Believe...with Father Steve
Happy New Year! I can't believe it is 2018. When I was a kid I thought by this time we would
have flying cars and robots in playing major-league baseball. The older I grow and assuming I
grow wiser, I realize the more things change the more they stay the same.
Although the world has changed mightily since we were kids it is still the same through and
through. We live we work we have families and the Lord calls us home. That is the story of life
since the beginning of time. There are many ups and downs throughout our lives; moments of
joy and moments of sorrow, but the two constants we always seem to have are our families and
God.
Over these last many months, I have called you my family. I have walked with you in many
journeys burying your husbands and wives; your mothers and fathers; baptizing your children; and marrying your
sons and daughters. There have been ups and downs just in my 18 months of serving you. You have been a joy to
walk with and a joy to serve. As I said when I made the announcement of my departure just before Christmas, I am
not unhappy here nor am I being forced out. This parish is an incredible place for a priest to be. I am not sure of what
the future holds, but I know that second constant--God--will always be present here in Carleton and Maybee and in
my individual life. God is good, and He will always provide.
I've been made a stronger and a greater priest because of you and your love for me. I know that this is hard on you
all--especially for our children--but the one thing I know for certain is that God will provide this parish with a
glorious future.
When I first came to Divine Grace I asked everyone to pray single Hail Mary for me. I ask that same thing now in
my departure--a single Hail Mary. Again know that I love you and know that I am praying for you. The quote below
is one that I love deeply:
The Hail Mary is blessed do that falls from heaven to make this so fruitful. It is a pure kiss of love that we give to the
V i r g i n M a r y … a n d i n r e t u r n s h e g i v e s t o u s . " S t . L o u i s d e M o n t f o r t
-What is next for the parish--
As of the writing of this bulletin article and printing of it we still do not know who will be taking over in the interim
of my absence. I have met with the Diocese about our needs as a parish and they will work hard to find us a priest to
serve here. We will communicate to everyone as best as possible when that time comes. The plan as it stands now is
that he would begin January 8th, meaning January 7th would be my last weekend here.
As for our capital campaign, regardless of me at the helm, or another priest, we are in desperate need of these
structural repairs. I beg everyone to be as generous as they possibly can so that we may continue to maintain the
integrity of our buildings and our grounds.
I don't know what the future holds right now for me. I may return here to serve I may not. It truly is up to God and
the Bishop. Pray for me and our community.
--Last words--
I met with the group of 7/8 grade boys and then the 8th grade girls. It was an opportunity for me to speak with
them about the struggles of the world and expectations for kids at that age. When we parted from our meeting I gave
them my "finals words of wisdom". For the boys I said to them "Be holy and model your hearts after Jesus" and for the
girls I said: "Be holy and know who the Father is!" For the parish as a whole I'd like to impart my final words as "Be
holy and seek to meet Jesus!"
In my time here, everything that I preached, taught and tried to live was about revealing the person of Jesus. Meet
Him. Hunger for Him. Seek Him. Find Him. Love Him. Knowing Jesus is the greatest gift one could ever have, and
offering Him to another is the greatest gift one can ever give. In hearing this we must ask ourselves ... "do I know
Jesus? Have I met Him?" If the answer is no, than we mustn't wait any longer. Seek Him. Find Him. Meet Him! He
longs for you and loves you deeply.
I love you. Do pray for me and be assured of my prayers for you.
In the Heart of Jesus and Mary,
Father Steve

Mission Statement: St. Patrick Catholic School provides a unique spiritual and educational environment which fosters a family community of Christians. Students are empowered to reach their full potential through a rigorous curriculum and enrichment activities. We live by our faith, apply knowledge, and commit to serve.
The Walk to Bethlehem was a beautiful success of wonder, praise, service, friends and fellowship. A huge thank you to all who helped make this a truly extraordinary event. There are many people to thank from the planners, set
construction, luminaries and lighting, maintenance, scene painting, costume organizers, actors, beautiful singers, animal wranglers, kid wranglers, food preparation and service, indoor activities, all the donations and of course
Fr. Steve's prayers came through with the perfect weather. This was a beautiful event because everyone helped, from our principal, teachers, students, parents, parish staff and wonderful parishioners and even total strangers sent live-
stock. Merry Christmas to all and to all a who came it was more than a good night,
Thank you and May God fill your New Year with Blessings
