be placed inside the tank before reinserting it to collect possible remaining drops of ink. The ink must be disposed of properly according to the legal instructions.

• Please re-close the air vents of the ink cartridges with the corresponding plug. After this the cartridges can remain in the printer.

• The device must be switched off correctly with the mains switch to ensure the cartridge unit is moved in its stand-by position to the right correctly. In no case switch off the device by unplugging the mains cable.

• The aluminum base plates (GPx) may remain at the sender. This applies to a possible sheet labels base plate as well. The grey base plate should be fastened additionally with some adhesive tape.

• Unscrew the red canopy and place it in the packaging board as previously supplied (use styrofoam packaging).

• Position the carrier plate as previously supplied as well. • Whenever possible use original packaging (styrofoam parts included)

for return shipments or any equivalent and proper packaging.

• The device must always be shipped in a horizontal position. Any other position is not permitted. Add a corresponding advice on the packaging board.

For any damage or dirt of the device due to failure in observing these instructions there is no liability whatsoever.

Important advice for customers/senders! All return shipments must be in compliance with these instructions.
