Hitting Video Analysis
Instruction process• Step 1 – Comparing a student to the pros
• Step 2 - Begin to learn core movements with repetition
• Step 3 – Game mode versus Practice Mode
• Step 4 – Getting in the zone
• Step 5 – Becoming your own coach
Optimal technique• Force (Power) – How much force is generated and delivered
into the ball.
• Big Zone (Contact) – The longer the bat stays through theplane of the pitch, the greater the chances for success.
• Efficiency (Time and Energy) – The more efficient the batter, the more time and energy available to focus on how, when and where to make contact. Any jerk in the swing is an inefficient adjustment to the speed and location of the pitch.
•
Stance - load (1 Position)
• Pro
• Good head control – chin up a little and tilted in toward plate
• Too much weight back-poor posture
• Bat wrap- need more separation
• Hands need to go up and back
Stride (2 Position)
• Pro
• Good separation – hands back• Hands a little too low – scap load• Leaning back – poor posture• Insufficient Weight shift – see
circles Red circle is center of gravity in the load.
Legs start the swing - POWER2.5 position
• This is what a 2.5 should look like on the lower half!
• Front arm barring and back elbowcrashing – long swing
• Elbows collapse – bat drag
Hands inside the ball - power3 Position
• Great weight shift and momentum!• Back leg drive!• Hands are going away from the body• Not able to match plane• Reaching for the ball
Getting in the contact zone –CONSISTENCY/EFFICIENCY
• Very athletic approach!• Front arm barring which drives the
hands and away from the body• Not getting on plane soon enough• Will cause a very small contact
zone
Contact - hands above the ball 4 Position
• Look at your back foot….100% weight transfer! Atta boy!
• Head position – looking down• Making contact way out in
front• Bat is slowing down at
contact
Adjustments
Positions• 1 - Load
• (Better scap -load upper body arms)
• 2 Stride• (Hand position – keep hands up and back yellow box• (Keep hips closed a little longer as you stride)
• 2.5 Back side drive• (Great job! Address the hitter’s box collapsing )
• 3 Position(Better turn with the hips, then the torso and thenthe hands. Get connected – Stay Connected )
• 4 Position(Let the ball travel – this will improve automatically with a better 3)
• (Keep chin up when you swing)
Drills
• Fence drill• Ninja Drills• 2 with a pitch• Front toss• Live BP• Momentum• High T• Mirror• Mental skills
