  • Paws and Butterflies

From Mexico to the Amazon river there is a certain feeling for animals and spirits and healing that revolves around big spotted cats and jungle butterflies. The jaguar is a good hunter, likes the water and climbs trees and runs in the grass. It can help a healer find an elusive remedy. For the spirit world is a misty and beautiful jungle where trees have magic, and water speaks and people get confused.

Butterflies go to the secret places in the forest and appear now and then to teach the living. Some say they are our ancestors. The snake guards their spirit road.

    The Rainforest of the Amazon

Where the jaguars live, there is a dry season and a wet season. Snowy mountains on the west feed a great river called the Amazon. Trees block out the light from the forest floor and so it is rather bare with twigs and soil. Trunks rise high into the upper air, like a canopy over a bed. Eagles and sloths and butterflies know the sunshine and the clouds but the other animals prowl in the shade. Jungle vines called lianas droop over the paths and are tough and woody and must be cut with machetes. Insects whir and trill. The river chuckles quietly in its brown flood. Monkeys laugh and chatter. Parrots flash scarlet as they fly. People live along the shore, in thatched huts. They travel in wood canoes and cast nets for the fish. Not the biting ones such as the piranha. Those can kill a person. Anaconda snakes slither in the water, large enough to wrap around you and swallow you whole. Pink dolphins leap alongside your boat. It is a dangerous and beautiful world.

Jaguar Shamans In the Amazon forest there are tribes who have a mystical healer and fighter. He can see energy nobody else sees. He can see where the deer hides and the caiman lurks. He talks to the plants. To him their spirits appear as humans who peek out from behind the trees. Such healers need a protective spirit, especially one in the form of a cunning and powerful animal. Jaguars are very popular.

These humans paint their faces with black rosettes, and sing songs to bring a big cat near, and dance as if on four feet. They take the strong medicines such as ayahuasca and see visions. They dream of being cats on the hunt. They observe taboos. Jaguar teaches versatility, being able to run, climb and swim. It brings fierceness, patience, camouflage and strength. Jaguar defends its territory. Jaguar coughs and growls and sends others running in fright. Jaguar lazes in the sunshine, flopped over on its back, with its belly fur white and fluffy. Jaguar plays foolish and happy. Almost as silly as monkeys. Butterfly Teachers

When explorers reached the Amazon they were amazed by the incredible giant butterflies who would gently sit on their arms and drink their sweat. Beauty in exchange for salt. Many tales involve the idea of dead people becoming butterflies for a time, to watch over the living.

The butterflies travel together like a bright cloud, and to humans below it is as if they follow an invisible road.

To dream of walking along this road in the air is lucky, for it can bring you gifts of Power. Of knowledge and hope. But every gift has its price. The road is guarded by a huge anaconda snake. Very frightening. Dreamers had to get past. Jaguar power helped.

    White Eagles and Black Jaguars

In olden days in Mexico people joined brotherhoods. The White Eagles were of the day. The Black Jaguars were of the night. The lord of the black cats was a god named The Smoking Mirror, Tezcatlipoca. A master of sorcery. Dangerous. The lord of the eagles was a god named The Rainbow Serpent. The brother of Tezcatlipoca. Standing for justice and crop growth and all that was supportive and steady and good. You knew they would clash, right? Tezcatlipoca raged over Mexico, supported by priests, fed by many human sacrifices. The Rainbow fled southeast into Yucatan and became known as Quetzalcoatl, the Flying Serpent. And in the jungles the healers just revered the ordinary jaguars as usual.

I hope you enjoyed this brief look at two fascinating creatures and the environment where they dwell. Using this energy in your reiki I suggest you imagine butterflies coming near and a jaguar looking at you thoughtfully. The shamans use rattles and you could shake a can of pebbles if you like. Think of hunting and finding what is awry with your clients health. Think of being led by blue butterflies. Of being strong as a jungle cat. Think of a phrase to awaken these helpers in your mind.

How to heal with this attunement Just say aloud (name of system) once and let the energy flow through your hands and heal as you usually do. How to take down this attunement Just say aloud I am now accepting the attunement to (name of system) from (name of teacher) in a way that is good for my health and spirit. So be it. And relax for a few minutes. You may sense energy tingling in your hands or warmth, or if you close your eyes and let your mind drift away, you may see unusual pictures. It really doesnt matter. It works even if nothing is sensed at all. How to give this attunement

Just say aloud I now attune (name of student) to the energies of (name of system) in a way that is good for both of us, in health and spirit. So be it. Or you can put the attunement in a chi ball of imagined energy and let the student pull it down when convenient. Best wishes and love and light, Stewart
