HONOR VIRTUE INTEGRITY Paw Prints Chula Vista Learning Community Charter School TK – 5 th grade Principals’ Message Parents, Thank you parents for attending our community gathering on Friday January 30, 2015. This was an opportunity to come together as a community. Our students had an amazing time and parents helped a lot in making this a successful night. The administration and staff really appreciate your continue support. As any new year brings, CVLCC is preparing for next year’s registration. You will be receiving in the month of February the zone-transfer request, please submit this to CVLCC office as soon as possible. We are anticipating a high number of enrollments and would like to keep your spot secured. Registration day for new students only in Primary grades starts on Monday, March 16 th . We want to thank all the parents who attended curriculum nights. Our school continues to reflect on the different ways we are reaching out to parents to support our students and the work we want to accomplish as a school. Our goal is for our students to be college and career ready, critical thinkers and self-motivated. We need your help in making this happen. Our students need parents to stay actively involved in their education especially when they reach the upper grades. It is important that you maintain open communication with your child’s teacher. Make attending school events a priority. At CVLCC, events scheduled for parents are intended to support you so you can help your child. Our goal is for parents to be able to support their children at home with any information and strategies we provide here at school. We are strong believers that engaged parents make a big difference in the lives of their children. You will be proud as you see your child’s grades, behavior and attitude towards school improve. On Wednesday February 11 th , 2015, in lieu of the CVLCC Charter Board Meeting, please plan to attend the CVESD Board Meeting at 84 East J Street. The meeting begins at 6:00PM in the Dr. Lowell Billings Room. Approval of CVLCC High School construction is on the agenda. We look forward in seeing you there. Student Recognition

This month our students in grades 3rd to 5th will be taking an interim comprehensive assessment designed by the Smarter Balanced Assessment System. The Smarter Balanced Assessment System has three major components: end-of-year summative assessments designed for accountability purposes; a suite of tools and resources that support classroom-based formative assessment practices; and interim assessments designed to support teaching and learning throughout the year.

The items on the interim assessments are developed under the same conditions, protocols, and review procedures as those used in the summative assessments. Students in these grades will be able to log in online and access the interim assessment. We want our students to navigate through the test and practice the types of questions they will encounter when they take the summative assessment.

Chronic Absence

Student Recognition at CVLCC

Our school is really proud to celebrate students who are demonstrating the core values of the school and applying their effort and responsibility into the academics. We want to thank all the families who have attended our student recognition ceremonies. CVLCC wants to remind you that at the end of every quarter students are recognized in three different categories. Students who receive a 3.7 or higher GPA at the end of the grade-reporting period are recognized with a Director’s Academic Excellence Award. Students who show a tremendous improvement in the class are candidates to receive the Effort and Tenacity Award. Our third award is called the Heart Award. The Heart Award celebrates students who have demonstrated a positive impact on the Chula Vista/San Diego community.

CVLCC is proud to say that we rank in the three top spots for perfect attendance. We know that when students are at school they are successful, understand their role as a student, and have a strong foundation for future success. According to research, each year approximately one in ten students miss 10 percent or more school days. In some cases, in kindergarten and first grade, as many as 4 in 10 students will miss about a month of school, jeopardizing their academic foundation and future success. We want parents to understand the importance of students arriving on time everyday and being present at school. We are asking CVLCC parents to make school a priority.

Uniform Reminder:

Uniform at our school is not optional. We appreciate your compliance with the uniform policy. Make sure your child comes to school with all the proper attire. Jackets or sweaters need to align with our uniform policy.
