Friends in Christ,
Christ is Risen! Alleluia
It was so good to celebrate the resurrection with you all once again this year! It is always such a joy to see so many people in the pews and the sanctuary decorated beautifully! I have found that there is always a much more hope filled and joyous spirit to our Easter morning worship. I hope and pray that our Lenten journey helped make this year’s Easter special.
I think I speak for all of us when I say that I thought the choral service was fantastic. Thank you to Tyler and Deb, as well as all of you who participated, for blessing us with a fantastic choral service on Palm Sunday. It is so amazing to see what our community of faith can do musically! I heard so many positive comments about the service. I know it was a lot of time and energy, but I think it was absolutely worth it!
I also want to remind you all that we will be moving to one service again this summer at 9 AM. We will begin Memorial Day weekend and our last Sunday with one service will be Labor Day weekend. I look forward to seeing you all together on Sunday mornings!
I want to close by saying how proud I am to be a part of Trinity. I am always surprised and amazed at the generosity of time, talent, and treasure that you all share. For example, in addition to the time and talent many of you put in for the choral service, we were able to raise over $3,000 for Family Pathways food shelf. It was so encouraging seeing you go above and beyond our initial goal. There are also so many members who are constantly serving in various ways through-out the week or at different times during the year. For me, this is resurrection living… understanding how much God has done for us and our call as disciples to be a blessing to others. You all are a blessing to me and I thank you for that. God Bless, Pastor Jon
We are on a local mission!
The Outreach Committee is working through the local schools to provide a program for school-age summer lunches. This Trinity Lunch Club, “TLC”, will distribute pre-bagged lunches once a week for 13 weeks. Surveys of need and interest are being sent via school fliers and email. Connie Deminsky and Donna Setter are leading the project. If you are interested in serving on the team, please contact us at
[email protected]. More updates to follow!
May 26 through
September 1

the youth in their various summer missions. Shout out to all of the youth who served and the
parents who were here as the sun rose to begin preparations for the breakfast. You are all appreciated and
loved! Looking ahead, EDGE will wrap up the school year…sometime in May, with the annual bonfire. The date is still being determined due to athletic & activity schedules. Stay tuned for more info

Sunday School News Happy Spring!! As this is being typed, the spring rains are bringing color to the lawns and buds to the trees. There is so much hope in this season and hopefully you all will make time to play outside as a family and look for the
wonderful signs of renewal. On April 14th, The Sunday School children did a fabulous job sharing the message of Palm Sunday with their singing voices. Thank you to all of them and the direction of Sarah Krosschell for that special treat!
We are wrapping up the school year and have just 2 Sundays in May left. These busy days may have us drifting from our lessons a bit, but that is okay. Sometimes the best lessons come from simple conversations. The greatest gift this year has been
the interactions between the children and between the children and the teachers. There have been so many great questions and youthful insights about God’s love this year and it is VERY exciting!
Registration forms are out for Summer in the Son VBS and we have an exciting new program planned for this year, It is called “Wild Wonder Creation Care Camp” and we will explore ways we can enjoy and care for God’s amazing creation! There will be no cost once again this year as we still have funds available from last year’s generous donation. Be sure to save the dates; June 12,19,26 and July 3.
Upcoming Dates to know: May 5: Sunday School from 9-9:45 Regular schedule May 12: LAST DAY: Sunday School from 9-9:45 large group activity outside & upstairs

Looking back just a short time, Lent (with our very successful Friday Fish Fry events) is behind us once again. I want to add my thanks to Pastor Jon and Deb for the extra Lenten service at 11 AM each week. I sincerely hope you experienced all the emotions of Holy Week, starting with the music of Palm Sunday and moving through scheduled services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday, where we once again celebrated Jesus’ overcoming the cross, death and the grave.
If you were in attendance at Trinity for Palm Sunday you might’ve felt a certain level of musical anticipation with upwards of 40 musicians gathered in the choir pit. I think the buzz of excitement was still evident after the service, which is a wonderful measure. The Sunday School kids were a bonus at the second service! Thank you to Deb and Tyler and all those musicians who shared their gifts at that service.
It’s always wonderful to experience the joy of Easter, and especially fun to see and feel and hear what an expanded church attendance can do for the soul. I’ve often wondered what that feeling would be like if we experienced the same attendance throughout the church calendar.
From a Council perspective, we are all thankful that stewardship remains on track (as do the Phoenix Academy lease payments) as we deal with some unplanned (roof leaks) and what I would call deferred building maintenance issues (HVAC and plumbing repairs). I am hopeful that all of you believe we should make good decisions when dealing with church property. We are also able to move forward confidently with structured interviews for our Director of Youth and Family Ministries and Cemetery Maintenance positions. And speaking of giving, I know Pastor Jon felt very good about presenting Family Pathways a check of $3,002 on behalf of the newly formed Outreach Team! Staying current with pledges and planned giving helps the Council make good decisions. Thank you!
It won’t be long and we will be going to one summer service at 9:00 AM. The Council is hopeful this coming together of 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM services will help our congregation continue to get to know each other better. Make a point of taking some time for fellowship!
See you in church. Mike Nelson, 2019 TLC Council Chair

Join Us… Sunday Morning Bible Study Starting April 28th at 9:05 am Fireside Room
1 John is a book of comfort and challenge. It comforts us with the
reminder that we are children of God. It challenges us to make our faith
genuine by expressing in our lives what we believe in our hearts.
Participants will explore this important book by examining four key
questions. You may drop-in at any time during these sessions.
This 4-session Bible study explores selected passages from 1 John.
4/28: Who is Jesus—really? (1 John 1:1—2:2)
5/5: Who are we—really? (1 John 2:29—3:24)
5/12: How can we love—really? (1 John 4:1-21)
5/19: How can we live—really? (1 John 5:1-13)

There are so many people who give generously of their time and talent to the ministry of
Trinity Lutheran Church. Each month in the Tidings we will have a Trinity “Shout Out!” naming
and thanking various groups and individuals who give of themselves in a variety of ways. Some
do their work totally “behind the scenes,” while others you see all the time sharing their gifts but
may not know them by name.
Do you ever wonder how the sanctuary gets decorated for Christmas and Easter and other
seasons of the church year? We are blessed to have a group of people who generously share of
their time and talent to do this.
Lori Peterson brings her creative and artistic talents as she takes the lead on our sanctuary arts team. Sue Swenson, Candi &
Tom Hals, Karen Nelson, Darlene Nelson and Jeff Peterson have ably assisted Lori in placing flowers, decorating trees and doing
whatever is needed to bring each church season to life. Roger Anderson and Dave Nelson, our custodians, always make sure
that the “heavy lifting” is done and items that need to be hung in the “higher reaches” of the sanctuary are taken care of before
the sanctuary arts team does their work. They also make sure everything is out and ready to decorate and then assist in the
clean up afterward. Darrel Fisk and Dennis Aulich are our official “angel hangers.” They make sure the Christmas angels are
hung and all the lights are working on them. They also are responsible for taking them down after Christmas.
Next time you see one of these “sanctuary decorators,” say “Thanks!” (Another great way to show your appreciation is to join
them! Contact Lori Peterson or Deb Aulich and we’ll contact you the next time decorating needs to be done!)
Watch for the next Trinity “Shout Out!” coming your way in the June Tidings!
Recycling Fundraiser We will be hosting our third annual
Recycling Fundraiser on May 11. Bring your items to the parking lot from 8am-2pm. Additional items not listed may also be
accepted. A portion of the fee is returned to Trinity.

Realizing How Much God Loves You Luke 15:11-32
How do you see God's love in your daily life? Jesus' parable of the prodigal is an example of the deep and profound love between a father and his son (and, God with God's people). This parable could also be named the parable of the prodigal father. It is the father who is a central character. The selfish and jealous behav-
ior of the two sons is a sharp contrast to the loving behavior of the father. Similarly, God's most basic character is love.
What experiences in life are brought to memory by this parable? Has there been a time in your life when you wanted to go off to a far country? It was not unusual for younger Jewish sons to venture into the Dispersion. Centuries later in colonial England, it was not unusual for younger sons to venture to the colonies to start their life. And in our own country, it was not unusual for younger sons to respond to the challenge, "Go west, young man."
These ventures were often undertaken because there was sense of love and security at home, and a loving relationship with God. The life of Jesus was a venture to live in a "new creation", a "new age". It was difficult for the disciples to leave their settings and follow Jesus. It was even more difficult to grasp the significance of Jesus' teachings. Yet as their experiences evolved there were revelations that showed God's love and presence in every day life.
The older son struggled to see the loving relationship with his father and brother upon the brother's return. Yet the father's love was free, unmerited and unconditional to both sons. It is this kind of love that God has for God's people.
Prayer: Lord God, you are a loving Creator and Provider. Help us to see your presence in our daily life, in the gift of life, in the gift of your Son Jesus Christ and in the Body of Christ. Give us the vision to look beyond our personal desires and needs. Give us the sensitivity to hear your word above our daily activity. Open our eyes too, to the times when we are like the older son, looking for the best robe and the fatted calf, only wanting for ourselves. May the Holy Spirit give us guidance to see your loving presence and will in our life. Amen.

Do you have extra plastic grocery bags? We have a group that will put them to good use by
turning them into sleeping mats for the homeless. We have found that the thinner bags
(Wal Mart, County Market type bags) are best for this project. Thicker bags (Target type
bags) don’t work for crocheting. Drop off any extras in the church office! To help out, join
them from 1-3pm on Tuesday, May 21 in our Genesis Room. No experience necessary!
On behalf of the students here at Sunrise, I would like to thank your church community for the Blessing Bags you sent over for students. So many wonderful and needed items for children facing unexpected transitions or change. Thank you for the generous donation of items. They will be put to good use. Jennifer at Sunrise Elementary
I wanted to thank you on behalf of A Place For You Homeless Shelter in Pine City for the use of space for our board meeting and Open House. It was nice to hold a meeting in the area we serve, and to meet some of your members. A Place For You
REFRESH...AGAIN!!! :)
The six women who were blessed to make the journey to the Refresh retreat
in Wisconsin this March would like to keep the spirit of that weekend going.
It was a weekend filled with God’s love for us, our encouragement of each
other, and lots of fun and laughter. In the spirit of that weekend, we’ve
decided to create events (hopefully monthly!) called “Refresh Again.” Our
hope is for this to be a multigenerational meetup of the ladies of Trinity
where we can grow closer to each other and closer to God. The events will
feature some type of devotional activity, as well as an activity that will allow us to laugh, have fun, and get to know one
another better.
Our first “Refresh Again” event will be held on Monday, May 13, at 6:30 pm in the Genesis room. The ladies that
attended the retreat will be sharing a little bit about what they took away from the event, as well as sharing an activity
that was meaningful from the retreat. Snacks will be provided. This first event will be a chance to get to know each other
and visit. Come when you can, leave when you must! If you have questions, you can email Sarah Krosschell at
A New Member Brunch and Installation will be held in June. Please contact Pastor Jon or Julie at 651-674-7047 or [email protected] with questions or to become a member of the Trinity family!
