Joke of the Week

The Issue: A Wyoming college student was ar-rested on charges of shoplifting. The Excuse: It was a homework assignment—she was researching a term paper on kleptomania.

Saint of the Week Caryll Houselander

Mystic (1901-1954) Caryll Houselander, an English laywoman, had a definite sense of her vocation: to awaken others to the presence of Christ in the world. This conviction was implanted from her childhood by a series of mystical experiences that continued throughout her life. The most striking of these visions occurred as an adult, while she stood on a crowded underground train in London. As she looked at the people around her, “quite suddenly I saw with my mind, but as viv-idly as a wonderful picture, Christ in them all . . .. living in them, dying in them, rejoicing in them, sor-rowing in them.” When she left the train “it was the same...in every passerby, everywhere —- Christ. This vision lasted for several days and altered her life completely. Huselander supported herself by woodcarving and decorating churches. Later she wrote poetry and children’s books. Her true mission, however, consisted in her relationships with others - not just friends, but strangers, neurotics, friendless people whom others avoided. Simply through attention and friendship, she sought to awaken them to a sense of their own divine spark. Eventually her writing mis-sion took over. During the Second World War she offered a message of consolation to those strug-gling with their faith, sharing the good news that Christ was truly present in the sufferings of the world. She died of breast cancer on October 12, 1954. “It is part of God’s plan for us that Christ shall come to us in everyone; it is in their particular role that we must learn to know Him. He may come as a little child, making enormous demands, giving enormous consolation. He may come as a stranger, so that we must give the hospitality to a stranger that we should like to give to Christ.” —Caryll Houselander

FAITH AND FAMILY Whether you are a family of one or more members, you can participate in St. Anthony’s Adult Faith Group. The first, second, and fourth Sundays -- after our 10 am mass -- we meet in the cafeteria for one hour and 45 min-utes. Your participation is vital and welcomed. Living life has brought with it vast experiences that allows each of us the opportunity to share with others what we have learned or what we need to learn more of Together we can bring into focus as Catholic Christians how we learn to come closer to our Lord and uphold one another in His name. We only need to look around our communities today to see the turmoil that blasts away at our family founda-tion. The questions we have...with no answers nor time to find what to do as Catholic families. We can help one another while weathering the storms in a spiritual and practical way. Please join us and learn more about our Catholic faith. Let’s stand together supporting one another with the love our Lord has given us. Together we can find peace in the midst of our turmoil and receive more strength in times of temptation, difficul-ties and heavy crosses. Your presence will help us help one another. Bob & Judy Hawkins [email protected] 636-575-1368 Thank you and God bless our families.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. This program is designed for children ages three through nine. Children’s Liturgy of the Word brings the Gospel to the children in an enlightening and meaningful way and at their level of understanding. Through appropriately adapted Scripture texts, music, prayer, and activities that reinforce the Gospel message, the children have an opportunity to celebrate their faith in a way that is joyful and relevant to their own young lives. The children are es-corted out of mass by the program catechists after the Opening Prayer and return to mass at Offertory. For more information, contact Kathy Joslin at [email protected] or call 636-677-4868 ext. 118 or 636-677-1567.
