CO-CHAIRS’ REPORTFoundationasStablePublicAdvocateandCatalyst

In many ways, the 2013 fiscal year symbolized the Pawtucket Foundation’s role as a stable public advocate and catalyst, able to maintain pursuit of our focused vision for the community. Early in the year, we appointed Aaron Hertzberg as our interim executive director, eventually promoting him to the position permanently. In making that choice, we valued his passion, skill-set and the continuity of leadership he offered in the middle of our three year enVision Pawtucket Strategic Plan.

Over the year, the Pawtucket Foundation maintained programming, completed phase II of our Riverfront Corridor Plan and continued advocacy

for beautification efforts, infrastructure investments and the restoration of the State Historic Tax Credits. We also saw the opening of the new I-95 Pawtucket River Bridge and experienced the excitement of its first lighting.

Major projects like the bridge remind us of the great opportunity that exists along our riverfront. The Riverfront Corridor Plan, theorized and led by the Pawtucket Foundation with the Cities of Pawtucket and Central Falls, helps us quantify our potential and prioritize investments to stimulate development and reshape our community.

This year marked our 10th Annual Awards Celebration, now a tradition not to be

missed by local business and community leaders. Also in its 10th year, Pawtucket Proud Day put volunteers to work cleaning-up our downtown and riverfront along side the City’s newly created beautification work-team. Our support of the Pawtucket Arts Festival and Pawtucket Foundation Prize Event helped to showcase Pawtucket’s vibrant, creative economy.

The work is difficult and time consuming. It requires bold-thinking, collaboration and assertiveness. The Pawtucket Foundation helps us to focus that energy. With the help of our members, partners, staff, board and volunteers, we will realize our shared vision for prosperity.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. SullivanCo-Chair

EXECUTIVE REPORTATimetoImplement&LookForward

At the midpoint of the Pawtucket Foundation’s FY12-14 enVision Pawtucket Strategic Plan, I am pleased to report that much has been accomplished. In 2013, we actively pursued the four priority goal areas and touched on each of the 6 planning districts outlined in the plan.

From a financial perspective, we have spent or budgeted over a half million dollars on programs and advocacy over the course of the three year plan. These dollars work to

maintain focus on public infrastructure enhancements, advocate for resources and promote development opportunities.

On Main Street, we formalized a new partnership with the Anchor Recovery Center to care for trees and clean up the streetscapes. In the Armory Arts District, we submitted a grant to fund branded banners and enhance gateways as outlined in the River Corridor Development Plan. Along the river corridor, we released a market analysis and worked to identify and prioritize public infrastructure investments to attract private development. Our networking events helped to maintain focus on Pawtucket and celebrate outstanding accomplishments in the community.

We completed the re-launch of the Pawtucket Foundation brand with new marketing materials,

membership packets and further disseminated the Experience Pawtucket message of live, work, visit via social media, events sponsorships, banners and bus ads.

Over FY14, the staff will be working to wrap up the projects outlined in the strategic plan. At the same time we have already begun discussing our next strategic plan. The board has challenged us to continue our planning efforts, but also increase our focus on placemaking and economic development activities that will show more immediate results. It is a challenge I welcome.

With the support and energy of our members, partners, board, staff and volunteers, we have a bright future ahead!
