Take a look at some of
Paul Klee’s best known
work.
*What can you see?
*How has he created the
images?…think about
shapes, colours, what he
used e.g.
paint/chalk/pastel/pencil?
*Do you like it? Why?
*What might you try
yourself?
*What do you want to ask
him about the piece of
work?

Today we are
going to be
looking at Klee’s
most famous
painting…
![Page 11: Paul Klee - Glenfield Infant School](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081411/629a1ed2ee8683793d22e7f3/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

Senecio• Senecio (Old Man)
was painted in 1922.
• Klee said that colour was energy and it created the mood and the feelings in a painting.
• What do you think the mood/feeling is in this painting?
![Page 13: Paul Klee - Glenfield Infant School](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081411/629a1ed2ee8683793d22e7f3/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Which colours match the
different feelings we have?
Make your own ‘feelings colour wheel’…
![Page 14: Paul Klee - Glenfield Infant School](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081411/629a1ed2ee8683793d22e7f3/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
‘Senecio’
• Klee was proud of his
painting and its
‘childlike’ nature.
• He felt that childhood
was the most creative
and pure time of our
lives.
• Do you think that this
painting is childlike?
Why?
![Page 15: Paul Klee - Glenfield Infant School](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081411/629a1ed2ee8683793d22e7f3/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Florence Gefuhle Mary Gefuhle(Florence’s feelings) (Marys’s feelings)
• You are going to produce
your own version of
‘Senecio’, but it will be
called ‘Florence or Mary
Gefuhle’
• First we need to draw
Florence or Mary’s face in
a similar style to
Klee…remember to keep it
childlike! • (I’ve chosen to do Florence)
![Page 16: Paul Klee - Glenfield Infant School](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081411/629a1ed2ee8683793d22e7f3/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Florence Gefuhle(Florence’s feelings)
• Now we need to choose
the ‘feeling’ for the
picture…when during
Florence or Mary’s life will
your picture be based?
• How did she feel at this
time?
• Look on your ‘feelings
colour wheel…
Setting off to
Scutari Hospital = worried
Now use those colours for your chosen feeling to
paint your ‘Florence Gefuhle’ or ‘Mary Gefuhle’.
