THE PATH TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE WORLD The path to a more sustainable planet is a hot theme in the minds of world leaders in all spheres of life and rightly so. The big question is how do we achieve this in a practical way? Well , it starts at the individual level for society itself is a sum of the actions of the individuals in the community, nation and the world. Yes, the world is increasingly becoming a society hence the rising popularity of the term a global village. However, from a scriptural perspective nations are recognized. The scriptures clearly recognizes the role of nations in the fulfilment of bible prophecy. Nonetheless, the good news is, if we get it right at the individual level we will have a more prosperous and sustainable planet. The bible provides us with practical guidance to achieving this at the individual level. It says in Joshua 1:8 – This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. The bible indeed provides answers to our burning questions and aspirations. I must say there is a spiritual perspective to a lot of the information we receive though some may not be aware of this fact. For instance, sometimes I receive emails notifying me of “debts” I need not pay. In reality, in the physical I do not owe any debts but can the same be said in the spiritual? Do you sometimes get similar emails or are you in some way aware of a huge debt you owe spiritually? To begin with, everyone who has not accepted the Lord Jesus as their personal Lord and savior is a debtor spiritually. Unfortunately, this is not a debt that can be paid with our own works no matter how hard we work or try. The good news is, the price has already been paid over two thousand years ago on the cross of Calvary by the Lord Jesus Christ and has been made available to the whole of mankind by the Father as a free gift of salvation. Yes, it is absolutely free. Furthermore, I am also aware that similar debts do arise as a result of our actions especially with regards to how we treat the planet and people. From a people perspective that is why the bible tells us faith works by love (Galatians 5:6). For those who have accepted God’s precious gift, the price paid by our Lord on the cross is far more than enough for us. However, is this a justifiable reason to ignore these debts? The bible provides good insights in 1 st Corinthians 3:11 – 15 – For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become manifest; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. How are we to act with regards to the debt that arise as a result of how we treat the planet? We are to do the best we can to take care of the planet with the knowledge we have per time and our Father definitely expects u s too. The bible tells us clearly that those who die in the Lord will rise and reign with Lord here on earth for a thousand years (see Revelation 20). So to live a debt free live spiritually, the journey starts with accepting God’s precious free gift of salvation and the consistent meditation on God’s word so that we may grow in the knowledge of the truths and revelations contained in it. If nations take on this challenge and lead the people in the path of righteousness, we will no doubt have a very prosperous and healthy planet. The bible affirms this in several scriptures some of which are; Proverbs 14:34 – Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people, Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. THE PATH TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE WORLD

The path to a more sustainable planet is a hot theme in the minds of world leaders in all spheres of life and rightly

so. The big question is how do we achieve this in a practical way? Well , it starts at the individual level for society

itself is a sum of the actions of the individuals in the community, nation and the world. Yes, the world is

increasingly becoming a society hence the rising popularity of the term a global village. However, from a scriptural

perspective nations are recognized. The scriptures clearly recognizes the role of nations in the fulfilment of bible

prophecy. Nonetheless, the good news is, if we get it right at the individual level we will have a more prosperous

and sustainable planet. The bible provides us with practical guidance to achieving this at the individual level. It

says in Joshua 1:8 – This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and

night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

The bible indeed provides answers to our burning questions and aspirations. I must say there is a spiritual

perspective to a lot of the information we receive though some may not be aware of this fact. For instance,

sometimes I receive emails notifying me of “debts” I need not pay. In reality, in the physical I do not owe any debts

but can the same be said in the spiritual? Do you sometimes get similar emails or are you in some way aware of a

huge debt you owe spiritually? To begin with, everyone who has not accepted the Lord Jesus as their personal

Lord and savior is a debtor spiritually. Unfortunately, this is not a debt that can be paid with our own works no

matter how hard we work or try. The good news is, the price has already been paid over two thousand years ago

on the cross of Calvary by the Lord Jesus Christ and has been made available to the whole of mankind by the Father as a free gift of salvation. Yes, it is absolutely free.

Furthermore, I am also aware that similar debts do arise as a result of our actions especially with regards to how

we treat the planet and people. From a people perspective that is why the bible tells us faith works by love

(Galatians 5:6). For those who have accepted God’s precious gift, the price paid by our Lord on the cross is far

more than enough for us. However, is this a justifiable reason to ignore these debts? The bible provides good

insights in 1st Corinthians 3:11 – 15 – For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus

Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s

work will become manifest; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test

each one’s work of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures he will receive a reward. If

anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. How are we to

act with regards to the debt that arise as a result of how we treat the planet? We are to do the best we can to

take care of the planet with the knowledge we have per time and our Father definitely expects u s too. The bible

tells us clearly that those who die in the Lord will rise and reign with Lord here on earth for a thousand years (see

Revelation 20). So to live a debt free live spiritually, the journey starts with accepting God’s precious free gift of

salvation and the consistent meditation on God’s word so that we may grow in the knowledge of the truths and

revelations contained in it. If nations take on this challenge and lead the people in the path of righteousness, we

will no doubt have a very prosperous and healthy planet. The bible affirms this in several scriptures some of which

are; Proverbs 14:34 – Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people, Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
