On the Sundays in October, you can give a financial love gift to Pastor Scott and

Michael to express your appreciation for their ministry. Just mark it as such on

your envelope or check memo. Maybe you can think of other creative ways to

show your gratitude. As always, one great way to thank them is to tell them

and to pray for them and their family.

From the Richardsons

Hi Folks,

Please accept our apology for not keeping in touch these past couple months. We've been very busy here in Kansas, working every daylight hour on the house that Joanna and Ellie are living in. We've had time with family and with the church families here in the area all sum-mer. We made one trip to Iowa and to our mission base in North Carolina; otherwise we've stayed here in Winfield. We have made good progress on the headache problem, although it isn't resolved completely yet.

And now we have tickets to return to Kenya October 1 as a family of 4! Joanna and Ellie will be here in Winfield, living right next to Warner and Grace. Daniel and Hannah are also close by, so the girls have all kinds of help if they need it. We still have a lot to do in the few days before we leave, but thought a short note would be good to let you all know what we are doing and what you can be praying for.

There are changes coming up for our family's ministry in Kenya; once I've had time to sit with the guys in Ngurunit to talk and plan I'll keep you all updated. We'd appreciate your pray-ers for those discussions and changes as well as for safety in travel and provision as we arrive in Ngurunit with needs and obligations.

Thank you all for your faithful partnership with us in the cause of the gospel.

Tom, Karen and family

October Quarterly Church Business Meeting

On Sunday, October 26, we will have our Quarterly Church Business meeting in the sanctuary at 12:45p.m.

That will be preceded by an all-church fellowship dinner at 11:45pm in our Family Life Center.

Please bring a main dish and a side dish or dessert to share.

At our church business meeting, we will review our Sunday evening “The Gathering” ser-

vice, and, talk about our “Love Winfield” service project day coming up on Sunday, November

2 and about other important matters. So, be sure to join us for this important gathering. Our meeting will

begin with sharing prayer requests and a prayer gathering.

Reaching Out with God’s Love to LOVE WINFIELD! - Nov. 2

On Sunday, November 2, we will have our worship service with commun-ion, then we will be going out into our community to share and show God’s love, by prayer and various service projects through the afternoon. Sign-up sheets will be coming in the foyer for different ways you can be involved in being the hands and feet of Jesus to our community. There will be opportunities for you to be on teams to help do clean up and repair in our community in various ways, or stay back at our facility to pray. Times and details will be forthcoming.

Plan to Vote on Tuesday, November 4

Secular extremists have used the phrase “separation of church and state” for many years in seeking to di-minish religious liberty in America, as well as reducing Christian symbols and expressions of Biblical belief in our culture. The phrase “separation of church and state” cannot be found anywhere in the U. S. Con-stitution. In fact, the First Amendment was written not to impair Ameri-cans in their rights to freely express their religious beliefs, but to keep the government from preventing them from doing so. But, through activist judges, that original intent is being turned on its head. If Christians do not vote in people who hold our religious liberties as dear, they will con-tinue to diminish and be infringed upon even more. So, get to know the candidates and where they stand on Biblical and moral issues, as well as on religious liberty. Our own Larry Alley is running for office as a state legislator. Please be in prayer for Larry and his campaign. Then, please plan to vote on Tuesday, November 4. Make sure you are regis-tered to vote. If you need a ride to register to vote or to go to the polls, please call our church.

Annual All Church Thanksgiving Meal—Nov. 23 On Sunday, November 23 at 12:00 noon after our worship service, you are encouraged to

come for our annual all church Thanksgiving Dinner, or maybe better said, our Thanksgiving Feast! Our church will provide turkey and all the trimmings, with mashed potatoes and dressing. You are encouraged to bring a side dish and dessert to share. We will take time to share what we are thankful to God for, and sing together “Count your Blessings.” You won’t want to miss this! If you would like to help with food and kitchen preparation, please contact Debbie Love, note your wanting to help on your bulletin tear-off on Sunday or call the church office.

Also, at the worship service on Nov. 23, we will share cardboard testimonies. You will need a good size piece of cardboard to share on one side what your problem or need was, and then on the flip side share how God changed you or met your need.

PowerSource STUDENT MINISTRY

Hello and welcome to my first newsletter. The first few weeks back to PowerSource youth group have been fun and exciting. Learn-ing all about how to get a youth group night put together has been a

wonderful treat for me as an intern. We have a few plans for events that will be happening soon. We have a small group being led by Drew Chrisman on Wednesdays. We have started a student led prayer session at school spear-headed by Spencer Meyers, meeting every other Thurs-day before school at 7:00am in the middle of the gym, to pray. Youth group itself is going well. Having Chris Law as a leader is a great thing for us right now. We are work-ing on getting some more leaders, but also to get at least one female leader for the girls. There is also a possibility

of a small group for girls led by Mrs. Meyer on purity. It is still being de-cided on what day it would be. Pastor Scott is leading the youth Sun-day School on the core doctrines of the faith, helping us be more

grounded in the word.

What’s Going on?

Strong leaders...Strong youth group Author: Ken MoserDate: 04 Feb 2013

Well, it was Superbowl weekend…. I’m sure you were transfixed to the tube on Sunday as the two teams battled it out. That is, unless you do not care about football U.S.A. style or, your Arizona Cardinals suffered such a heartbreaking loss a few years back that you couldn’t bring yourself to watch it yet…. One thing that is obvious to even the most casual NFL fan is that a good quarterback makes the team. Good QB, good team. Lousy QB, you probably will end up with a losing record and will try to draft a good one out of college. In youth ministry you stand or fall with your leadership team. With a good team you have a much better shot at building a solid, strong (and probably a growing) youth ministry. So, the question begs, “How do we develop a good leadership team?” Let’s go through some big picture thoughts…and I hope to narrow it down for you in some future posts.

Leadership Development Big Picture Thought #1: Make it your goal from day one

This is not something that you stumble upon or decided to do in the future. It must start from day one. Now, this does not mean that you will have a strong team from day one, it simply means that you will begin to plan to build a team from the outset of your ministry.

What this means for you practically:

You will keep a sharp eye out for any godly, strong, able and time rich:

adults...university students...young workers (who didn’t go to university)...grade 11 or twelve youth...retired people who are ministry minded and time rich

Your goal is to not have a rotating set of volunteers who merely cook or provide transportation (although there is a place for this type of volunteer). You want Christian disciplers and role models.

Leadership Development Big Picture Thought #2: They must be on the same page as yourself

If you are a quarterback who wants to run the West Coast Offense (if you follow me…if not, just act like you understand) you need teammates who understand what you are trying to do and will support you. If you have teammates who do not support you…you will lose. It is very difficult to work with a team who does not want to follow you.

What this means for you practically:

You will seek to develop a base of volunteers leaders who understand what you are trying to do and will be skilled in supporting and carrying out your vision. This means you may need to be patient and work to build this team. It may take a year or three.

One thing to note:

While what I have just written is really pretty straightforward, it is very difficult to do. It takes time, prayer, training, and lots of Bible study with your future leaders.

So, with this in mind, begin now. Find a group of people (youth?) that you think can help you out in a year or two and begin a small group Bible study. Or, join a young adults group that you think has some potential youth leaders. You could even join or lead a home group of adults. Get to know them, if you are the leader, teach the Bible to this group. I would suggest you take the group through Paul’s letters where the gospel is clearly explained and how we are to live in light of it. Discover together what it means to be a disciple and to carry the cross as you do a study from the Gospel of Luke. Take a few months and go through 2 Timothy together to discover what it means to be a leader.

As you do this, you will fire up some people to help you take your first steps towards a strong youth min-istry.

Current Adult Bible Fellowships-9:15am

Sanctuary Adult Bible Fellowship

Join us in the sanctuary as we continue a DVD study from Answers in Genesis called “The Founda-tions”. This DVD study features Ken Hamm, founder of Answers in Genesis, affirming the authority of God’s Word and shares how to stand and defend it with confidence and boldness. In his convicting yet often humorous style, Hamm addresses urgent concerns in society and reveals what must be done to reach today’s culture for Christ. Show-ing how crucial the first 11 books of Genesis are, Ken opens a new world of understanding, and offers solutions for those that are challenged by today’s secular reasoning. This class will run through October and will be facilitated by Gregg Little. Beginning in November, Keith Dailey will lead the 6 session study The Testing of your Faith by Dr. Bruce

H. Wilkinson. The Testing of Your Faith will teach you the biblical truths about what happens when God sends a test

of faith into your life, and how to stand firm and allow God to bless you through these tests when they come. Come

and be encouraged in your faith, and learn from the insights of fellow believers!

‘Master God's Book’ Adult Bible Fellowship

In progress, the Master God’s Book Adult Bible Fellowship is studying the books

of Philippians and Colossians. Paul, in his letters to the Philippians and

Colossians, wrote some of his most enduring statements about faith and hope and

shared his most penetrating insights about the divine nature of Christ. Taken

together, these two letters provide believers in Christ with timely encourage-

ment and godly wisdom. Indeed, the sacred truths revealed in these letters

come from the heart and mind of a man who had learned God’s truths through many

years of sacrificial service to Christ. Join us in the conference room for

this engaging study led by Pat Potter.

Women’s ‘Last Sunday of the Month’ Bible Fellowship

The women's Bible study is exploring what it means to be "Living in the Life of Eternity". In our first session we discussed questions such as, "in spite of my past, or worldly influences such as advertising, how can I remind myself that life is really about living for the Lord, and not myself? During our sessions we will expound on:

1. How to discover your identity and purpose through your relationship with Jesus.

2. How to embrace the fact that God was thinking of you long before you even thought about

Him. His purpose for our lives (without our input) predates our conception.

3. How to understand that the purpose of our lives fits into a much larger design for eternity.

Join us once each month for our wonderful women's connection class in the FLC led by Yvonne Marcotte.

Men’s ‘Last Sunday of the Month’ Bible Fellowship

The men's study this year is "33-The Series...A Man and His Design". This DVD series is from the Authentic Manhood ministry, and will be facilitated by Terril Met-tling, Keith Daily, and Gregg Little in the sanctuary. "33-The Series” is a multi-volume series that is part of the Authentic Manhood movement. This study contains ses-sions that explore the basic foundations of Authentic Manhood and God's clear design for men. Each man will learn the four "faces" of manhood and how to anticipate and transition through the specific seasons of life. The September session has passed, but we encourage you to make plans to attend next month as we study about God's plan and design for men together!
