Guyton Chrisan Church (DOC), October 2016, Page 1 www.GuytonChrisanChurch.org Pastor’s Peace/Piece One year ago I announced to the Board that I would retire from active ministry and from Guyton Christian Church on May 31, 2018. At the last Ministerial Relations Committee meeting, I announced that I will be retiring sooner than that, just after my 65 th birthday, at the end of February 2017. Family considerations have brought about this change. A year ago, Kay and I were not certain of our plans in retirement. Now the focus has become clear. We will be moving to Arkansas to be near my mother. The decision is more pressing now—it is just five months away. There will be sadness as I leave this church family that I know and love. You have been my home and my family for over nine years. I will not be a participant in the great things this congregation will continue to do. We have been in the presence of the living Spirit of God. Few things have been easy and not all have worked out the way WE planned. But the welcoming nature of this church family, the permission given for ministries when new dreams and visions are claimed, and the great leadership of the Jesus followers among us have born fruit. I have no doubt that will continue. I know that God is not done with me yet. I will have to learn how to set priorities for myself and my family that are just as fulfilling and in more restful ways. But my gifts will still be useful to a congregation, or a neighborhood, or some other collection of people that I may journey with. Those possibilities are as exciting as any new be- ginning. You will feel the same sense of separation. But you will also know the excite- ment of something, or someone, new. God is calling each of you and you will still re- spond in faith. Board Chair, Jack Malcom, will be naming a Search Committee for an interim minister and a permanent replacement perhaps as soon as the October 9 annual Business meeting of the congregation. He already has some committee members in mind. If you feel called to that task, let Jack know. The process will allow us to close well and to continue strong. Pastor’s Peace/Piece

One year ago I announced to the Board that I would retire from active ministry and from Guyton Christian Church on May 31, 2018. At the last Ministerial Relations Committee meeting, I announced that I will be retiring sooner than that, just after my 65

th birthday, at the end of February 2017.

Those possibilities are as exciting as any new be-ginning.

You will feel the same sense of separation. But you will also know the excite-ment of something, or someone, new. God is calling each of you and you will still re-spond in faith.

Food Pantry. Our food collection item this month for The Fillin’ Station is RICE! Any brand will do! 1 or 2 pounds bags. Canned meats such as tuna, chicken and ham, are always welcome!

The Nominating Committee for 2017 officers of the congregation was named and approved at the Board meeting September 12. They are: Lamar Hall, chair; Ginny Clary; Brandon Long; Johnny Taylor; Nancy Summerour; Mary Grace Fisher; Woody MacKay; Fred Griffin; and Joyce Ann Tuten. Please share suggestions for nominations to a committee member.

Michael Moore’s Adult Sunday School is be-ginning a new study. Called “The Story”, it is an abridged, chronological Bible that reads like a novel. There are no verse references, and Scripture segments are seamlessly wo-ven together with transition text into a single grand narrative. For those intimidated or overwhelmed by the unabridged Bible, The Story helps people understand God’s Word more fully and engage with it more easily. This is an opportunity for all stages of faith to learn together! Come and join us!

A new ladies Bible Study began September

26 at 7pm. Various ladies will host the study

at their home during the six-week session.

Location for the following week will be an-

nounced at each session. The study titled

“Entrusted” by Beth Moore is on 2 Timothy.

All ladies are welcome to attend and we look

forward to being with you. Study books are

available and more will be purchased if

needed. Come join us on Mondays at 7pm.

This is a great time of learning, sharing and

studying the Scriptures. Again, we hope you

can join us!

Choir

Practice continues! The rehearsals begin at

7:30pm in the church sanctuary each

Wednesday. We welcome all who would like

to join in the music ministry — ages 18 and

up.

CPR recertification class rescheduled for Tuesday, October 4 at 6:30pm. We will meet in the Sanctuary.

Cost $7.00 per person.

The annual Business Meeting of the

Congregation will follow worship on

Sunday, October 9.

The Lord added and we welcome . . . Jessie

Dawson affirmed his membership and Dawn

Kienast joined Guyton Christian Church by

transfer on Sunday, August 28.

bring your passion, brochure, display, tour

to invite a neighbor, co-worker, family mem-

ber, or friend to come and see.

Don’t forget voter registration is required

by October 11. You can register or up-

date your voter registration at http://

Evangelism, and Worship. Youth events are

also planned. Karen Cote will be leading a

workshop on prayer and Pastor David will

speak at the Disciple Men’s gathering. Let

Pastor David know if you plan to attend and

would like to be a delegate representing Guy-
