Stewardship of Prayer

Pastor’s MessageDear Parishioners,

Happy Easter! The resurrection of Jesus tells us that what happened to him will happen to us. That reminds us that the bodies that we are in right now, can and do die. In fact, they are not our own, they are a gift from God for us to use to prepare for the day we receive our permanent bodies at the resurrection of the dead. This is a great mystery and is the reason why we bury bodies and cremated remains. The human body is holy and must be treated with respect if we

remember the resurrection of our bodies.

Let us remember to say Jesus is risen, as in the present tense. The reason for that is that he is still risen. The resurrected Lord is with us at every mass we celebrate. He is the unseen guest at every meal and the silent listener to ev-ery conversation. His memory is not only alive, he is alive. The holy presence of Christ Jesus is in the church because of the tabernacle and especially when we celebrate mass. He is risen, Alleluia!

Sincerely in Christ,

Using the Lectio Divina approach of reading, reflect-ing, responding, and con-templating the word of God, Lectio presents:”The Lamb of God,” “The Bread of Life,” “The Body and the Blood of Christ”... these

are phrases we know from the Mass. But do we understand what they mean in the greater and deeper context of Scripture and Church teach-ing? Acclaimed author and teacher Dr. Brant Pitre rigorously digs down to the biblical roots of the Eucharist, through its foreshadowing in the miraculous events of the Old Testament, the Gospels, and Apostolic teaching. We’ll discover firsthand how Christ’s Body and Blood are an integral and wondrous part of God’s plan for our salvation.

National Day of Prayer

Thursday, May 4thPeople of faith across the nation will join in intercessory prayer for our governmental leaders, local communities, and the most vulnerable among us. As Catholic Christians, Jesus invites all of us to be vibrant witnesses of trust in God and love for one another. Invite your parishioners to be a part of this landmark day!Help your parish be a sign of hope and unity!

World Day of Prayer for Vocations

The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publicly fulfill the Lord’s instruction to, “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). As a climax to a prayer that is continually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreci-ating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priest-hood and deaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms

(male and female, contemplative and apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life, in the particular sense of mission “ad gentes”.

Vocation Chalice

We need good, holy priests to bring us the Eucharist. There-fore the purpose of our program is to pray for priests and priestly vocations every day. The chalice is the sacred cup that the priest uses at Mass in which the Precious Blood of Jesus is consecrated then given to the faithful. We hope through our efforts and God’s grace that this spiritual devo-tion will plant the seed of a priestly vocation in many young men. May God richly bless you with every good gift as you pray for priestly vocation. Sign up, in the back of the church,

to host the Vocation Chalice at your home or in your SVdP classroom!

Stewardship of Treasure

Stewardship Prayer

My parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is.It will be friendly, if I am. It will be holy, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them.It will do great work, if I work. It will be prayerful, if I pray.It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring others into worship, if I invite and bring them in.It will be a place of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of com-passion, charity, and mercy. if I, who make it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with the help of God, I now dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my parish to be!

Making Stewardship a Way of Life!

Pay It Forward...How Your Gifts Can Keep on Giving

Sunday, May 14th - Mother’s Day Cards

As a special remembrance we have available Mother’s Day cards in the back to the church. Please fill out one of these cards and return them to our church office no later than May 5th. Your mother will be remembered during a special

Mother’s Day Novena being said for 9 days before May 14th.

Earth Day - Saturday, April 22nd

“Who made the mountains, Who made the trees, Who made the rivers that flow to the sea?

Then he sends the rains when the earth is dry, Somebody bigger than you and I.”

What an appropriate time to hear this song by Elvis Presley. Today is Earth Day, which began on April 22, 1970, to fight against the deterioration of the environment, is considered the largest secular observance in the world. This movement has led the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the “Clean Air, Clean Water, and the Endangered species Acts.” And America has responded positively to this movement.

The Catholic Church teaches that the earth and all creation are a gift from God for our benefit. “The Church is likewise conscious of the responsibility which all of us have for our world, for the whole creation, which we must love and protect.” Today, Pope Francis, with his Encyclical Letter, “Laudato Si: Care for our Common Home,” is at the forefront of this movement, says,

Following the mandate of the Church, to be “collaborators in cre-ation,” St. Vincent de Paul Parish and School ask our parishioners and students to make an effort to do so by observing the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle).Posted April 22, 2016 - Mila Glodava’s Blog

The Resurrection of the Lord

My Lenten resolution this year was to use less water―to take shorter showers, and to be more mindful of the water I waste. A thousand miles away, and without our talking about it, my sister chose the same fast, but each day as she ended her too-short shower she added a prayer for someone, known or unknown to her, who needed an extra-loving boost of grace that day.

God, who is not confined by time and space, answered her prayers and those of billions before and after her. On that Easter morning, God gave all creation, for all time, an “extra-loving boost of grace.”

Easter, not Good Friday, is the center of God’s heart. God did not make death. God made life, and gave it to us, pressed down and overflowing, exactly as our Easter altars express it today. Gorgeous colors, heavenly fragrances, new life bursting from the cold winter graves―this is our God, singing our souls out of their hard shells and saying, “Partner with me, love and protect my stunning world, and I will show you the Risen One in the fruit of the earth and the work of human hands.”

Jesus did not need an empty tomb in order to break the chains of death. He who calmed the sea and cast out demons did not need a rolled-away stone in order to be in glory. His resurrected body was for the sake of those who, confined by time and space, needed a bodily Jesus, raised from the dead and eating and drinking with them. Those of us who were not the eyewitnesses need not feel left out; we know where to find our Risen Lord.

In what radiant parts of your life do you find our Risen Jesus?

Divine Mercy Novena

Begins Good Friday then runs until Divine Mercy Sunday, April 23, 2017

The Divine Mercy Message and DevotionThe message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us – all of us. And, he wants us to recog-nize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kow-alska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God’s mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the de-votion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread. Spend time to learn more about the mercy of God, learn to trust in Jesus, and live your life as merciful to others, as Christ is merciful to you.
