    Heritage HillsLandscape Committee

The Landscape Committee continues to work hard monitoring the care and maintenance of our many miles of common area and the general landscape conditions throughout our community. We assemble with our Management Team, D.T.E. representatives and our Board Liaison on the first Thursday of every month at 10 AM. Because of committee conflicts our May meeting will be held on the 16 at 10 AM. Through these meetings, we hope to provide the highest level of service to the Heritage Hills community.

“Gator Ride Alongs” continue every Monday with Steve Meyer, Mike Daigel (D.T.E. Account Manager), Chimpa (D.T.E. Crew Foreman) and Me. We are just coming out of the dormant cool and dry season and as Spring approaches there isn’t much to report. Mike Daigle has done his best to keep detail crews on the property finishing a complete property detail in every neighborhood during the first two weeks of April. They are trying to stay ahead as weekly mowing is just beginning and the Spring schedule is now in place. D.T.E. and the office have received many inquiries regarding browning Zoysia and Bahia lawn turf. Conditions should improve and lawns should start to green up shortly. As spring approaches, the nighttime temperatures will increase, days will get longer, and rain fall and irrigation days will increase. This along with a March/April application of a granular fertilizer by D.T.E. will hopefully move things along to greener turf.

While riding through the community we continue to find more and more dead and dying Queen Palm and Fir/Pine trees both in established and newly planted stock. D.T.E. has informed us that the Queen Palms are contracting Fusarium Wilt and the Fir/Pine trees Diplodia. Both diseases, which are new to Central Florida, are not treatable and are very contagious tree to tree. Dead or dying trees should be removed as quickly as possible to prevent the spread of the diseases. In the common areas, the H.O.A. removes trees as they are identified. If you have a tree at issue on your property please contact D.T.E. by submitting a work order. Mike will be happy to come out and give a diagnosis. If you wish, you may also contact your own Arborist to secure a plan of action. These diseases spread quickly and will kill even healthy trees in a short period of time. In the case of the Queen Palms, fronds yellow and die closest to the ground first and move up the tree until the whole tree is infected. The Fir (Pine) tree’s needles yellow and then turn brown usually branch by branch. Newer Homes or Villas under one year old may have a tree warranty from Lennar. Contact their “Customer Service” to find out. While on the topic of trees, D.T.E. has completed a contract to trim, thin, and raise the canopies of the 56 Oak trees which line Heritage Blvd. gate to gate. This action not only contributes the general health of the trees, but allows more sun light to reach the canopy interior, the turf and the shrub beds beneath them. Many thanks go to the D.T.E. staff and crew who came in on a Saturday and Sunday to complete this work.

There have been several irrigation issues which have come up since our last report. I’m sorry to say that we still have well issues. The wells are in some areas are over 10 yrs. old and were not properly maintained by Lennar. The Board is doing its best to bring all well operations up to standard. Well A has had complete cleaning and relining. B and C wells were also down and under repair. The Clubhouse well has received a new series of check valves to improve pressure and efficiency. The well work on both sides of Heritage Hills Blvd. to install new check valves and increasing pipe diameter to 3” has been completed. You will notice the ground has been leveled and new sod installed. Additional controllers and decoders have also been replaced along Heritage Hills Blvd. Special parts have been ordered for B and C wells to bring them back on line. Residents have also noticed additional manual watering is being done along Heritage Hills Blvd. This action is allowed by the City of Clermont because of our continuing well issues. Many drip lines and bubblers at established trees and shrub beds have also been turned off or capped to promote better efficiency. If you have questions about common area irrigation please contact our office.

Now that Heritage Hills is in control of its landscape affairs, the Board has charged the Landscape Committee with the responsibility of searching out areas on the property where landscaping can be improved, map them out, prioritize them, suggest solutions, secure estimates and present them to the Board for their consideration. We want to help make Heritage Hills the most beautiful community in the area.

If you have landscape questions or concerns please send in a work order to [email protected] or call 352-385-7227 Ext.0. Please do not stop and speak to the D.T.E. Account Manager or crew on site to discuss your issues. This will not solve your problem and leaves no paper trail to track. Steve Meyer, and the Landscape Committee are kept up to date with D.T.E.’s receipt and execution of the work orders submitted each week. Thank You for your input, cooperation and understanding.

HOA Board of DirectorsGreetings from your HOA Board. There have been

some important developments in the community recently. Three new members were added to the ACC. Lenard

Cremisio, Arthur Koerber and Gerard Miller were installed at the board meeting on March 21.

A new and larger kiln was approved for the ceramics studio along with the appropriate electrical upgrades, as well as an approval to re-felt the pool table in the clubhouse.

To maintain the integrity and beauty of the community, the board approved the trimming of trees along Heritage Hills Boulevard, power washing and painting of both guard houses and repair, reseal and restriping of the clubhouse parking lot. Additionally, our landscape company, Down To Earth, is replacing mulch adjacent to the parking lot and will replant the beds in that same area. The board also approved funds to repair the common area wells that required cleaning and new parts.

On May 23 we will have our next Annual Meeting at which we will have elections for 3 board representatives on the HOA. Registration will start at 1 PM (for those voting with paper ballots) and the meeting will begin at 2 PM. As we enter into this election, we want to bring your attention to a few important aspects of the process.

The first aspect is that we encourage you all to vote. The easiest and most convenient way for you to do this is to vote electronically. If you are not already signed up to do this, please see the concierge at your earliest opportunity. The process to sign up and then vote are quick and painless. If you prefer to cast your ballot on paper, confirm with the Community Manager that you have the required documents and that you fill them out properly.

The second aspect is to cast your vote wisely. We have six excellent candidates from which to choose in this election and we hope that you have taken every opportunity to examine the candidates carefully.

We appreciate the efforts of our activity, group and club leaders, as well as the Board, RAC, ACC CEC and other committees in conjunction with our excellent ICON staff. Together, with engaged and involved residents, we remain a community of excellence. Thank you all for your participation and support!

The RAC encourages residents to become involved in our community. Elections will soon be held for three seats on the Homeowners Board of Directors (BOD). The seats being voted for are currently held by Eric Sorkin, Dave Mandell, and Bob Tinari. It is vital to the community to have residents who wish to assist and have a voice in the future direction of Heritage Hills. There are many ways to be involved in Heritage Hills. From running for the board; serving on a committee, such as the RAC; the CEC; the ACC or the Landscape Committee, to volunteering at the front desk for a short period of time during the day, each represents an excellent opportunity to become involved in Heritage Hills to keep it the beautiful community that it is.

Resident Advisory Council (RAC)The BOD has been deeply involved in Heritage Hills since Lennar turned the

community over to the residents. We have been very fortunate to have several dedicated individuals step forward and serve in leadership roles. Announcements for candidates to the BOD will be forthcoming soon; the RAC will be taking a very active role in the coordination of events to introduce Heritage Hills to the candidates for the BOD.

You can communicate with the RAC through our email account [email protected] (put the topic of your email in the Subject line of your message so we may direct your inquiry to the appropriate person).

Through your training you will learn to:• paint on a moving target• learn excellent line control and sponging techniques. • learn to paint the most popular designs• learn how to create designs upon demand• learn one stroke painting and how to create beautiful

designs in a hurry. Once you have mastered face painting you will be

building on those skills and learn the popular delicate art of Henna. You will get to tap into your creativity and get paid for having fun as you spread joy and happiness and ignite children’s imaginations in the community.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone that is ready to indulge that creative force within. I’m so excited to meet you and witness your creative expansion, as you learn to Paint Faces and bring joy to our community.

This is a social group that enjoys working on their own projects as well as projects for donations to various charities. The group is self-guided with various skills of crochet, knitting and needlework. If you run into problems on a project, there are women (we welcome men as well) here with years of experience and expertise who can help you out. There is no one in charge, so come, stay awhile and leave when you wish. We keep a roster of the people who are in the group regularly and wish to be included in the list. If you would like to be included, please email me your information.

We anticipate one holiday party a year just to have fun and be social.

For those interested in perhaps pursuing other crafts, please let me know and we can look into it. There are many projects that are fun and easy using Modge Podge. Everything necessary can be purchased at Michael’s or Joann’s and instructions downloaded from the internet. If this interests you, contact me. If you would like to talk to someone about our group, please contact me.

We meet in the Heritage Hills Libraryon Tuesday from 1 PM - 4 PM

Want to try something new? Come to our ceramics class on the first and third Thursday afternoons at 1. We have our own kiln for firing your finished pieces. In the next few months, we will be learning two new techniques from our teacher, Wiley.

We have basic paints available ($2 charge per class as HOA does not pay for our supplies). Other more exotic paints can be ordered from Wiley.

If you are interested in trying ceramics, please visit Wiley at his shop to pick out pieces to work on, or visit his website - www.artzyzone.com - to pre-order your pieces. You can order bisque pieces ready to paint, or greenware which you clean, fire, then paint. Greenware is generally half the price of the bisque pieces.

If you have any questions, please contact

    Sherrie Schoening at 614-214-1201.

Next classes will be May 2 and 16.Hope to see you there!

    Heritage Hills • May 2019 • 15

Heritage Hills is fortunate to have residents that are interested in and support our resident library. With this in mind and cognizant of the need to keep fees down, we would like to know if you (THE RESIDENTS) would be interested in DONATING $1 for the purchase of new books. We would then set up a lending library of sorts for the new books so that all residents would have the opportunity to borrow the books. It is important that we hear from you whether positive or negative. If there is interest, AND sufficient funds, we could purchase some books. We could also do one fundraiser a year although with the restrictions here, I do not know if that can work. First thing first is: ARE YOU INTERESTED? I will leave an empty canister in the library to deposit your opinions for the entire month of May and then I will review them. Make certain you indicate whether you are or are not in favor and it would be helpful if you left your name as we don’t want people responding more than once. We all take pride in the library and strive to meet community needs.

Due to space limitations, we have room for current magazines only and books no older than 2009 whether they are fiction or non fiction and are in good condition.

For donations of items we are unable to take, Cooper Memorial Library would be happy to receive your books. The books are a huge source of fundraising for the library. Their book sale takes place in February. We encourage you to bring older books to Cooper Memorial Library located at 2525 Oakley Seaver Drive, Clermont, Florida 34711, phone 352-536-2275. The library is closed on Sunday. From Monday to Thursday, the library is open from 9 AM to 7 PM. On Friday and Saturday, the library is open from 9 AM to 1 PM. A call to the library in April indicated these hours but a resident indicated that the library hours have been extended so call to check. The Cooper Memorial Library would appreciate any donations EXCEPT for magazines, videotapes, out of date technical books such as tax books, etc. Other books in good condition are welcomed. All proceeds from their book sale go back to the library community.

Please do not shelf or re-shelf the books. There is an order to the library. As we mainly stock fiction books, they are arranged alphabetically by author and not by subject matter. Biographies and help, craft and other assorted books can be found on the top shelves at this time.

Return your books in the baskets provided. You may also leave your donated books and other materials in the baskets. Anyone with suggestions or comments, feel free to contact me. If you would like to see changes such as the location of the library, a larger library that houses the coffee machines, etc., please email me. Our community is for everyone’s benefit so it is important to let your thoughts and preferences be known.

    To The Men ofHeritage Hills:

A Christian Men’s Group continues to meet here at Heritage Hills and we invite you to join us. We will meet at 10 AM at the clubhouse in the Venetian Room for fellowship, bible study and prayer on the following Saturdays in May:

    May 4 May 18

All men of all denominations are invited so if you have a desire to make new friends or to further or even renew your relationship with God, please consider checking us out.

Our desire is to provide an opportunity to have open discussion in a relaxed atmosphere without putting anybody on the spot.

If you are interested in knowing more, please either email or call George Davis for more information.

    HomeopathicStudy Group

Did you know…?• The World Health Organization (WHO) states that

Homeopathy is the fastest growing and second most used medicine system in the world.

    • The National Institutes of Health reports that more than 6 million people in the US use Homeopathy, for both self-care and for specific health conditions.

    • According to the Homeopathy Research Institute, more than 200 million people around the world use Homeopathy. Homeopathic medicine is included in the national health systems of many countries including Brazil, Chile, India, Mexico, Pakistan and Switzerland. In France, 44% of health care providers prescribe homeopathic medicines.

Homeopathy is a natural therapy that works in harmony with the immune system and strengthens the body’s own healing processes. It’s side effect free!

Come learn with us and feel better. We welcome you to come and jump right into our study at any time!

Our main text, Homeopathic Remedies by Asa Hershoff, is available from Amazon.com for $12.77. It is helpful to have your own copy so you can read in preparation for our monthly study group meetings, as well as allow you take notes and/or highlight as you wish. The book is a well-organized introduction to Homeopathy AND it is a helpful reference for good health and self-care at home. The Healing Echo is available from Amazon.com for $17.71.

One thing to note is that the word homeopathy is not a general or “umbrella” term that describes a variety of different natural therapies. Although homeopathic medicines are derived from natural substances, Homeopathy should not be confused with herbal medicine, Chinese medicine or other types of natural medicines. Homeopathy is its own, unique therapeutic system that uses small, highly diluted doses of natural substances to trigger the body’s own healing abilities.

    Law of Similars

Homeopathy is a system of medicine developed by a German physician, Samuel Hahnemann, over 200 years ago. Since that time, it has spread to every country of the world. It is based on the Law of Similars, that is, like cures like. This means that a substance given in a large crude dosage will produce specific symptoms, but when administered in an extremely minute dose will stimulate the body’s reactive processes to remove these same symptoms. For example, Ipecacuanha (Ipecac), if taken in a large dose will produce vomiting. When taken in an extremely small homeopathic dose (prepared by a series of dilutions and successions), it will aid the body in eliminating the vomiting. It will even stop the gagging which frequently follows a coughing spell. There are more that 2000 homeopathic medicines, most available over-the-counter. Many acute ailments can be treated at home, while chronic illness may require the help of a homeopathic practitioner. Come learn with us about safe, gentle and effective Homeopathy. We welcome you to join us, jumping right into study with us at any time. Our main text, Homeopathic Remedies by Asa Hershoff, is available from Amazon.com for $12.77. Heritage Hills Gardens & Groves Group Update

In February 2019 the member/volunteers of the GGG completed the annual pruning & installed plastic bottles at the base of the grapevines to protect the vines from damage of the weed whackers. With approval of the BOD, the Comand Soil was delivered and applied in the vineyard by DTE. Irrigation Techs are currently working on repairs to the irrigation as well. All combined efforts should contribute to a fruitful harvest at summer’s end.

If you have any interest in participating in any vineyard related activities, please feel free to join us at our meetings on the second Tuesday of every month at the clubhouse. New members are always welcome!

  • Wii BowlingThe spring Wii Bowl Tournament is now official. Bob and Tina McAreavey

have defended their title by winning back to back HH club championships! It was an exciting end to the spring season as the Hartzells’ needed three wins from the McAreaveys’ in the second last week of the season, to force a playoff with the defending champs. And the Hartzells’ did not disappoint. But in the last week playoff it was the McAreaveys’ who repaid the favor, taking the Hartzells’ out and claiming their second club championship. The team of Sasha Griffin and Taylor Nardolillo had a hard charge in the end but could not overcome their slow start to the season. Congratulations to all bowlers! We will keep you posted on the timing of the next tournament. Thanks to all who participated.

Many of you were fortunate enough to enjoy seeing Billy Elliot at the Garden Theater. If you enjoyed the performance and the price ($24), you are certainly welcome to join this group.

I need your name, address, phone number and email to add you to my list. It’s as simple as that and we’d be delighted to include you.

April was a busy month where there were two shows. Many joined the group for a performance of Sweet Charity at the Annie Russell Theatre in Orlando. What a bargain that was at $12 a ticket. A big thank you to Bunnie Friedman for arranging for that event. She is always willing to help our group and has gotten information for future events for our group as well.

We continue to enjoy the productions at the Garden Theater in Winter Garden, due to the excellent shows and the proximity to Heritage Hills as well as the variety of local restaurants we are able to enjoy nearby. Look for future announcements that may come by email first. There will be no May meeting for our group.

Spring UpdateAfter a busy first quarter in 2019, the Heritage Hills

Players are taking a short “siesta” and enjoying our beautiful Spring at Heritage Hills!

We are so grateful to our neighbors and friends for your support in the first part of this year! Our “main stage” production of The Odd Couple was a big hit with the highest ticket sales ever. The “joint was jumpin’” as almost 200 residents and friends turned out for our second annual New Orleans Nights Jazz Concert and Silent Auction. The Jazz Ambassadors from East Ridge High once again gave us a great evening with smooth jazz and big band sounds. We shared the ticket sales with them, and they were very grateful for that generous donation on the part of all of us here at Heritage Hills. The silent auction netted us a tidy sum to put towards some additional audio equipment for future productions.

So, thank you friends and neighbors for your continued support! The Players are creating some more great entertainment in the months to come, so stay tuned!
