PATHOPHYSIOLOGY Chronic Hypertension with Superimposed Preeclampsia PREDISPOSING FACTORS -Age (42y/o) -Family History HTN -Medical History PRECIPITATING FACTORS -High-salt, high-fat diet Activation of Sympathetic Nervous System Endothelial damage - heart rate - cardiac contractility - produces widespread vasoconstriction in the peripheral arterioles uterine placental blood flow -severe headache -dizziness - vomiting -loss of normal balance -Muscle Strength Grading 2/5, left side of the body -unable to sit without support VASOPASMS Peripheral resistance Abnormal clotting occurs N.O., Prostacyclin, Endothelin renal perfusion Angiotensin I Angiotensinogen renin Juxtaglomerular cells ELEVATED BP compression of brain A-C-E Acute Cerebellar Hemmorhage Increased IOP Premature delivery Adrenal cortex Angiotensin II aldosterone Na reabsorption H2O reabsorption Arteriolar vasoconstriction -blurring of vision
