FAMILY FAITH MOMENTS
Although St. Bartholomew was one of the 12
apostles of Jesus, little is known about him. In the
Acts of the Apostles, he is mentioned as waiting
with the others disciples for the coming of the Holy
Spirit. Bartholomew is also called Nathanael in
John’s Gospel. As an apostle, Bartholomew was
sent to bring the Good News of Jesus to others. He
became a missionary in Armenia and India.
Celebrating the feast days of the saints at home.
While a disciple is a student, one who learns from a
teacher, an apostle is sent to deliver those
teachings to others. How can you answer the call
to be a disciple and learn from Jesus? How can
you be an apostle and spread the Good News of
Jesus to others?
CALLED to do MORE
Are You Being Called to Do More? Have you ever
thought that you would like to do more to practice
your faith? Are you willing to actually get involved
in living the Corporal and Spiritual works of Mercy?
Volunteers are needed for a Reading and
Companionship Ministry. All that is required is a
commitment of one hour a week. Take the time to
visit with and read to our elder brothers and sisters
at one of the assisted living facilities here in Huber
Heights. If you think you might be interested and/
or need more information, please call Deacon
Bob Gutendorf at 776-7179.
PEACE in your FAMILY
Would you like to have peace in your family? To
become more fervent in your faith? Have blessings
on all your undertakings? Then you need to have
your home Enthroned to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
These are just some of the promises that He made
to St. Margaret Mary to those who honor Him. For
additional information or to have your home
enthroned, please contact Deacon Bob
Gutendorf at 776-7179 or the Parish Administration
Office at 233-1503.
POPE’S UNIVERSAL INTENTION
for AUGUST
Families, Schools of Human Growth. That
families, through their life of prayer and
love, become ever more clearly “schools
of true human growth.”
ST. PETER FOOD PANTRY
The August items of need for the St. Peter Food Pantry are canned vegetables and meat (ham, chicken, or tuna). Donated nonperishable food items can be placed in the donation box located in the back of the church, dropped off Monday through Friday at the Parish Administration Office from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, or on Saturday at the Food Pantry between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon. Please make sure the food items are in original, unopened packages with good expiration dates. The Food Pantry cannot accept expired foods, bulk food products, open packages or home canned/baked items.
On behalf of Meijer, the St. Peter Food Pantry has been selected to take part in the 2019 Fall Simply Give Campaign now through Saturday, September 28. Meijer has added extra Friday Double Match Days (August 30 and September 13) and lengthened the campaign up to two weeks. The focus is on the highly-popular Double Match Days, all other days within the campaign will be unmatched by Meijer. The increased length of each campaign will provide more opportunity for customers to purchase Simply Give cards during each campaign. Simply Give donation cards will be located at each church entrance, the Parish Administration Office, and at the Meijer Store check-out counters located on Executive Boulevard. Just present the card at the Huber Heights Meijer checkout, no grocery purchase necessary, with your donation.

SHEPHERDS of CHRIST

Let us consecrate our hearts as we prepare for the Great Era of Peace our Lady of Fatima promised. We pray each Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the St. Peter Chapel, in the midst of Our Lord’s presence in the tabernacle. There are no dues, just great rewards!

ST. PETER SCHOOL Principal Ron Albino
I hope all our students, families, and parishioners
enjoyed a wonderful summer;
and I hope the students are relaxed, recharged and ready
to start a new school year.
I am delighted that you are
part of our amazing Catholic learning
community. I welcome and value your
positive energy and dedication to excellence in education and our Catholic faith, and
I look forward to working with all our
students and parents.
All signs point to another incredible and
productive school year. Our skilled and
dedicated staff is already planning and preparing for our students. Our enthusiastic
office team is registering new families, ordering
needed materials, and updating student files.
Our hard working and conscientious custodians
have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. And, our much-appreciated
PTO is gearing up to welcome families, provide
volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting
events and programs. We are indeed a joyous
and caring Catholic community with common
goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.
I am so proud to inform that our IOWA
Assessments that measures Academic
Proficiency at the national percentile rank
ranges for Reading are above the 65% against
the nation (50%). Our students ranked at the 66.4% in Mathematics, 82.9% in Science and
finally 77.8% in Social Studies. Ranked against
the nation these are outstanding scores;
100% of our 8th Grade students who tested
scored proficient, advanced or accelerated on
the state Algebra 1 test automatically earning high school credits.
Each year brings positive change. This includes
a few additions to our staff. We are delighted to
welcome Jennifer Johnson as our new clinician,
Kathy West as a Title 1 representative, and
Julie Koepp as a new IS working alongside Ben Dorn. We are absolutely delighted to have
Sue DeTore (from the Early Childhood Center)
joining Kathy Moorman in the front office.
And if you visited St. Peter Parish over the
summer, you may have noticed numerous
maintenance and construction projects. The playground has been replaced and updated,
the parking lot has been resurfaced all around,
and air conditioners have been fixed or replaced.

SPIRITUAL BOOK CLUB
All are welcome to join this year’s Spiritual Book Club
at St. Peter Parish. The group meets the last Monday
of each month (August to November) from 7:00 to
8:30 pm in the St. Peter School Classroom 118 (enter
through Door #17). This year’s book, Edith Stein: A
Biography by Waltraud Herbstrith, is the untold story
of the philosopher, Carmelite nun, and mystic who
lost her life in the death camps of Auschwitz.
Edith Stein is one of the most significant women
Germany has produced. All over
the world, men and women of
every profession and religious
persuasion have recognized in
her life — as a Jew, Christian,
scholar, professional woman and
f i n a l l y , a s a v ic t i m o f
totalitarianism — the marks of a
follower of Jesus. A prayerful
woman of deep spirituality and
authentic mystical experience, Edith Stein remained
an influential, active philosopher all her life.
For more information and to obtain a book (for a
nominal fee), please call the Office of Religious
Education and Formation at 237-3516.

Nancy MacMillan 859-443-2073 | [email protected]
Nancy MacMillan from LPi, the St. Peter Church bulletin printer, will be working on advertisements; and Nancy will be in the Parish Administration Office the week of August 26. Please consider purchasing an ad to promote your business. Your participation makes our bulletin successful, you attract customers and your support for the church is so appreciated! Please call or email Nancy!
The Bethlehem Christian Families will be selling olive wood carvings and religious items after all Masses at St. Peter Church, this weekend, August 17 and 18, to support the Christians in the Holy Land. The goals of Bethlehem Christian Families is to improve the economic condition of the Christian communities in the Holy Land, which has been acutely affected by a drastic drop in sales. Sales have diminished as pilgrims and tourists avoid the instability in the middle east region and there is an absence of a strong export market. Unemployed, skilled craftsmen are leaving their profession. We encourage families to remain in the Holy Land by alleviating their economic plight through job development. We are revitalizing this traditional art industry, which is slowly disappearing, by creating job opportunities for craftsmen and encouraging apprenticeship. Please visit bcfmission.com for details.
Stroke Scan Plus will be at St. Peter Parish on Thursday, August 29, in the Family Life Center from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm to provide life-saving, wellness ultrasound screenings. It is important to perform preventive maintenance for ourselves yearly. Do you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease, stroke, abdominal aneurysm or internal cancers? If so, do not miss this opportunity for early detection of a possibly serious disease. These screenings are typically NOT performed at your annual check-up, and insurance companies may not pay for them unless you are symptomatic. Diagnostic versions of these screenings cost thousands of dollars in a hospital. Stroke Scan Plus will be offering them to you for $159 for all seven combined ultrasound screenings (Stroke, AAA, AFIB & organs). Insurance is NOT necessary and appointments are limited. Stroke Scan will take registrations at St. Peter Parish on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25, or please call (832) 437-7355 or toll free (866) 935-7226 to schedule an appointment; visit strokescan.com for more details.
