Introduction to Component Display Rules
Component Display Rules • Create variations to a template based on external
influences such as horizontal and vertical controls
• Automatically change the template based on design condition variations
• Allows you to apply one template that changes based on what is occurring at a particular station
• Frees designer from knowing where a change in conditions might require a different template and allows the rules within a template to make modifications

Introduction to Component Display Rules
Component Display RulesTwo primary parts to a Component Display Rule:
1. The individual Rule (stored in the template)Supported Rule Types include:
• Horizontal• Absolute Horizontal• Vertical• Absolute Vertical• Slope• Absolute Slope• Component is Displayed
All but the last are conditional expressions between points that use <, <=, =, >=, > to compare the specified difference between the two points to a particular value.

5 parts to the Display Rule1. Name (no spaces allowed)
2. Type (horizontal, vertical, slope, etc.)
3. Calculated Value
4. Test (greater than , less than, equal, etc.)
5. Test value

Introduction to Component Display Rules
Component Display Rules (cont)Two primary parts to a Component Display Rule:
2. The conditional expression (stored on the component)
– An example of a conditional expression would be: Rule1 OR (Rule2 AND Rule3)

Introduction to Component Display Rules
The Conditional ExpressionContains the Rule name and operational expressions with
parenthetical hierarchical structure.

Introduction to Component Display Rules
Parent Components• Component is only displayed if the parent
component is displayed
• The parent component can be either a non-end condition component, or an end condition component
• Parent Components are defined on the Component Properties dialog box
