Pattern One:Compound Sentence: Semicolon, No

Pattern 1Examples:
Some people dream of being something; others stay awake and are.
Reading is the easy part; remembering takes more effort.
Use this pattern when you have talked about similar ideas in several sentences. If you combine these ideas, you will have a single, more powerful sentence.
Sentence Pattern 1A
S V ; however, SV.
Sentence Pattern 1AUses a conjunctive adverb.
However, hence, therefore, thus then, moreover, nevertheless, like-wise, consequently, and accordingly.
Examples: She exercised everyday and cut back on her food;
however, she didn’t lose any weight. This car looks as if it has been wrecked; therefore
it’s not a good buy.

was certainly broken.
