Hello All!
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather that has finally arrived here in
Wisconsin. I know we are!
Just a few things to consider this month...
The show season is in full swing and we are all busy at this time of year. But we
ask that you please help at Packerland, either by helping with a class, or orien-
tation, demonstrations or help with the outside work. Please let the trainers or
Kerry Tesch know if you're available and what your experience is. It is all very
much appreciated. Remember, this Club belongs to all of us and together we
can make it fun and inviting for all.
We are in desperate need of a Chairperson for the Northeast Wisconsin Dog
Show Classic tentatively on March 29, 30, 31 and April 1, 2018. Packerland Ken-
nel Club will have to give up our dates and turn them over to the Manitowoc
club if we can't find a chairperson. This would be a sad turn of events as this
show has been a cornerstone of the Wisconsin show season for many
years. Please let the board know if you would be able to fill this need, or know
someone who would be willing to take on this responsibility.
We are also in need of a volunteer to mow the lawn. Our only other option, if
we can't find a volunteer for this project, is to pay someone to come and do
the work for us. I'm sure Lizer Lawn Care would do it, but for a price. They are
plowing our parking lot in the winter free of charge in exchange for letting their
employees park in our lot. Please let us know it you would be willing to provide
this service. If necessary, someone will meet you at the Club and show you how
to operate the equipment.
Thank you to everyone who is helping at the Club. Whether it’s teaching or as-
sisting with classes or helping out in one of the many other ways. You're provid-
ing a valuable service and it does not go unnoticed!
Richard
Instructors Needed Belinda Freeman, Director of Training - [email protected]
If you can instruct a class, please let me know. I have had several requests for these two classes. There are several class times available afternoons and evenings during the week.
Novice Obedience Class The instructor should work with the handler to develop their dog in this sport per the AKC Obedience Regulations so the dog/handler team will be able to complete all exercises in an AKC Novice Obedience Course and are ready to compete in AKC events at this level.
Introduction to Rally The instructor should work with the handler to develop their dog in this sport per the AKC Rally Regulations so the dog/handler team is familiar with the signs and by the end of an 8-10 week session can complete a Novice Rally Course.
Northeast Wisconsin Dog Show Classic
It takes a lot of volunteers to put on a dog show, especially one as big as the Northeast Wisconsin Dog Show Classic in Manitowoc, March 30—- April 2! If you need volunteer hours, here’s your opportunity. Please contact the person listed for each volunteer area. No experience necessary. Please help us, as this is one of the biggest incomes for each club.

PKC Outreach has been really busy this spring. The word is out that we are a great group of
dogs and people and we are willing to share our time with others. I can’t thank those enough
who spend time with the community and share their dogs with so many people! Lots of smiles
and memories are being created! We have had a lot of visits with college students this
month!!!

This has been one of the largest CGC classes we have had in YEARS…but definitely a great group of dogs and people. Special thanks to Candee Brey, Wendee Draves, Bree Draves, Cheryl Sulewski, Cody Sulewski and Amy Zelton for their dedication each week to this class, and for taking the reigns when I was out of town. I enjoy my time with these club members and the great instruction they provide to the trainees.
There were 22 teams that took the CGC test and all 22 passed! Special thanks to Rita VanDenHeuvel, Kay Detample, Cheryl Sulewski, Rob Bermke and Sam Bermke for taking time out of their evenings to help test these teams. We had a fantastic ‘crowd’ of Amy Zelton, Wendee Draves, Candee Brey, Bree Draves, Cody Sulewski and greeter dog “Cal”. We can’t run the tests without the help of many and these people certainly stepped up to help so others could succeed. THANK YOU!
Congratulations to the following teams on their new CGC title!

Packerland Kennel Club Business Meeting
March 1, 2017
Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by the President, Richard Marquardt.
Report of the President: Richard stated that everyone should have seen the correction to the Paw Print that only Instructors’ dinners are paid for at the Annual Spring Fling, not assistants.
Recording Secretary: Belinda was absent so no minutes were read from last months’ meeting.
Corresponding Secretary: Newsletter from Winnegamie in the information center Had second reading for Tammy and Jim Cegelski. Vote was not taken due to lack of attendance. Ten hour volunteer time for new members was discussed and will be revisited by the Board.
Treasurer: Debbie reported income and expenses for the month and year-to-date. Balance sheet is available upon request. The Club is no longer selling Seroogy’s candy bars. Committee Reports: none
Unfinished Business: We still need a volunteer as an emergency contact for building maintenance.
Training Equipment Cabinet: Debbie got a report on the cost of the training equipment. Cost is exceeding the selling price so a new price list will be developed. Will also look into other options for equipment purchases in the future.
New Business: Agility meeting will be March 16th, 7:00 p.m. at the Club.
New pictures are up on the walls. Needing more room for pictures was discussed.
One of the training mirrors is cracked. It will be taped for the time being.

Belinda read the minutes from the March General Business Meeting. Tammie Scheich made a motion to accept as read. Kim Cooley seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Corresponding Secretary: Kristie reported a receipt of a thank you card from Lisa Williams.
Second reading for membership: Tammy & Jim Cegleski. They own a Cocker Spaniel, do not breed or offer stud service. Sponsored by Belinda Freeman and Kristie Katch. Brittne Houchin owns a Golden Retriever. Will breed but not offer stud ser-vice. Sponsored by Mary Scott and June Ashford. They were voted into membership. Congratulations.
First reading for membership: Erin Steier has an Australian Shepherd. Does not breed nor offer stud service. Sponsored by Belinda Freeman and Tammie Scheich. Kristin and Matt Firkus have a Lab mix and Chihuahua mix. They do not breed or offer stud service.
Treasurer: Debbie reported income and expenses for the month and year-to-date. Balance sheet is available upon request. Wanda Smith made a motion to accept. Janet Gomez seconded. Motion carried.
Richard reported that the Northeast Wisconsin Dog Show Classic was a big success with 3905 total entries. He thanked every-one who devoted time to helping with the show. A special thank you to Dave Osborn and Ellen VandenAvond for their time, dedication, and all the contributions they made to the Dog Show over the past few years. Richard announced that a Show Chair is needed for the 2018 show.
Committee Reports: Agility: Keith Rosin reported that the new training schedule was emailed today and posted at the Club. Equipment move to the Fairgrounds will be April 20 at 6:00 p.m. Sign-up for classes will take place at the fairgrounds following the equipment move. He reported that an instructor for the Intro class is still needed.
Keith also reported that a volunteer is needed to supply food for the June agility trial, June 2, 3, and 4.
The new schedule for this session has a foundations class. There will also be Monday night run-throughs and perhaps other special classes; dates to be determined; announcements will go out.
Kathy Dachlet reported that the applications for the June agility trial opened yesterday and will close May 17.
Richard announced that Kerry Tesch will be the new Maintenance contact for problems at the Club. Kerry will not be responsi-ble for fixing everything but will find someone to fix any problems that arise. Sandy Dunand will be Kerry’s back-up. Kerry’s and Sandy’s cell phone numbers will be posted. Richard asked that no one should drive on the grass. With all the wet weather, it really tears up the yard.
Mary Scott reported that the new stairs for the attic had been purchased and received. Les Bonifas will install as soon as possi-ble.
Debbie Austin reported that the new price list for training equipment in the cabinet has been posted. She also reported that Faith Beam had completed the new brochures.
New Business: Debbie Austin is checking on Club members operating a concession stand at Green Bay Packers home games. She reminded everyone that this is a long-term commitment so if you volunteer for this you must stay committed to it for the entire season. A consensus vote was taken to see if Club members wanted Debbie to look into this. Tim Bauknecht was opposed stating that you need to be there three hours prior to the games -- August through January. You have to inventory before and after each game and it is a lot of work and there is a concern that people won’t stay committed to being there. It was suggested that we look at operating one of the smaller concession stands at least for the first year to make sure it works out.
Keith presented a proposal for new agility flooring. The mats being used for training at the fairgrounds are ripping and very hard to keep flat enough and keep taped down properly and is not safe for trainers for the dogs. People with fast dogs especially do not want to train on the current matting. Keith is recommending agility flooring enough to cover and 80x60-foot area; the same square matting now being used at our trials. It’s two sided and if a square is damaged is easy to replace. The quote from Great Mats is $17.05 per square. They are giving us a $1.70 per square savings. The total is $8,287.18 which includes shipping and tax. Keith stated that help paying for this would come from more people training; there is some old agility equipment to be sold; there is an extra night for open floor at a charge, will offer the new ACT I & II, and may add a weave class for an additional fee.
(continued…)
Business Meeting Minutes
(...continued) The agility trials had a net profit of $7,218.09 in 2016. Dave Dachlet made a motion to purchase the new agility matting. Ronda Bermke expressed concern about how dirty it gets at the fairgrounds and we should have some way to protect the new matting. Keith said that the mats can be scrubbed and that we might be able to put some kind of vinyl or tarp under it. He will look into this. He also stated that the only reason we would have to purchase any new agility equipment over the next year would be due to AKC rule changes. Tammie Scheich seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Debbie Austin reported that a committee is researching membership wording changes and charges for a change in the by-laws. Kathy Dachlet will present the changes at a future meeting for a vote of the membership.
Tammie Scheich reported that she is working on re-establishing the standing rules of the club and would have some history of the Club in the Paw Print from time to time.
Sandy Dunand reported that new Rally signs will be needed after the new AKC rules go into effect on November 1.
Janet Gomez said she appreciated the agenda for the meeting going to the membership in advance of the meeting. Meeting was adjourned to brags at 8:52 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Belinda K Freeman Recording Secretary

Meeting called to order at 6:02 p.m. by the President, Richard Marquardt.
Recording Secretary: No report
Corresponding Secretary: Kristie read 3 new membership applications: Karen Gordon, a returning member; has a German Shepherd Dog, sponsored by June Ashford and Amy Salzbrun. Erin Steier, has an Aussie, sponsored by Belinda Freeman and Tammie Scheich. Krista and Matt Firkus, have a Lab mix and Chihuahua mix, sponsored by Kristie Katch and Amy Anderson.
Treasurer Report: Debbie read the profit and loss statement for February and year-to-date. Discussed the high electric bills and agreed by consensus that as lights burn out, they will be replaced by LED lights.
Unfinished Business: A decision as make to include wording on trainee applications for trainees to sign to release pictures, videos, etc. which might occur during training sessions. The exact working will be determined later. Debbie made a motion, seconded by Denise to eliminate the 10-hour requirement for trainees. Motion carried.
Belinda was asked to email Tammie to get a report on the progress of re-establishing the Club’s standing rules.
Debbie and Kristie reviewed the cost of equipment in the training equipment cabinet and made a new price list according to current costs. Belinda made a motion to approve the new price list; seconded by Kristie; motion carried.
New Business: A discussion was held regarding the attic ladder which is rather old, broken, and difficult to maneuver. Debbie made a motion to purchase a new ladder at a cost of $269. Cheryl seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Keith Rosin attended the meeting to report to the Board the need for new agility matting for the horse barn. Present mats are about 15 years old and are torn and warped. Keith advised that the Agility program is having open floor and other possible clas-ses on Monday nights at the Fairgrounds this year. He also plans to hold another ACT I and ACT II to make as much profit for the program as possible. He will also check into renting a larger storage unit if he can get it for less than the current storage rental cost. Belinda made a motion to bring the request to purchase new agility matting before the Club for their consideration. Mary seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Debbie advised that Faith could use our old brochures format, changing dates where appropriate to use at the Big Event being held at ShopKo Hall. Denise made a motion to notify Faith to proceed with printing brochures. Cheryl Bublitz seconded. Motion carried.
A discussion was held regarding working a concession stand at Packers Home Games this year. Would need to have people committed to working, but the pay-off could be very good. Debbie will check on the requirements to make this happen.
A short discussion was held on again working toward revision of the Club by-laws. Cheryl Sulewski said she would like to serve on the committee and will check with Kathy Dachlet and Tammie Scheich to see if they are interested in continuing on this com-mittee. The meeting was adjourned at 7:18 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Belinda K Freeman Recording Secretary
