PHA Wellness Meals
A minimum of three wellness meals need to be offered daily in cafeteria and on general service patient menu by July 1, 2015
Currently two meals meet PHA guidelines in the cafeteria and one meal meets guidelines in patient boxed lunches

≤ 700 calories
≤ 10% calories from saturated fat
No artificial trans fat
≤ 800 mg. of sodium

2 oz. serving equivalent lean meat/poultry/fish or alternative
2 oz. serving equivalent whole grain rich grain
¾ cup serving fruit or equivalent

– Adults prefer three components and three colors on their plates
– The perception of choice has a profound impact on consumption; research suggests when we perceive more variety, consumption increases by almost 77%
– This is particularly significant where meal selection is limited

Closing Statements
The proposed boxes now fit into the PHA/Healthy Picks criteria laid out for KSMC
– Something new, change is good and refreshing!
We anticipate price increase in boxes will be offset with Grab & Go purchases
– Test run could be made to determine estimate
We are working towards a healthier staff and clientele and believe we are one step closer with meals we have created
