    Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

    VOL. 4 FEBRUARY 11-12, 2012ISSUE

    Welcome to Good Shepherd Chapel

    Scripture

The one who bears the sore of leprosy shall keep his garments rent and his head bare, and shall mu

    beard (Leviticus 13:45)

Blessed the man to whom the LORD imputes not guilt, in whose spirit there is no guile. (Psalm 32:

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, If you wish, you can ma

    clean. (Mark 1:40)

Reflection Does everyone bear the sore of leprosy? Is anyone unable of being cleansed?

Who is free from guile (duplicity)?

How is the leper transformed? How did he know that Jesus would make him clean?

How do you imitate Christ and then become Christlike?

Again, that expression, le point vierge, (I cannot translate it) comes in here. At the center of our being is of nothingness which is untouched by sin and by illusion, a point of pure truth, a point or spark whilongs entirely to God, which is never at our disposal, from which God disposes of our lives, which is ina

ble to the fantasies of our own mind or the brutalities of our own will. This little point of nothingness absolute poverty is the pure glory of God in us. It is so to speak His name written in us, as our poverty, indigence, as our dependence, as our sonship. It is like a pure diamond, blazing with the invisible light of hIt is in everybody, and if we could see it we would see these billions of points of light coming togethe

face and blaze of a sun that would make all the darkness and cruelty of life vanish completely. . . . I hprogram for this seeing. It is only given. But the gate of heaven is everywhere.1

Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enfoment officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomand Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the enthe day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly

    pared to tackle: fatherhood.

While they consistently give their best on the job, good enseems to be all they can muster as dads. But they're quidiscovering that their standard is missing the mark.

When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a nfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God ... and to

    children?

Filled with action-packed police drama, COURAGEOUS ifourth film from Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking minof Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. Viewersonce again find themselves laughing, crying, and cheerinthey are challenged and inspired by everyday heroes who to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their

    dren.

Protecting the streets is second nature to these men. Raitheir children in a God-honoring way? That's courageous.

This Saturday February 11th, we Catholics celebrate the first apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1858 to fourteen-yeMarie Bernade (St. Bernadette) Soubirous. Between February 11 and July 16, 1858, the Blessed Virgin appeared eighteen tand showed herself to St. Bernadette in the hollow of the rock at Lourdes. On March 25, she said to the little shepherdesswas only fourteen years of age: "I am the Immaculate Conception." Since then Lourdes has become a place of pilgrimagmany cures and conversions have taken place. The message of Lourdes is a call to personal conversion, prayer, and charity.

The many miracles that have been performed through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin at Lourdes prompted the Cto institute a special commemorative feast, the "Apparition of the Immaculate Virgin Mary." The Office gives the hist

background. Four years after the promulgation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception (1854), the Blessed Virgin appa number of times to a very poor and holy girl named Bernadette. The actual spot was in a grotto on the bank of the Gave near Lourdes.

The Immaculate Conception had a youthful appearance and was clothed in a pure white gown and mantle, with an azuregirdle. A golden rose adorned each of her bare feet. On her first apparition, February 11, 1858, the Blessed Virgin bade thmake the sign of the Cross piously and say the rosary with her. Bernadette saw her take the rosary that was hanging from

arms into her hands. This was repeated in subsequent apparitions. Excerpted from The Church's Year of Grace, Pius Pars

    Movie Review

How To Have Joy That Is Contagious? The Christian Principle of Joy is a Fruit of the Spirit

oy is not the same as happiness. Happiness can be attained with a newly acquired object, a car, or cloth-

g or appliance, for example. A sunny day can make someone happy, or a bouquet of flowers. Usually

appiness is a result of something external. But joy is internal. It is not an emotion, but an inner apprecia-

on and sense of satisfaction due to a spiritual reality.

For every Christian, the number one desire should be

to experience joy even in the face of negative circum-

stances. In Hebrews chapter 12, believers who aretempted to become weary or discouraged. They are

urged to recall examples of faith demonstrated by

God's people who preceded them, taking into consid-

eration all they endured and especially remembering

Jesus Christ. "let us lay aside every weight, and the

sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with

endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto

Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the

joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despis-

g the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

esus believed God's promise in Psalm 16:10: "For You will not leave my soul in Sheol (the grave), nor

ill You allow Your Holy One to see corruption." Jesus believed God would raise Him from death, andtimately fulfill the remaining future prophecies concerning Him. He knew that his sacrifice would pave

e way for the nations to come to God. Therefore Jesus could have joy inside. He did not focus on the

mmediate circumstances, he looked to the future, even while suffering an agonizing death on the cross.

aul brought the Word of God to Thessalonica. Some people gladly received the Word, but as Acts chap-

r 17 reveals, there was a group of legalistic Jews who were hostile. The resistance intensified to the point

at the entire city was rioting and out of control. The situation was so tense that Paul and Silas had to

ave in the middle of the night.

ater, Paul sent Timothy to check on the believers and was joyful to hear Timothy's positive report of their

eadfastness. For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your

ake before our God. (1 Thessalonians 3:9) Even in the midst of chaos and opposition, the believers were

yful. And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, withy of the Holy Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 1:6)

ather than external things being the cause of joy, the Bible shows that spiritual realities produce joy in a

eliever. In Psalm 16:11, the Psalmist writes, "In Your presence is fullness of joy."Being aware of God's

resence in every situation produces joy. On the night of Jesus' arrest, at the last meal he shared with His

sciples. Jesus taught them to retain the Word of truth, and then said His joy would remain in them, and

ey would experience fullness of joy (John 15:11). He also comforted them: "You now have sorrow; but I

ill see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you." (John 16:22)

Who knew a modern-made silent movie cou

    French director Michel Hazanavicius dis

plays a flair for re-creating the techniques o

Hollywood, from the lively musical score an

use of intertitles to the dramatic lighting and

good use of the studio back lot. He also draw

from his actors the pure emotions that can b

In this unique film, the sounds of silence
