Pastor Notes I t is with sadness that I must announce the resignation of Mrs.
Joanne LoPresti, who serves as principal of Assumption Academy. She writes, “It has been my honor to serve as your principal. Your children are extremely special to me and I smile brightly every time I think of them. Thank you for your patience, dedication and commitment you have shown me over the past two years. Above all, thank you for entrusting me with your children’s education and well being.” We express our prayerful best wishes for Mrs. LoPresti’s future endeavors and will miss the strides she made in making our academy more visible to the community and for initiating the STREAM program in our academy’s course of studies. It being just a few more weeks before school begins, we found a successor to Mrs. LoPresti in the person of Mr. William DeBacco. Mr. DeBacco comes from St. Paul School in Akron. He comes with much experience in the field of Catholic Education and is eager to embrace the challenges our academy faces at this point in its history. Please welcome him to our Assumption community. We wish Mr. DeBacco well as he works to move our academy forward towards the future. I would like to express my thanks to the Altar & Rosary Society for re-plating the communion paten we use at Sunday Mass. Over the ten plus years it became shabby and a bit misshapen. Now it looks as good as new. May God bless the Altar & Rosary for their generosity. Next week is A ssumption’s Parish Picnic. I look forward to seeing you there. It promises to be a wonderful weekend. But the most wonderful part of this weekend is you participation.
See you there!!
R C A (RCIA) The Assumption RCIA team will be starting in September 2018. If you are interested in becom-ing a Catholic, or know someone that may be inter-
ested please call the rectory. RCIA is a process for baptized persons and unbaptized per-sons to prepare them to enter the Catholic Faith. These indi-viduals will be brought into the Catholic Church at the Saturday Easter Vigil 2019. If you have any questions, or would like to register please con-tact Deacon Streeter at the rectory440-526-1177 ext. 228 Thank You
A S S C Once again, we are collecting basic school supply items for distribution at the Thea Bowman Center and for our children in Haiti. Bins will be in the back of the church through Labor Day weekend. Basic items such as pens, rulers, solar calculators, maps, folders, glue sticks, paper, colored pencils, notebooks, and quadrille type composition books may be placed in bins in back of church.
Soccer balls, ball pumps, and jump ropes are real treasurers. Your thoughtful donation is always appreciated!! Many bless-ings. Members of Hands and Hearts with Haiti and Human Care Committees.

1. When has God given me something that I later grumbled about?
2. What aspect of my former way of life do I need to put away? 3. In what ways do we “become” the Body and Blood of Christ
for others? 4. I satisfy my spiritual hunger through …? 5. To which do I give more attention: “food that perishes” or
“the food that endures for eternal life”?

Lord Hear Our Prayers For the following parishioners, family members or friends that are ill.
A C Each week, we have 168 hours to spend in our life, Why not spend one with Him in silence and appreciation for His dying for us and countless additional favors He’s done for us? Where else can one sit in silence enjoying the private presence of Christ in peace, pleasure, and personal prayer? For more information on Eucharistic Adoration please contact Marcia Kaiser at 440-503-5593. Our Lord hears our prayers everywhere, but He has revealed to His servants that those who visit Him in the Eucharist will ob-
tain a more abundant measure of grace – St. Alphonsus Ligouri
Buy your tickets early and $ave!!
Tickets will be on sale at the back of
the church this weekend.

D ’ C “I…, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have
received…” Ephesians 4: 1 Today begins a five-week encounter with Chapter 6 of John’s Gospel and its Bread of Life discourse. Every Gospel recounts the miraculous feeding of the five thousand, but John’s Gospel lingers over this event, giving us time to go deeper into its mean-ing. Each Gospel presents this event with its own unique details. Philip and Andrew play a special role in John’s account. Each looks at the same situation, but their focus differs. Philip sees the immensity of the crowd and the impossibility of feeding so many, but Andrew spies a boy with five barley loaves and two fish, and senses another possibility.
So much depends on where you direct your gaze. In our readings it is interesting to note that the bread is made from barley, the grain used by the poor. God uses something common to do great things. As good stewards we are called to believe in Jesus’ power to multiply, but in that belief is our opportunity and challenge to imitate Jesus the Giver by being givers ourselves; when Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes, God provided not just enough, but overflowing abundance. Jesus is the sign of God’s abundance. In the Eucharist Christ gives Himself as food totally and completely. If God feeds us beyond all our expecta-tions, then we in turn must feed others too. Feeding people as they come to our parish creates an atmosphere of welcome. Feed-ing the poor stops the worrying about where their next meal will come from. Feeding the immigrant or marginalized gives pur-pose. Feeding those in the crisis of natural disaster keeps them alive. Feeding those experiencing great loss gives them comfort. Feeding those with questions and doubts gives them hope. So are you a Philip or an Andrew? Where is your gaze? Do you see problems or possibilities?
Feeding people is God’s work, and it is our work, too.

R E Mrs. Barbara Tomusko, Directory of Religious Education August – dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary What is an Immaculate Heart? It can be described as being pure or flawless, or as Kierkegaard defined as ‘holiness,’ and ‘desiring only the Will of God.’ This describes Mary perfectly, from the time we meet her in Scripture in the encounter with Gabriel, to her sorrowful presence at the foot of the Cross. Mary strove for holiness in her thoughts and in her actions throughout her life, and she strives to lead us to holiness as well – this is God’s Will for us (2 Peter 3:9). We strive for holiness by fol-lowing her example of contemplation, and choosing the path of holiness in each moment through justice, mercy, and humility (Micah 6:8). Set aside some time for contemplation each day this month to honor Mary, and to seek her assistance in creating a pure heart. A good article about the Immaculate Heart of Mary here: http://catholic.net/op/articles/4797/what-does-it-mean-to-have-an-immaculate-heart.html Our Sunday Visitor explains the teachings of the Church about Mary www.osv.com/OSVNewsweekly/Story/TabId/2672/ArtMID/13567/ArticleID/17405/11-questions-answered-about-Mary.aspx PSR Registration Forms can be found on the par ish website: www.coabvm.org. PSR begins September 10 this year for Grades 1 to 8. Please remember - Sacramental Prep is a two year process. First Communion prep begins in Grade 1. Confirma-tion Prep begins in Grade 7. Pre K PSR begins October 7 for children age 4-5. Calling all Catholics! Many here at Assumption have been given the Gift to share Christ with others. Are you one of them? The Office of Religious Education has openings for Catechists for our Sunday Children’s Liturgy of the Word Ministry and for substitute teachers for our PSR Programs on Monday Nights during the school year. If you love your faith and feel called to share Jesus with the new generation of believers, please call us at 440-526-6690 and put God’s Gift to good use! This can be a great outlet for retired teachers, grandparents and parents whose children are grown. Consider joining us in the joyful work of sharing God’s love!
See you at the picnic!
