We encourage all families to make use of the Patterson Lakes Primary School Walk and Wheels to School Route map and the new Parking Around Patterson Lakes Primary School map. The Kingston Council in conjunction with groups of parents from our school, have created these maps to reduce the vehicle movement around our school, and encourage families to walk from home, or park their car and stride to school from a nearby location. I have noticed over this last week, brand new navy rain coats being worn. A sensible solution to an unwieldy umbrella! Families who use the roundabout at Thompson and Dandenong Frankston Roads will be aware that there will be road works in this area and will need to plan their journey appropriately. Staff will continue to be on duty at the entrance gates from 8.30am each morning and from 3.15pm – 3.45pm in the afternoon. We will continue with the process of students in Foundation, Years One and Two being brought to their respective gates by a teacher at 3.25pm to allow for some of the traffic to move. Years Three to Six will make their own way to their respective gates when the bell sounds at 3.30pm. Rather than competing with the road traffic at peak times, I would advise families who have not accessed our Out of School Hours Program, to make a booking with TheirCare on www.theircare.com.au and allow your child the opportunity of a supervised play date and for you to forego the peak hour travel crush. If you do have the need to use one of the Kiss and Go zones, then please have your child place their school bag in the foot well of the car, so that there is no need for you to exit your car and hold up traffic in these drop off zones. I will send an updated Parent/Carer Handbook for the remainder of the term on Friday via Compass, which outlines all of the new protocols. Thank you to the families for their support over the past two weeks, but with the Years 3 - 6 students returning to school next week, it is important that all processes be adhered to for the safety of our children. MOBILE PHONES I would encourage families to have all mobile phones remain at home unless absolutely necessary. If you need to send a message, you can phone the school office on 9772 4011 and a message will be passed on to your child. Students who bring a mobile telephone to school, must abide by the school s mobile phone policy. Phones will now be locked in a safe located in their year level, and not brought to the office for safeguarding. ATTENDANCE All students are expected to attend school each day. Parents have the responsibility of informing the school when their child is away, either via Compass or leaving a message on the attendance voicemail. It is important that students be at school and ready to learn in their classrooms at 9.00am, however in line with the repeated message over these past few months, if your child is unwell, then they must stay at home. I would recommend all families booking into our Out of School Hours Care Program with TheirCare, so that your child may be cared for within an organised program if you are running late, or held up in traffic. REMOTE LEARNING SURVEY On Monday, I sent families a Compass message in regard to completing the Remote Learning Survey. Thank you to the families who have already taken the time to complete the survey. I have added the survey to the newsletter in anticipation that other families may also take the opportunity to provide the school with feedback on the experience.

Winter Health – Beating the Bugs In Australia, our ‘flu’ (influenza) season typically runs from May to October, usually peaking

in August.

It is just not possible to stop all bugs from spreading at school, however, a lot of illnesses

can be prevented and controlled simply by practising good hygiene.

Handy hygiene tips for you and your family

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing

Throw used tissues in plastic-lined rubbish bins

Wash your hands with soap and water, preferably warm water if available

Reduce the spread of germs by avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth

What can you do to prevent the spread of infectious diseases?

The three main ways of preventing the spread of infection are:

1. Remind your child of effective hygiene methods.

2. Keep your child home when they are unwell. Your doctor will let you know if your child

has an 'excludable' condition. You will need to advise the school as soon as possible and

keep your child home for the length of time that your doctor advises.

3. Ensure your child's immunisations are up to date.
